It is about time I built a real normal mapped piece. I'm trying to broaden my abilities to more than just level design. Any beginners tips I wouldn't have already picked up here on polycount?
There are some very rough normal map areas due mostly to my lazyness in unwrapping. I wanted to figure out some sort of workflow before I got in over my head.
Thanks,Im basing it on the interrogation room from The Dark Knight. But I'll be adding some "extra's" to the scene, to show that the joker has been there.
yeah I'm (re)posting here the little update I posted on my sketchbook a few days ago (because as Cholden said, sketchbook section doesn't seem to be very popular ) I'll maybe detail it a little bit more later and texture it.
thanks for the feedback guys
ged - cheers for the crit, yeah the arm looks weirdly long, i'll shorten it and fix the anatomy when it comes to retopo. And yeah, pilfering from rage's style book a bit
quicky model of pablo the anaesthetist, not mad keen on the stuff around his stomach and anatomy is scribbly.
coming along nice armanguy. not totally convinced over the design, but the techniques are coming along nice.
some great work on the last few pages. i have been in lurk mode:)
my latest offering. the rocket pack is just so i can visualise the scales properly. will do a better pass on it soon
Ruz:
Your wrinkle work always amazes me nice going on the overall model!
Kite:
HEY kite!
Model looks real freaky in a good way tho
Armanguy:
Loads of improvement over your last mdoe fosho.
Agree with ruz on the design tho(dunno if you were given a concept!), but can you blame me? i HATE tanks
Achemed:
You REALLY need to finish this.lol. IVE SEEN TOO MANY TINY UPDATES FOR THIS GUY!
Adding more details with the nvidia filter in pS.
And heres something i made up. Inspired by shit going on in the comicon challenge over at GA.org
Arman, looks good, but with the turret over the wheels, there's no room for people inside. The axels for the wheels would have to go through the space people would be in.
I'd raise the turret up, or shift the wheels around.
Don, texture could use a little more work for this to seriously pop.
Why such heavy shadows baked into the abs, and collarbone, and it looks like legs? Doesn't look realistic or cool at all, just gives this awkward action figure appearance to him.
Anyway, completely awesome model and otherwise pretty solid texturing job.

QFT, currently it looks more like the classic mistakes people used to make with doing all their work with the Dodge+Burn Tool in Photoshop.
....but I'm wondering, why the deviation from the known design/colors?
I would think an artist of your talents could execute within the boundaries of the original design and still have it look fantastic. Obviously its your piece and you can do whatever the hell you want with it, I'm just curious about your thought process.
He's much bulkier than the Abe we've seen in the past and the face has a slightly African (black guy I mean) look to it which many of your faces seem to exhibit regardless or race or in this case species. Maybe thats just me.
Caveat: Im only really familiar with the character from the films and cartoons. I think I read 1 Hellboy comic years ago and I dont even know if Abe was in it...
Heres my entry for the GA.com Comic Contest. I got reeeealllyy lazy with this one, and ended up rushing most of it. Here it is though, at least I finished.
Amazing work everybody! I friggin love this thread. We should get one of those heart necklaces but I'll get the middle piece.
ThatDon! Best wolverine ever!
Empty!!! What did you do to flash's face!!! He's not an old creeper, Wally West/ Barry Allen was a handsome flirtatious man! Looks amazing otherwise

Enix, nemesis is coming along nicely, cant wait to see it textured.
@cholden, that truly looks badass man. It gives me a nice warm quake feeling. Awesome details.
@Vitor, looking nice so far. Are you planning to bring the armor into zbrush/mudbox?
And oz thats a nice start so far. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for the crit! gotta fix that
@vitor: I love where that's going, pretty sexy.
Started some asymmetrical details, kinda rough atm:
today's lunch sculpt
Spent some time re-zbrushing the head.
More of just an exercise to get familiar with ZBrush. I need to get back and work on the base mesh though
slight progress on this honey
not making it its own thread yet, but just wanted to post it up for any comments or crits
sickkk
moar moar MOAR.

Sorry if the pics gave birth to a side bar
I may chop her head off, and do that on a seperate mesh, using subsurfs, no sculpting. Lack of seamlessness for the neck though
I'd raise the turret up, or shift the wheels around.
Got a concept or are you wingin it?

I just think it completely opposes the shapes in the (sharp, clean) sculpt, and just makes the whole thing look lower res and awkward.
It's subjective, though, i guess.
grawr!!
You also might want to try a more well know pose with him in an attack pose, hunched over, elbows back, hands in fists and claws out.
Yeah, - it'd be great to see him posed up , poised for action .
The now much further progressed cow (click for bigger version - didn't want to spam up the thread. ):
Progress thread here
And I couldn't resist playing a bit with polypaint to see if he is heading in the right direction. Very quick and rough:
My wife is out of town so I have the afternoon free. I'll try to have more posted tonight.

Bobo: I love your style and how you incorporated it into the Abe character.
Vahl: Very clean modeling.
