first time I'm actually posting stuff here, usually just been posting on GA....but that place seems emptier lately, and I'd like more feedback.
concepting a mech idea I've had in my head for 6 months, and redrawn on paper napkins for 5. would really like to hear some suggestions, if anyone has some.
Im having trouble drawing a similar female face before i get on to blocking in some value and color. Im also working on a big traditional painting in art class. Thats going to take for friggin ever, photoshop is much easer than acrylics lol.
Anyone know where I can find some large straight on pictures of buildings? or rather what I can type on google images :P
depends on what your looking for
Downtown Long Beach and LA has some nice stuff as does Manhattan of course check out the Fenwick shopping center in England as well all good stuff for modular building design ideas.

googleing something like "building front view" will get u a bunch of stuff.
You can pretty much get anything straight with the transform tool in Photshop though.
Started work on a cobblestone texture, it's going to be part of a larger scene I'm working on. I nearly killed my computer with the 7 million polys worth of stones in Maya. Be glad to get some feedback on this.

My first impression is that there is a bit of a moire pattern, also, I feel the biggest issue at the moment is the mirroring in the middle it produces a very straight linear feeling, that I don't feel works in a cobblestone texture, here a few quick examples of cobblestone roads in a similar type of pattern to what you made.
Also, some dirt/moss/stuff, in the cracks will definitely be a good idea.
Here's where I'm at with building a tower, it's the hero prop for a medieval/fantasy square, very loosely inspired the Clock Town South from Majora's mask. It's pretty much ready for the primary texturing phase, although I still need to model and bake the door. I won't be texturing it farther than the bakes until after I finish modeling and UV'n the rest of the square. It's all blocked out though.
CJE: I think ever portfolio needs a good Ninja Turtle. You're off to a good start and I love that concept! Did you paint that? I cant quite decipher that logo-tag in the corner. If not, you should credit the original artist.

Thanks Scooby. It's not my concept no, I fully intend to credit the original artist, I just forgot to bookmark the CGhub page, so I'm trying to find it

That happens to me way too often. Even right now I have a nice piece of concept art I would like to work on, but forgot the artist. I've done many a CGHub searches (which inevitably lead to finding more awesome art).
Anyway, that turtle looks good so far. Looking forward to seeing it progress.
if I could suggest some things.
your stones are placed very flat, and they're all the same height.
maybe break that up a bit with uneven normals?
also, they're all the same colour, while both your reference pictures have multicoloured stones. be careful not to make the difference in colour too stroing, or it'll stand out a lot on the repeat.
and the space between the tiles is too light, I'm not sure if it's the colour, or just the spec tho.
CJE : Loving it so far, looking as good as the concept.
Edit: Though the thighs could use some more muscles on the upper part if you compare it with the original concept. And I would raise the shoulders a bit so he gets a more V-shaped body, also his abs-shell could be a bit thinner on the sides.

i rekon that is the final model there, back of the church wont be shown much in final render so should be ok, thoughts?
...im not looking forward to uving/texturing this, tips with how to?
I like using UVLayout from Headus (you can get their demo version for 30 days). For a brief tutorial on how to use it, I'd head here: http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/autodesk-3ds-max/create-a-realistic-looking-mailbox-using-3ds-max-and-uv-layout-day-2/ . He does some layout in max, then swaps over to UVLayout.

more geo on the shoulders for good deformation. Also: why so many polies in the hat?
Fun project, all handed in. Learnt quite alot of new skills to start fresh for my new environments. Trees from UDK, everything else mine.
In regards to Unwrapping, I've never used UVLayout but it looks like a valuable tool. One of my school buds made a good tutorial utilizing quick planar/stitch/relax methods in Max. You get some accurate results, and it's not that hard once you get it (just a little time consuming, but that's unwrapping for you). Here are the tut links:

The tower all together is 14,174 Triangles.

Doing an awful job but doing what I can. Only way I'll get better, I suppose.

I think you need to buff up and elongate the legs, mainly the upper thigh.
Here´s a quick liquify:
Yesss! Looking forward to seeing some more!
sorry for the crummy quality
Looks good!
