From what I understand, it's being painted. I'm sure that the term "painted" is used liberally. I'm also under the impression that it will be staying up for quite a while.
Yeah, looks great, I just hope that they remove the MW2 skill increase display crap from the PC version, its so in your face and I'm just waiting for the Mortal Combat voice shout "FLAWLESS VICTORY!".
Yep...looks friggin awesome. Now I don't want to see any more till I buy it.
That Cave guard was a bit dumb though..."errr...someone just shot my friend with an arrow...hmmm...strange....i'll just pear into the darkness until something hap.....(*thunk)"

Yeah I saw that too, exactly the same in Oblivion :P
The problem is AI can be pretty effective to create if you create a set of variables from which the NPC will be forced to pick up from as opposed to have the option to pick from everything else possible.
Imagine FEAR if you will. The game didn't have amazing AI, but rather, the AI was scripted so as to spawn in strategic areas and only used a limited numbers routines in a given area.
I remember a teacher of mine was explaining to me the idea of filter scripts which could aid the AI in selecting a path from which to explore and pick up options which suit a situation more and more.
Example of filtering:
-NPC interacting with Friendly
=Check
*Interacting with Friendly
-NPC interacting with Friendly
=Null
*Not interacting with Friendly
-Check Friendly
=Check ID status of Friendly
*Dead ^(Killed by player)
-Check Friendly
=Check radius of around NPC and where Friendly is
*Friendly is inside field of view
-Check Player
=Check status of Player
*Player is hostile
-Check Player
=Check radius around NPC and where Player is
*Player inside field of view ^(multiply sneak with range and divide by NPC perception)
-Check Player
=Call previous line to see options
*Player hidden ^(hidden player cannot be attacked so NPC has options A-B-C)
-Check Options
A- Pull out Weapons and hold ground
B- Surrender to player
C- Runaway
Naturally I know zero about programming or how AI works, hell, for all I know, they could be connecting to my internet and series of tubes and animating everything in realtime with puppets, but I'm pretty sure limiting what an AI can pick up given some checks to narrow down the option would work wonders.
I think they should use something like the Director for Left 4 Dead. Instead of every npc having its own AI they each just have really simple AI(just a series of states) and the Director overseas everything, that decides what each AI should be doing at any one time with its global knowledge.
Awww mannnn, I want this game SO bad.
I refuse to go back to Oblivion though, I don't want to spoil the memories with the realisation of how outdated it is.
Could we ride Ponies and do Archery if we wish? It would be cool, like having the pressure ongoing and riding forward or back on a rock trying to stead my aim.
And Rainbows...any Rainbow Dragons?
Also, can we have sliders for how big our breasts can be in games...
You know...for those lonely nights when we're to busy to open up the net...
I'm pretty sure that it was confirmed at some point that it was a perk of the Archery skill that enabled the time slow-down. So as far as I know if you don't select that perk you won't get the slow-mo.
Don't take my word for that though.
But anyway, I am crazy excited for Skyrim, and all this new footage and news is amazing. Big props to those of you who worked on it too, it looks amazing.
The modding community for Oblivion and Fallout 3+NV are absurdly amazing. . . Especially the Texture Mods. It's insane the dedication people put into these games. I wondering what the modding community for Skyrim will be like.. The textures already look really good and about as good as any Fallout mod out there...
Oh yea.. Nudity mods. Good god. Bethesda is giving people a great engine and game to give girls Weeaboo eyes and huge knockers. Thats kinda cool, I guess.
Really sucked that all the Bethesda games were behind closed doors. Went with a group of co-workers and them and myself were all really looking forward to checking out Rage and Skyrim and had been talking about them on the bus ride over. Then the people at the booth were all like, na fuck that shit, only press and special people get to play this stuff, get lost you ruff-scallions! We all left there awesome booth super bitter and jaded for life.
All that aside, game is looking great (minus that one part in the trailer is the obvious guard not noticing his friend die right in front of him) Dragons looks so cool and them being not scripting is fantastic! Cant wait to lose a hundred hours in Skyrim
Hahaha, so awesome. He took the words right out of my mouth.
And lolz at the comments scolding him for being unprofessional and immature. It's the games industry, there's nothing better than finding your inner child and just being genuinely excited for something.
Can we please not drag Jim Sterling in this thread please? It's already bad enough people either hate him or love him without a middle ground, so please, this will only sully this nerdgasmic thread.
Anyway, so...um...clothes...dissipating...yeah...think about it people...think...about...that...
Got to see the behind close doors thing at e3 today. It was a dev playing it on 360 for about 25 minutes.
Honestly, I am not a big fan of the franchise (only played oblivion) and I was pretty un-impressed. Didn't see like there was that much new. I was most disappointed in the graphics. It almost seemed like a step down from Oblivion IMO. But I am not surprised since this is the same team who made Fallout 3 (also, terrible in the graphics department imo).
There was that "slow down time" spell that you guys are talking about. They call it a "shout" in this game.
Skyrim?? Step down in graphics from Oblivion?!?!?!
The environment they showed had a lot of snow. The dev was talking about how the engine renders things like snow and water separate or something like that (I believe he was implying that the texture artists don't need to paint in snow into their textures and that the engine puts it in there for them from a base shader). The snow really just seemed like a white pixel was specular values all the way up. It looked pretty bad.
The textures seemed pretty blah (just like the ones in fallout 3). The game had some serious AA issues as well (they were playing on 360 so I am sure it will be fixed or be somewhat better when the game comes out).
Im confused, what i've seen so far in the videos made public looked great (and all of them so far have been from the 360 build). Did they tone it down?
Meh. I think the graphics are looking pretty fantastic. I mean, it's also worth considering just how damn HUGE the game is, how many different assets and textures they're dealing with, plus the fact that they're trying to get it all onto 1 dvd. In any case you should take another look at Oblivion and maybe get your eyes checked if you think it's a step down.
I agree that the snow doesn't look super-great, but of course something like that wouldn't look as good as if it were hand crafted by an artist. But I still think the snow deserves major cool points for being as dynamic as they say it is.
But meh. In the end, even though I'm more personally interested in making the art for a game than the gameplay, I vote for gameplay over graphics and in that regard I couldn't even begin to complain.

That's an awesome Ad, I'm sure they're applying it the way joe said, in pieces with adhesive.
And with Final Fantasy XIII:

Everything looks incredible. The map is really awesome, love how it shows the actual physical world.

I'm just saying, shouting "Vestimenta Discedere" would be totally, fucking sweet.
lol...I cant wait to Dual Shield Wield...or is it Dual Wield Shield
*goes to test it out*
...
Pretty much sums up my excitement for this game.
I think Dual Shield would be two shields attach to each another, like those dual lightsabers

I was much much more impressed with RAGE
