I'm personally a big fan of E, but C fits the tf2 style a bit better I think.
Maybe I will submit C and use E for my personal knife if the darn thing gets picked.
adam - good idea, I will try to put some more detail into the wooden scales since its a bit plain at the moment. maybe try out a version with a heavier grain in the specular map.
anyway Its about time to focus on the other stuff, for the hat I will do an exaggerated homburg hat slightly off to give the spy a thug look.
pistol wise I am in a bit of a pickle, its so hard do create a stylish pistol fitting for the theme, without going to overboard in the details.
Here is a quickie, no shading, just to show you guys something!
as always, crits and comments are most welcome!
edit: yes, that's wood on the suppressor. It will be nice pretty polished wood
Nice hat, try to have it's color similar to the suit though :O
A common complaint about the Backbiter's Billycock (aside from that the modest looks just like it) is that it doesn't match the suit as well as the Fancy Fedora.
The gun is a nice idea btw. The suppressor looks a little too long though. There's more weight on the front of the gun than on the handle. Also be careful of having the handle not fit his hand right, the knob looking thing on the end looks like it could make things difficult.
Nah, no need for any extra things to it :O
I think this concept is perfect the way it is.
I really do think most people enjoy the Backbiter and Fancy fedora because they are just simply, normal and fashionable hats.
A camera hole would turn it into another goofy item like the Camera Beard.
I like the overall design of the pistol, but some of the shapes look really flimsy to me.
the conecting area between the barrel and the surpressor is much to thin and doesn't look like it can support the surpressor's weight. and the wood from the grip, it looks nice but the way it's angled up at the barrel end gives the whole gun the impression of arch that isn't actually there, thus making the surpressor look even more unstable.
I really liked B the most, and that last shot you posted really looks like a nice pair of brass knuckles would suit the kind of thug-ish character you are developing
I still think the nick in the blade of the razor looks odd, especially since it's Damascus steel. That said, it's still one of the sexiest models I've seen made for TF2, especially the area around the hinge, the texturing there is literally perfect.
Oh and personally, I think the original blade texture is still best, after that C. D looks too dark to me and B doesn't have the steez of the Damascus steel.
I hope the pistol come out great... it is perhaps the item that could put you ahead of the other entry's (ones with 2 great ones and some ok third entry.)
so...
razor=great
hat=great
pistol=???
this is turning out to be a pretty sweet set for the spy! can't wait to see the pistol and the hat. my vote for the blade goes to A or E if you're still tallying. :thumbup:
I disagree with Zip.
I think it's different enough, especially if you plain to exaggerate it a bit.
I really hope you don't add any unnecessary details that would make it look more silly than cool.
It especially don't need camera holes, that's a concept already masterfully performed with the Camera Beard.
If it's textured a bit darker and to look like it's made of velvet or some other soft fabric I guess it'd be fine. The base shape of them are definitely similar though.
i was hoping you could have him spin the closed blade with the ring on his index finger once before flipping it open, it would make the animation seem more substantial, plus without it it makes that ring seem likes its going to waste :S
I don't really know... I'm not so much a fan of how he holds it almost closed for most of the time, it seems like it should always be open when he has it out.
The animations are pretty cool, but some of the normal slashes happen too fast and don't really stay in your field of view so it can be hard to see what's happening at times.
I believe he is going to do some edits today/tonight, so if you like to help give some input, or watch him do his thing be free to join the livestream chat whenver he is working on it, good chance that i'm also there to giving some pointers. I had a good time there last night watching him animate my razor.

Spark and I where already kicking round an idea of him shaving a little (trough his mask off course) but spinning it around, throwing it up in the air would be cool, don't know how much control spark has in his spy rig tho.
what would also be cool is having him spin it around on his finger, then do some cool opening the razor trick and do one swift horizontal cut.
^ Might be hard to use as a reference to the Razor though, considering how the Razor have the little ring thingie in the middle and have two parts that move in an axis :O

still have to think a bit of a back story to it, I might integrate something spy like trough, like a camera hole or something

It's definitely different but I don't think it's unique enough from the fedora to be included. Maybe you could add something else to it?

edit: why isnt there a STEAM field?
I want to know that too... I'm pretty sure more people would fill that field than the "Wii friends code" field :S
I hope more Spy weapons and hats come rolling in
*fancy Spy away*
actually I wanted to show a suggestion of a diffrent grip for the spy knife
