Fallen Angel animated game ready character for Game Engines, 150 animations!
Video preview and renders https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rlPqK5

Modeling/animation/simulation and cloth rendering were done in Blender, with a preview video showing the model in Unity.

I based my work on several concepts. In my opinion, neural networks are still not very useful in this field. The only thing I used them for was the shape of the skull, which I actually like the least in this project.

I sketched the sword concept myself. The idea was to make a semi-copy of something so the character could throw it.

Oh, I've seen this one earlier. Nice work!
It looks good overall, but the skull really feels like its weakest point. Maybe it could use a bit of weight and/or expressiveness to make stylization more... purposeful.

Awesome work. I've been fucking with feathers a lot lately. Only thing missing for me is some transmission on those feathers!

    Otherwise goddamn nice.

    Looks very cool overall :+1:

Looking closer, I think there are a few points that could be improved on:

Skull - Got to agree this is the most glaring weakness, looking caught in-between different ideas. Given the overall amount of work put in, wouldn't skimp on such a central element. Perhaps do some paint-overs to explore different options (let me know if you want some :P )

Wings - while looking detailed, the way the direction of feathers is suddenly changes from one row to the next feels weird and makes it look somewhat artificial. If the goal was realistic looking wings, I would take notes from real world references.

Golden armor shading broken? - Compared to the dark variant, the shading on the golden variant looks off, the edges look much less defined. Some issue with the normal map, handedness or how it's sampled?

Closeup of Sword? Since you mention specifically this was your original concept, it would be cool if you showed this in more detail.

More defined alpha on cloth border? I think currently the scarf blends together with the underlying layer.

    Keep it up

A "why" would be useful here! What about looking up historical armor would inform the work here, in particular? Does something jump out about the armor here that feels particularly egregious to you?

I think looking up real world examples is always always beneficial, but something about your comment feels more barbed and focused than just a broad statement on educating oneself about craft, construction, & design.

Are you kidding?   The reason is  that art looks better being based off of practical elements like real world historical armour or swords is because it lends to the suspension of disbelief and makes the art more believable thus invoking a stronger connection to the target audience.   It simply looks bad.  Had any effort at all went into making the armour actually historical, thus practical and useful it would vastly improve the artworks suspension of disbelief.   "Why would that be useful here"  because realism reflects GOOD design

It would make sense though to expand on what you meant.
What if the artist was looking at references, but couldn't interpret them? What if they consciously decided to stylize, but didn't quite land at a good design?
In such cases, IMHO, it would be more helpful to know what exactly you, as a critic, think should be done differently.

someone had their sweetroll stolen lol wtf

@AndrewRosyaev I would make the chainmail pattern larger, unless I'm mistaken and it's supposed to be a shiny wire mesh material. I have a collection of references I took during my time in Europe. Good luck

Wow, thank you very much for the feedback, and to everyone who responded to the thread, I'm new here. Yes, there's something wrong with the gold armor... thanks. Here's a render of the sword, it's pretty simple, but I'm glad it turned out at least somewhat original
