Agreed. And it could probably be done fairly easily with a grayscale diffuse and a little shader magic.
Double Agree: Expanding on that; make a channel map for your diffuse/spec (pack a different gray-scale in each rgb channel) and you can get three times the mileage for a single shader with instances
Hey BeatKitano, my above head was inspired by Mass Effect also!
I think you could safely go a little more poly dense on the head there to avoid that obvious silhouette faceting we're seeing on the head tendrils.
Character I am working on for a team project. Still at an early texturing stage, but it's getting there. And yeah, he's rockin' a Fu Manchu 'stache with those hose.... thingies.
Update on my Gnome concept. Thanks for the tips on light/reflection Vrav, It's an improvement but still not quite there.
It still looks quite flat, and I think its because you're not thinking about lighting areas as if they are 3d objects- your just making the edges dark and the centres light. Try painting in blocks of solid colour with a large brush first.
Just a quickie. +1 if you can name these headphones!
I have the sr-80s. Good headphones. The pads on mine are aren't so rounded. The profile looks more like a flat cylinder with a chamfer. Also you need to do a quick inset/hole in the center of the pad so its not covering the can.
Hey gauss thats an awesome portrait youve got there...really liked the mood...
...thanks lonewolf, big fan of your work man, seriously... I remember taking a look at your stuff some time ago, and saying shit...I wish I get as good as that one day....haha!
for the character well...is the first one I am doing, it
Although to be honest I'd probably just leave it at "2D / 3D Game Artist" and let the viewer decide how multi-skilled you are, IMHO it sounds a bit presumptuous.
Looks real nice. Can't really see much wrong with it except imo it looks a little too smooth around the corners but then my only experience with volvos is the old, box on wheels, models.
Prophecies: nice work! id say the one thing at a glance it could really use is some more color variation, its very monochromatic at the moment, easy fix, but great work so far!
Maze: thats freaking awesome!, love all your hard surface work on this guy the treads and tread inners, are especially impressive! very interesting guy excited to see what this guy evolves into!

Alec,
This is the new design called the SR-80 or the SR-60 which look identical now, I believe. They changed to the foam covers to make them more comfy. The model looks very accurate to me
Jfletcher: yo nice enviro! like the rendering alot, serious painting skillz. one crit that jumps out at me off the bat is that the wrinkles in the tarp on the right seem to go opposite to what they typically would. just a thought.

Your name is Timur for real?

Can't wait to see more progress!
here it is with 1x1024 rgba and 1x1024 normal map.
a bunch of instances of the same object and 4 materials.
and the maps, if you want to decipher it.
also,
how much is an acceptable amount of instructions for an environment texture like this?
mine are sitting at 49 instructions each.
New up
Some ao artifacts, from floating geo.

Sorry, I cant give good 2d crits! :0
proportions are fucked up.
I love it. One can never get enough Blade Runner inspired art I say...
