the glow is a glow map, its just a black texture with only the glowy bits. some engines use that to add a nice bloom glow on it.
all of these shots are done in viewport with Xoliul's Shader.
I decided to redo the razor, I found this great straight razor forum where their members create some really stunning quality straight razors. I was so inspired with their crazy designs, I decided to pull an all nighter and create a cool new design and model it with a higher triangle count in mind then the old one.
I am very happy with it and I hope you guys will like it to!
(still rendered with Xoliul's shader, wouldn't know what to do without this great shader)

can you tell the forum you were on? i need a couple of knife ideas myself!
even though you had me with the first try already, this one is just as fabulous if not even better !
guess the texture materials won't change too much on this one
Its an old blade, it had some damage. The first 10 spinal cords it might survive unscathed, but after being used for several generations of cutting throats and hitting bone, you can expect it to get some wear and tear anyway, I'm working on the uv map now (its a B.I.T.C.H) to get it how I wanted to be. I'd rather struggle with NURBS right now :P
Maybe you could ask Sparkwire to do some animations for you. He's been doing animations for a few entries so far and everyone has been happy with his work from what I've seen.
Also I really like that razor. I've only played Spy for about 20 minutes out of 400 or so hours of TF2 but if I got that I might actually try it out a bit more.

He could ask Sparkwire, but I would personally like to see him try it himself first.
I mean that since he's a good modeler, learning to animate would only improve his capabillities. If he learned this, he'll have one less obstacle when modeling in the future
So try to animate first Evil, then you can ask Sparkwire for help later if you find it too hard or if you're unsatisfied with the results. It will be a good challenge for you. This is only a suggestion though, you do what you feel is right.

thnx, that is what I will be doing. I work at a development studio and I have a nice animator on hand here to help me with my attempts at animation. I'd rather do everything myself since that means I have full control on how it will look and act out. It will be a big learning process!
I mean I haven't modeled anything in 2 years and before that I only picked max up 2 maybe 3 times, I started at the dominance war 2 contest fully unprepared but I came out of it much wiser. So yeah, it will be a difficult but very rewarding road in the end. Can't wait to see the results
!@#!$!# damn! was soo close in finishing the unwrap, atleast 2 hours of work lost. With around 98% of the uv's done I encountered in the uv's a cylinder that was off.. so I checked the model and there apperead to be an error I did (Propably the backculling in max to blame) I welded something. so I went out of the unwrapper, removed the cylinder and it caused the whole uv's to reset .. thank god I saved the model yesterday in a reasonable state. but it will set the texture back 1 day.
I dont understand why unwrapping has to be such a horrible process.
ah.. no I didnt, havent modeled anything in years so you can consider me a noob
I am fully relearning everything here.
strange trougfh, that even the mighty ctrl-z didnt save this disaster, I knew I should have saved the uwv file before I would attempt something so foolish
edit: any more of these tricks I should know about? know any tutorial that covers this?
ya know... that sig thing is actually the only hat ive seen that i actually Dont want... you could try something along the lines of a monocle? like the spectacles from national treasure but as one monocle.

I too would not wear those cigs as a hat... BUT I would wear them as a misc item...
I am pondering about using the sigs for a custom taunt, like the cigarette from the spy kit.
How or what I'm not sure about, but I am getting closer of removing it for a possible misc item. to many complications with its design.
Also I haven't had time to fix the uv's yet, a small delay. I am working in the meantime on a design for the new gun, I will post some silhouettes soon so you fine gentlemen have something to choose from
I am in a bit of a pickle with my revolver replacement.
some rough thumbnails. I have no idea which direction I want to go. My theme is legacy so I want something old, plus I think a "modern" suppressor on an antique gun would be pretty cool. people, help me choose
I also wanted to have my razor's uv's finished by now but no luck, I have been pretty distracted by the dutch elections.
Number one looks great. But I think that if you remove the silencer and slightly prolong the barrel it will be even better. Flint-lock from second pistol will add an antique as is the case with your razor, especially if you make it [lock] big and well detailed (:
One of a set of pistols built in the 16th century by legendary French gunsmith Pierre Gunn. It was used in the famous duel between two rivaling French families of spy, Rougebouclier and Azurebouclier. It has since been passed from generation to generation of spy and has faced a few modifications since its build. Now its your turn to wield this legendary pistol.
Sweet pistols! And I like the backstory. For shapes, sounds like you've already gone with 1, which I think would kick some ass. And a nice bulky silencer!

no there's another one...let me look in my files for it
here we go
new texture

Excellent idea of putting it into the game.
I don't think glowing part is usefull, it don"t really stand with the TF2 Art.

No clue yet as how it will look in game

offcourse it wil look badass!
That's a good point. Since your razor has a blunt tip it'd be like a teeny ineffective club instead of a clean stab.
Yeah I guess whoever's getting that many cigarettes would be baked :poly124:

PS forgive my spelling, its late
it looks like it still fits in the world and with the razor
1 with 2's silencer
PS if anyone has any more awesome suggestions, don't hesitate to post them!
