I made a few mistakes that lead to me not being able to take the turn well.
so with my city racing style, i thought fuck it, ill just seek an alternative road
I might have hit the car with all the gravel infront if i did push the turn,
anyway, good times.
Hey folks, thought I'd join when I started making this hat for tf2.
It's not my first work in 3dsmax, but I figure I could do with some tips from the experts
this is my final for the arena net art test for an intern ship, it was completed in about 7 days, this is my final that is being submitted tomorrow, so comments and crits greatly welcome
Where would you guys suggest I start learning how to model organic things?
Also, I'm new and made a post about 2 days ago in this thread, but by the time my posts were accepted this thread was already 2 pages onwards, so I'll just post the link instead of taking up the room again, been modelling for about a month now.
kite212: The roof could use some more work. Right now it looks too "flat". See this excellent tutorial on roof and building creation, very useful stuff:
i'm no expert on how brick pillars are built in real life, but I'd think they're concrete/filler in the middle and brick on the exterior. So having it worn down and destroyed with bricks encased in concrete looks a bit odd.
MR with "fast sss skin+" for the skin parts and right now 3 arch+design materials for the rest, only 2 specular and glossiness values tweaked just yet, the leather and the pants, rest will follow and the values be baked onto one spec sheet so i have 2 shaders on the model in the end.
and a quick shot on the pedestal, will add her name in the foundation
Nice pedestal Neox. Would you be kind enough to tell us about how you made it? I know it's "just a pedestal" but it's really well made and I wouldn't know how an efficient way to lay those bricks in such a pattern if I was to make it myself.
Just a note about a jacket like that, the way you have it right now would impede a persons walk it is too tight to allow a normal walk. So either you need to make it looser, or add in slits to the side of the jacket to ease the movement.
Also where the hell does that jacket undo for her to take it on and off?
Sweet stuff Frog. Lovely palette. Any chance of seeing more cranberry juice stuff? Maybe a blog or something?
I'll try and post more doodles regularly...most of the time I make them and save em off and nobody sees them. For now here's a hand painted grass texture tile.

kaptainkernals - Yes every blade was painted unique. It took several hours over a few days. Mainly time spent destroying repetition or spots that would appear when tiling over large surface areas.
roB0T - Honestly I don't know how to answer that because I just sat down and started painting until it was done. I don't really have a work process that I follow in like steps I suppose. On tiles like that a good portion of the time is spent having it applied to geometry and looking at it from different views / rotating and trying your best to make sure it doesn't apparently repeat and have hot spots in value that show up.
Yes, very, very nice TelekineticFrog!
This has a very nice feel of depth. Just orbiting over a tiled plane, it pops out very well! Excellent pro work man.

titled with another channel for colour variations in blotches this is just about perfect.
yeah its very very good, loaded it into unity against their default grass tex, tiles as good or better, the only thing that throws my eye off i guess is the unequal use of black, the areas i've highlighted dont have much black where the other parts do. Maybe just my preference
ok as gameartisans is down, here is my proof i couldn't finish it in time....
well i have some hours left but i've been almost falling asleep at work twice today so... 2 hours more sleep wil definitely help, here are so far the concept sheet:
and the constructions shot:
have her rigged and roughly skinned, enough for some posing with later finetuning, have the shaders set up and the lighting prepared for beauty and presentation, also have one of the 2 poses i'm going to make blocked out, but needs more dynamic and oh well i need to pose the hair, dreads, keyband and the cordthingies for her hood
wil have to finish tomorrow as i'm not in town on friday and the weekend, finally some time for partey, peppi and katz here i come!
nrek, if you're doing Ivy, you gotta bring out the sexiness man! FIND YOUR INNER PERVERT! I mean uhh, work harder. It's still very unique and great. Yeah...

I can however film a nice downhill ride here on tarmac.
did 66kmph, 41 mph on parts for this video. Breaks were quite smelly afterwards.
Little mistake here,

What shader/renderer are you using?

Looking good otherwise man.
:edit: i can make a quick tutorial for the bricks, but really its nothing special

huh???
I tested it out, this grass tiles very nicely, great work!
Thanks to all for encouragement and crits.
WIP shot of my Poison Ivy sculpt. Will have to finish it some other time.

nrek: that looks really promising!

I´ve been busy this last month working on my Comicon entry...
I hope you guys like it!

That is a ridiculous "diet" to hold yourself to, especially with that workout load.
Anyway, more:
