Meh. I think the graphics are looking pretty fantastic. I mean, it's also worth considering just how damn HUGE the game is, how many different assets and textures they're dealing with, plus the fact that they're trying to get it all onto 1 dvd. In any case you should take another look at Oblivion and maybe get your eyes checked if you think it's a step down.
Agreed. For the size and scope of the game I think the graphics are looking awesome. It's a huge step up from Oblivion which hasn't aged well at all.
@Striff: Playing the elderscrolls for graphics is like downloading 3DMark for the gameplay.
It could seriously be on the exact same visual level as vanilla Oblivion, and I'd still buy it on day one. If it's fancy visuals you are after, just give it about three months after release, and mods will have it looking like ten times better. I kinda hate to say that because I know there are people here working on it... But damn it all if it hasn't been proven time and time again.

Yea, I totally understand what everyone is saying about its about the scope of the game and not the individual assets. It's hard to such great assets when you have so many to make. What I am saying that is that for a game that gets so much hype (as it should) the assets are a bit disappointing. But Oblivion is a game that always been about great game play and epicness, so it's to be expected. And of course it's just my personal opinion from what I saw today
As long as it looks better than Fallout 3, and doesn't hide it's shame with SpeedTrees like Oblivion.
Morrowind was still my fav and it looked pretty awful, but you tend to forget those kinds of things when you play the game for everything else.

Whats wrong with speed trees it's awesome :poly124:
quit hatin' on the speedtree. it's just another tool, depends on how you use it. world in conflict's speedtrees were delicious.
as with any open world game, there'll be a lot of nitty gritty worth complaining about, but as a whole, this is looking pretty cool. I'd like to see a bit more character in the animations, in particular.
I just hope that have more than one voice actor for every race/gender.. But I am absolutely dieing to see what the Argonians look like... They've always looked really goofy to me in previous installments.
I get the feeling there wont be as big an Argonian population as in Oblivion. Its cold up north and their mainly a reptile race. I'd rather they keep them to a minimum and maybe introduce a new race that makes more sense for the setting.
Also, to anyone looking for the next in graphical innovations with Elder Scrolls... Your doin' it wrong.
All races are already confirmed to be playable in skyrim.
I'm pretty sure argonians will retain their facial structure, as they've had it in the whole series, but having seen the dragons, and with overall better character artistry, I have strong faith in argonians looking quite awesome compared to in oblivion.
Skyrim is technically no crysis, but it'll definitely by far be the prettiest sandbox game with that kind of scope.
Quite big improvements over the previous entries.
Also, I'm getting this on PC, modders always makes the elderscrolls games shine!!!
i hate the speedtree option of having every clump of leaves act as camera facing billboards, I feel like I'm in a creepy world were the trees are watching you! I think the traditional method of making trees with edited normals on the canopy have the best results.
I worked at a studio that used speedtree on a previous title but not on its next, I wish I could of asked why - although we did have a bad ass artist who could pump out awesome trees
Also, I'm getting this on PC, modders always makes the elderscrolls games shine!!!
Is it confirmed that Skyrim will be Mod-able too? ( I mean 100% confirmed )
I spent more time modding Morrowind/Oblivion/FO3/FONV than actually playing the game itself
It was already confirmed! They referred to it as Confused Turtle Mode. I was totally going dual axes till I saw dual shields. I'm pumped to see how well it works my first play through. I'll probably be using a lot of shouts, because I don't even know if there is a shield bash...
I think I'll definitely be going magic the first time around.
Though I've gotta say, I'm really sad they got rid of Mysticism. Sure I guess the "magic of mysticism" seemed a little redundant, but it definitely had a feeling to it that stood out enough.
I'm hoping they don't spread all the spells around all over the place. I always liked specializing in just one or two schools.

Lol, now every time I see a speedtree in game I'm gonna think of this

Oh..it is. So that cartoon is actually Dual shield wielding. lol... I thought it was actually meant to be magic. Shield charge/rush would also be good.
Ok. Geezus. You still owe us an exclusive then. Cmon. something cool but nothing you'll lose your job over......something like you can use pigs as mounts, or you can "bitch slap" with the back of your hand.
ahhh, go on, go on,go on, go on,go on, go on....you know you want to.

I'm a little weirded out by some of the people who felt the need to ask some of those questions... I mean really, "Is the culture in Skyrim strictly Nordic, or are there places (like Cheydinhal in Cyrodiil) that show influence from other cultures nearby, like architecture, religion, etc?" - I'm pretty sure we've got plenty of evidence in screenshots, gameplay videos, and articles to answer that for us.
Personally I'm waiting for information on spellcrafting, and whether or not it will be in the game.
I read this the other day. I was happy that they are talking about the PC getting it's share of attention. It's a little weak that games that will be cross platform are aimed to look the same on the PC, when the PC community knows they can push it way more. But, i also know there are constraints and time frames that they need to meet.
"...the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece."
Hmm. I was disappointed when I read this. Takes a lot of the customization out of the game. Sure, some armour combinations looked silly, but it was fun!
Yea...one piece of armour is really bumming me out. I hated how in Fallout you only get a body slot and a head slot. Luckily a there is a really sweet mod out there that fixes that. =D

The only thing that really worries me with Skyrim is stuff like this:
4) Are the main and faction quests branching or linear? What about side quests?
Bruce: Weve focused on telling one story well. There are decision points in all the quest lines that can change things, but overall its a single story. Because the side quests are smaller stories, they are more likely to have major branches. For example, you can decide to save or betray someone, which changes the whole end of the quest. Overall the quest structure in Skyrim is closer to Oblivion than Fallout 3, in that there are many more quests, but they have fewer branches.
And the dialogue system because it has always been the biggest weakness with bethesdas games imo and the reason why for me they cant compare to the really great RPGs like BG1/2, Fallout 1/2 and vampire bloodlines (or most recently the witcher 2). Its still a guaranteed first day buy for me but i really wish they would up thier game in the storytelling/dialogue department.
I just want to let you guys know that I literally dreamed about having and playing this game last night. Kinda sucked tho cuz all I did was kill the frost dragon that we saw in the demo. = (
I have to say, the Alduin Statue is EPIC. It's large, and extremely well made. There's nothing cheap about it. I was thoroughly impressed when it first came through here.

And skyrim, i'm gonna play that until my balls turn blue!
Haven't seen one yet in any of the released media.
I hope Skyrim can pull off a great sense of atmosphere as well. Hopefully not EVERY region of the game is bleak and overcast.

Yep, 100% confirmed. The Creation Kit.
So..? can it be done?
Go on tell us. Give Polycount an exclusive.

There are dragons.
Pig dragons?
and more importantly, can you Bitch slap them?

Twice as many armour-slots as its prequels :P
Upcoming rumors: Argonians are cut out due to blah blah blah...
I guess some peole are just bitching 'bout this since we have not seen any argonian ingame yet. The official statement is still standing, isn't it?
@Slum you could always do no boots!
