The one really cool thing about doing this halftone stuff is that I don't need to wait and hour or two for renders to finish since I don't need a huge-resolution image (at least initially) to get the job done. Speaking of which, Medestruit, that technique for doing halftones is actually pretty similar to the one I was going to use, except it's about half the number of steps. All it took was some minor modification for my purposes. Awesome!
Still a bit of work to do on this, but it's actually nearing completion pretty quickly. I need to get some smaller rocks scattered around and I also need to add a bit more noise to the rock in the foreground. There are also a couple of minor issues with the space chick that I need to fix, but everything else is nearly done.
I really feel like I'm done. I didn't like the jacket so I removed it which slimmed down the design. The hat is kinda void of detail, but it's about as good as I could get it. I don't know what else I can really do for it, and I'm really happy with the skull/hair/neck. The shirt color determines the color of the bandanna, which is cool because it pretty much goes with any color shirt. It would look better on a red shirt than the red background it's flat on here(I used red to make sure I had no patches in my colors...similar to using red on normals to see the bake errors).
So anyway, tada...
Swiz: It's really coming along well. I'm not entirely wild about the white box behind the bottom text or really the bottom text at all, but I do love the header/title text. The halftone looks pretty good too, the only thing I might play around with is stretching the whole thing up to a little bit larger canvas just so it pronounces the halftones a little more(it's a cheap trick, but it works oddly enough). Otherwise, looking forward to the finished piece. =]
retleks: great stuff man, really great shapes, damn i already hatre me not going with style again :X
but well its for the portfolio....
ok here is my latest step:
after wasting way too much time this weekend playing minecraft in multiplayer i finally started roughing in some shapes, started with the jacked and added some more basemesh detail to the overall character, have some more things prepared already but not in zBrush just yet
also tested zbrushs new SSS shader, somewhat hard to control, but i kinda like it
@Medestruit: Badass man, any chance of us euro lads getting our hands on a shirt?:) @d2king10: looks awesome, love it. I would lengthen the feet as -even if you are going for exaggerated proportions- they look like they couldn't support his body.
Nick Carver: Thanks for the feedback, definitely agreed about the ears. That ring zipper was bugging me as well, will try come up with something more fitting there.
CJE: Thanks, it's called 'MudCap1', not sure where I got it though. Click me.
Awesome work Neox! I'm really liking the head now.
Mightypea: finally! something new to show
i think the body fits well with the head, but perhaps the proportions of either could be tweaked (head looks a bit small? iono)
uh no one is arguing about the fact that the one duck is licking the other duck?
Maybe i should also do licking animals.. instead of a harmless project where a female is involved. o0
I think I donยดt understand some of the users in this forum . X-D :-P
@ ENODMI
just ignore the comment above it isnยดt meant for you neither to offend you.
I think it is a good start but you can push the texturing a bit more ;-)
and I know it is meant as a comic duck but the tongue is probably to long.

Ducks are not sentient beings, they have no clue, or do they...:D
Truth ; Iยดm not an scientist.
Maybe the people which tried to piss me off are going as mad as Hulk X-D because i dare to say that they are lazy or blind for not commenting this picture which people can if they wanted see in a wrong way (iven if it is only a cute duck).
@Swizzle
I made it clear that ENODMI work is ok and I gave him a tip on how he could improve his work that it could look better.(if it makes it better is written on another page)
It wasnยดt offensive to him.the rest.. well I thought this is the language i have to use for getting acceptance in this forum? no? then a anchorman should be so nice to write the people a reminder of the forum rules.. (and to me too because I tried to act like them)
I calm down if this is sorted. (well I have a childish nature this evening this will be my apology)
@ ENODMI
you are approved. :-) this is true humour !
Personally I'd like some shading on the bandana, feels really flat compared to the skull, and it strikes me as odd cause there's shading everywhere else. I still like the design though, congratulations. Also, those are some nice close-ups, are those mockups or did you actually get the design test printed?

They are just mock ups. Yeah, I'm gonna go back and add a pattern to the bandanna I believe. I've had several people comment on it, so I will go back and attempt to fix that.
I think I'm just about done with this. I've considered adding some sort of alien hand coming out from behind the rock to really sell that there's something attached to that shadow back there coming to get her, but I dunno if I should. Thoughts?
Also, is the halftoning just going way overboard, or does it feel about right? Maybe a little smaller?
Oh, yeah, one more thing. I know the kerning between the "Th" part of "Thrilling" and the "Ta" part of "Tales is super-fucked. It's fixed in the next version.
Swiz, I might kick the frequency up a tad to make it a bit less pronounced. I think that would look fine if the image was smaller, but at that size the halftone is just a little distracting. Overall though, I do like it. I don't think you need a hand showing, the shadow sells the "terror" in that cheesy 60's comic style.
Don't know nor care what anyone else thinks, but I like it minus changing the mesh frequency. =D

Does it look okay with the legs being much less decorative than the main body?

So much better! Nice work!
That....that is actually pretty nice. All those small detail make it very nice and fitting. What's the tri count?

"but I dunno if I should. Thoughts?" ; yes on alien hand. I didn't even know your intention until you brought it up. I thought she was just posing.
Also, the halftone is a bit strong. It's to the point of washing out the image, which even as an effect, you should strive to compliment the image.
