That's interesting how people view Bethesda RPG stories. I see them more as one main linear story and multiple side linear stories. There's not much in the way of "choice and consequences" to it. They don't really have any effect on the main story itself, so they run parallel to the main story. You can take a break from the main quest to have an adventure with the various factions or NPC quests. So it's more like one broad line surrounded by shorter, thinner lines representing side stories. Actually, you could view it as a modular story where you splice in parts of the side stories into the main story. This increases the length of the story and when the main story is complete, you're just pasting the remaining side stories to the main story post facto.
I hope there is more "choice and consequences" in TES this time around. It would be nice if there were multiple paths to complete each storyline. It would also be nice if your skills and faction ranking had an impact on the main story. A fighter would take the "warrior's path" while a magic user would take "the arcane path" and a rogue would follow "the silent path", as their choices determine the types of challenges they face. Whichever factions and related skills the player invests most in determines what path the game will set them on. So the story would be slightly different for magic, combat, and stealth. I guess this turned more into an RPG wishlist rather than an analysis of RPG story design.
Not sure if it's been linked yet, but here is a sneak peek for the Collector's edition art book.
Preordered the collectors edition today. Cannot. Wait.

True, but you had the option to tackle anything, in any manner wished and at any time.
Same cannot be said of many other games. I'm not expecting to go at lvl 1 against the final boss, but spoon feeding me stuff which I had grasped ages ago, when I'm 20 levels above the mini boss infront of me, in what amounts me having to travel down a 4 hour corridor does very little in the way of me praising the game.
You should be able to run it maxed just fine, actually. Bethesda will be releasing the specs next week. But don't forget, this game needs to be able to run on 5 year old hardware. It still uses DX9.
Man I sure hope someone mods this so the shadows don't go to black. Also some SSAO would make a world of difference.
Given how much mods improved on Oblivion, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Skyrim improved as much, if not more. And probably even faster in this case.
It'll be as exciting as the game itself to see that start all over again.

I really hope so too as the latest screens Im seeing look even more flat and lifeless in colour than the old screens that were around. It looks like a great game regardless but I dont know whats going on with the lighting/colour grading
Of course not max, but I should easily be able to match xbox quality?
Either their new rendering engine is way more unoptimized and slower for pc than gamebryo, or you can expect something similar to oblivion/fallout3 requirements I'd guess.
It still has the same consoles as target platforms.

The snow scenes look really great to me for the most part but I agree with you on pretty much everything else. Most of the indoor screenshots and some of the outdoor shots above just really don't look that great to me and the lighting/color grading sees like a big part of why they look off.
I usually tend to do a Warrior/Healer so I don't need to carry around too many potions. Also I usually get pretty heavy into crafting/alchemy. I'll probably get into Enchanting too now that it's a fancy skill.
i'll probably play some kind of necromancer..
Resurrect them enemy bishhhes and let them fight for you, while you lay back and enjoy the finest brew in Skyrim, throwing in the occasional fireball to keep the fight interesting..
In the link I posted, the author of the article mentions that you can resurrect fallen enemies, the question is though, will they spawn as generic skeletons/zombies or will they spawn like they were when they died, only that this time they fight for you?
Best case: they spawn the way the were, but with a zombie skin, however that's pretty unlikely
I havent been paying attention to ANYTHING on this game, cept for the screen shots in this thread. I dont know anything about character classes or anything. the last elder scroll game i really played was daggerfall, and even then, i just ran and jumped everywhere to build up those stats.
Im excited to play this with a fresh mind. Be totally suprised by everything.

Is it the new Bound Bow spell? Maybe you can combine it with another spell, like fire, that will enhance or modify the damage?

I picked an arse of a time to start a new relationship as well haha...
i just came.....
but what do you guys play as? you guys mind sharing playing styles?!
Sometimes I'll play through as a warrior mage, which I may have to do in Skyrim, since the magic looks pretty sick.
i'll probably play some kind of necromancer..

@Geezus: amazing!
Can I start downloading it at midnight on the 10th (technically the 11th) ? or will it only be accessible on the day of the 11th?
I thinking about taking the 11th off, but I don't want to do that just to sit there and watch the game download all day
It's usually never straight at midnight, and midnight often varies across the world
They most often have a countdown timer, and from my experience it is somewhere on the day of release from midnight to the next.
