Does anyone know at what time steam releases new games?

Can I start downloading it at midnight on the 10th (technically the 11th) ? or will it only be accessible on the day of the 11th?

I thinking about taking the 11th off, but I don't want to do that just to sit there and watch the game download all day :)

It's usually never straight at midnight, and midnight often varies across the world ;)

They most often have a countdown timer, and from my experience it is somewhere on the day of release from midnight to the next.

Depending on the game/publisher, Steam sometimes allows for pre-loading the content (in encrypted form) so it's mostly ready to go.

There are many write ups on various side quests, but I thought this was a fun read. It gives a good perspective on what I enjoy most in Skyrim.

I didn't even think I was that excited for this game (that is, I can't afford to spent the time on it so I'm trying to forget about it) until I had a dream I was buying it and playing, except I was in the game.. turns out my subconscious wants this bad

256mb of ram required on the consoles, 2048mb of ram required on the pc, and twice the amount of gpu memory at minimum!

And at recommended you have to have 4gb of ram, but it's okay to have a 32bit OS ;)

    I suspect requirements padding.

If they ship with 2x resolution or more textures over the consoles, then thats not unreasonable at all.

Looks like even my MSI gt683 might be able to handle it. Deus Ex had been chugging a little bit when played in native res (1080p).

Increasing texturesizes globally to twice the size would require 4 times the amount of memory, but that's besides the point.

It's minimum requirements, they're not going to force a higher texture setting on pc, they'll use the same as on the consoles or less, via a setting.

I dunno if it was mentioned in this thread, or if i was talking to someone in person. but apparently there was a speed run competition between the programmers and the testers, and one of the testers beat the game in 1h 9min. Since he played it so much and knew where all the main story line updates were.

But, if thats true... well, what happened to there is no scripted stuff in this game? its all random and what not? How do you know where the updates are if its random?

    I dunno. just a thought

No, one of the game's testers beat the game (presumably, main questline) in 2hrs and 16 minutes. The speed runs of Oblivion (and I believe Fallout 3) were done in about 1hr and 15 minutes.

Which makes Skyrim's main quest a fair bit longer than Oblivion's.

Also, I don't have any idea what you're talking about saying there's "no scripted stuff". Of course there's scripted stuff in the game. As far as I understand it the radiant story aspect of the game simply allows it to keep track of player activities and alter quest parameters appropriately - while adding a lot of other non scripted encounters in the game world (that you're not supposed to notice are being handled by radiant story).

I'm guessing the main quest itself is the most static while all the side-quests have more dynamic elements to them.

Who would want to speed run a game that is built to be explored? That's like going to Disney World and running from the front entrance to the back exit. You'll miss just about everything that's great about it. Although, one could play the other story lines after the MQ is complete and still get to experience the whole game, but you'll be much more advanced at the end of the story if you just step off the rails and explore.

It was for a competition between testers that had been playing the game for months.

Most speedrunners plays their games a ton of times before going at the speedrunning, they're expanding the worth of the game!

well, i was under the impression that all the dragons and stuff were suppose to be random? i dont mean no scripting at all. games wouldnt run without scripts. But, i was under the impression that one of hte main selling points was that randomness of the game. instead of going to specific places to have huge events, like dragons, happen, its in random spots.. I know castles and things have to be in specific spots. but ya.

A lot of dragon encounters WILL be unscripted events (as I understand it). To my knowledge there's no set number of how many dragons you might encounter during the game. And their actions are, presumably, largely unscripted while fighting them. Same with many other encounters. To reference an article I read some time ago, you may walk down a road and see a chariot being attacked by some bandits. You might die and then when reload and you walk down that same road, it may be a hunter chasing after a fox, or a conjurer practicing spells. Side quests may happen at different locations, or be given by a different person depending on your actions. You could do a quest, and then talk about that same quest with a friend who might realize "...wait, I did that same quest in a different dungeon." You may get quests more geared towards your playstyle, say a duel from a conjurer if you're playing an asskicking mage, etc.

...that being said, obviously a lot of the main quests have to be scripted to a good extent. How else are you going to effectively tell a story? I mean really, are you expecting to start the game, walk out and go "Holy shit! A completely random encounter with Alduin the world eater, the games primary antagonist and king of badassery among dragons! Totally going to beat the main story right here, right now."

    Just wouldn't make sense.

...as a disclaimer, that's all just what I've read. We also read a lot of cool stuff about the AI in Oblivion that was completely dumbed down and removed from the actual game. Though I'm really not expecting that to happen again.

    pretty much,

elderscrolls 2 was nearly fully random, but the main quest was the same at all time. A big thing about elderscrolls games, and especially this one is that you are supposed to live the world and experience it and its sidequests and happenings as the main quest progresses, so on your way to different main quest objectives you'll pop into random stuff and you'll set off to explore things, or you'll get your day lit up by a dragon.

I would even dare guess that the dragons will actually be optional, but a way to become stronger and help the world, and as such they can be fully random without affecting the main quest.

    edit: wow interactive posting:

I think bethesda wanted to be clear with skyrim to not overhype radiant story, so that people aren't mistaken to what it is, as that hype happened with oblivion and radiant ai, and as far as I understand it is a quest-editor and system for making quest-templates that the game can switch around certain elements in.
