Mutatedjellyfish : that arm is freakin awesome , really cool to see the mechanics of it hold up at the poly count. She is looking nice as well , one thing that looks odd to me tho is her feet , that seem overly angled from the boot flap down.
so, i thought i'd repost my concept with the progress of my model. i'm not too happy about the model yet, it needs more work. i'm sitting at about 2000 tris and i need to make the sword... we'll see what happens i s'pose
JacqueChoi - Oh man! That is some great texturing work u got going. I got to ask, is that all hand painted textures from scrath or did you use some kind of ao bake or other sort from a high poly sculpt to assist the painting?
It is incredible how much detail you manage to get in that 1k map - look so crisp!
homes44: I'd say make the head smaller and bring it down. Your concept has this nice, rounded feel up top and you've kind of broken that in your model. Also, there isn't much shoulder definition (whether that's hidden behind his pauldrons or not, i can't tell) but they feel like they need to be closer together instead of slinking downward. Your concept drawing has great energy and flow so definitely try and transfer some of those lines into the arms and legs if you can. Looking great so far so keep it up!
achillesian: Texturing is like with anything else; the more experience you have the less time it takes. I'd definitely open up reference to draw from seeing as you'll be painting in the lighting for your character. You've got a great start so far with this but i think you want to focus more on your shades. I'd say try messing around with an AO but I don't know your process. Concentrate on areas of blood flow in the face to get your varying red, yellow, and blue values. I think you're on the right track so just get some reference keep at it.
I got to be honest, JFletch and Murph are really inspiring me to completely start from scratch with my texture paint. The stylized quality you guys have is great for the MMO theme. Great job guys! I just through together a simple base, gonna finish the effects tonight and should be done. Then I'm going to give the texture repaint a go and see if i can finish it up before the deadline.
3D coat is awesome, to bad I cant afford it. Thanks for letting me in on that Murph!
@Lewis-Textures are looking great! I would consider a different color for your rim light. The blue is too much, would use a warm tone to balance/pop out those greens!
Still lots of work to do, like optimise the mesh (now it's OVER 8000!!!), make texture less crappy, make new legs (I found those somewhere deep in the internets), fight the urge to use bump...
Hey all, time to throw my hat into the ring for this comp. Been doing some sketches this week and I've settled on something I'm interested in making. I'm just gonna start modelling and flesh out details as I go. It should be an interesting challenge with the poly limit.
Coming along slowly. Lots of great inspiration and painting tricks from everyone else, just looking at everyone else's pieces really helps. Awesome work everyone.
@ onelunglewis, That's coming along very nicely Is the techy stuff gonna remain white though?
@ Jashugan, lovely concept, cant wait to see it in 3d.
@ homes44, that's badass. gogo!
@ Dusty, cool idea, i love the colours!

Anyway, i did a bit more with my little dude, although it was mainly damage to the head, but moving onto the chest area.... I'm kind of slow with this shit, haha.
@Dusty: Awesome concept. That'll be great in 3D. @HntrLuc: You're a mad man. Thats looking amazing. @JFletcher: As usual, kicking ass. Keep it up! @murph: Digging it so far. Thanks for the video action @r4ptur3: Thanks man. I'll try not to disappoint this time
Trying to get some work done this weekend. Hoping to get the model done by the end of the day. Working through details as I model. Not sure about the cape. Its hiding a lot of the silhouette action. Don't know. Maybe I'll change it. Anyhow, wip:
I sort of forgot about this, been busy with some other work.
Gave it some basecolors, and yeah.. it fails on so many levels it is not worth wasting time on. Going to move on.
Been pretty loose with concepting this time, just some sketches ( I'll show some just for the heck of it ). Looking back I think I shoul've spent some more time on that step. Got a lot of refs though.
Anyway, design; technomage, rough dirty industrial style rebel chick with re-tailored futuristic SS-style clothing with dreads and stuff.
Not too happy about the design but it'll do. Left to tackle is a good solution for modelling the dreads and a final design for the "wand" which right now looks more like a hammer than a generator draining magical power from some integrated relic... a piece of bone perhaps?
Thanks for you comments! JFletcher awesome skills man! onelunglewis nice proportions  Dusty awesome design! HntrLuc Lovely her face, this is female right? JacqueChoi great texturing skills!
finished the model, about 150 tris left, will use them later for something, probably the cape
Got some highpoly work done. Just the body and head, which both will be pretty covered in the end. Had to be symmetrical in order to preserve UV space. Going to try and paint diffuse in zbrush as well as AO. At least it will help seperate different elements for photoshop.
ok, started to block textures. going to spend the next week refining stuff and defining materials a little better. I am amazed at PC's progress -- we're totally going to bring some medals home this year!
I spent some time cleaning up the Geometry to buy myself some more polygons. I really wanted to get those grenades and buckles. I also tweaked the proportions and completely reworked the hand. UVs are done and on to the textures!

going to try a few alternate heads , and the core will have more of a alpha'ed plate cover pattern like in the concept.
interested in your thoughts...
JacqueChoi : amazing texture , incredible sharp style !
Mutatedjellyfish : that arm is freakin awesome , really cool to see the mechanics of it hold up at the poly count. She is looking nice as well , one thing that looks odd to me tho is her feet , that seem overly angled from the boot flap down.
Vorge : looking sick , liking the upgrades !
btw everyone's stuff is looking amazing.
The stuff in this thread is getting sick btw

how long should this much texture take a person to do? I took about an hour and a half, with reference, no colorpicking or anything though.

TL;DR - keep going, use reference.

@achillesian-yeah dude...it's gonna take a while.
@dusty-please make that!
Here my modeling.. Now Texturing !

Great texture Start JFletcher (love it)
New Up
I made some little retake on the waist
Thanks for comment onelunglewis, suburbbum and mutatedjellyfish
Polycount: 2922 Triangles
I starting the texture
First wip:
My Technomage
@Fletcher - I want to snuggle next to your textures while sipping irish cocoa near a roaring fire
@JacqueChoi - looking fantastic!
@Dusty & Karmageddon - great designs! Lots of style

Here's my attempt on getting the glow to work! laugh! : )
I found a solution anyhow, but that I will show on another update.
JFletcher : cool texturing !
Ocarian : Nice modeling man !
Lochness : awesome modeling !!!

Steampunky Technomage
Bogdan, thats some gorgeous modelling.
There is a lot of cool work in here thats for sure.
Well shit. i got myself a girlfriend and my borrowed tablet has been taken back. I still vow to finish this but this puts a spanner in the works .
I finally had time to get started on the geometry and wanted input on it before I went any further, seeing as I'm pretty new at character art
Going to start modeling tomorrow
Any critics and helpful comments would be helpful thanks

looks sweet, probably the first person to go with a realistic style texture instead of hand painted. good job.
I picked the wrong contest to learn how to paint, but you guys are great inspirations!
Man that's coming along so awesome.
I have to admit i wasn't expecting it to be a metal dude though.
Cool stuff on this page so far. (edit: god damn it, new page, lol)

Done a bit more with my texture, I'm pretty happy with how the shiny metal for the cylinders came out..
