    Hello!

    My name is Tapio Terävä, and I'm an aspiring 3D artist from Finland. Online I go by the nick "d4psa".

    Currently I'm performing my non-military service (Wikipedia) at the Oulu Game LAB, and will soon start applying for jobs at game companies, so I can start working in one as soon as I finish my service. Therefore, I'm now building up my portfolio, and thought it might be good to start posting my work here on Polycount, as I've been lurking here irregularly for years.

    Hi everyone! I'm Antonio and I'm mostly into PC games, especially RPG like Dragon Age Origins & Inquisitions (both are excellent, Origins has exciting story, Inquisitions with dragons slaying part), Witcher 3 (excellent story telling and exploration), Dark Souls (brutal, but fun... if I can progress), Persona 4 & 5 (just recently, and I'm in love with them).
    Currently I'm also working on a RPG maker game project. Though it's a 2D game project but I still think I need to learn more about designing (at least on paper). And so I hope to learn and share experience with you guys. Thanks!

    Greeting to all!

    I'm Tosmo, I'm new and I am looking to learn. I love concept art and design, and I am anxious to learn and expand my skills. Right now I am mostly a 2d artist proficient with Photoshop and Painter, and I steadily expanding into 3d software.

    I am looking for a community of artists who I can talk to and learn from, and in turn share whatever limited knowledge I have that could be helpful. I have been active in few forums and social networks for the last two years, but many of them seem like they have kinda dried up. Where I live I don't know any designers or creative types so I find it hard to get honest feedback and constructive criticism from a design point of view. I hope to find more thriving community.

    Hello to everyone :)   after  many years in traditional painting&digital ¨ 2d  freelancing&making a living of it ¨ stuff ..   I finally decided to jump into 3d realm.  Polycount was always a place were I ,.. or  my first place to look at for wisdom or,..  after exploring   other  places/sites  I inevitably end . :) ..  
        I start learning modo not long enough to post something that worth  showing  here ..(unless I want to ashamed myself XD)

    Hi All! My name is Adam, I am new to polycount. I spoke to an art director at a AAA studio that I work at and he basically said "if you want to improve, post your stuff to polycount". I would like to be an environment artist so that's the direction I am starting to take my portfolio. But I have a looong ways to go. Feel free to shoot any critiques you may have my way.     My name is James Summers. I started my 3D journey at Full Sail University (2010-2011). During my time at Full Sail, I had the opportunity to learn different disciplines of 3D, such as, modeling, rigging, lighting, texturing and animation. I really wanted to learn more about animation, so I made the decision to join Animschool ( 2013-2014). During my time at Animschool, I gained a deeper understanding of animation, rigging and was introduced to game animation. After AnimSchool, I spent a year working on my first demo reel (2015-2016). 

    Currently, I am working on my second demo reel. I am always looking for opportunities to grow in my craft.

    Hello everyone. My name is Miguel and I am new to 3D in general.  I only have about a month of experience. I will give a TLDR at the beginning if you wish to skip my story. I want to learn about creating 3D characters. My current plan is to get familiar with the programs Maya, Topogun, Zbrush, Substance Painter, and Marmoset. I have a basic idea of how they function but still have a long way to go. At the moment I am thinking about taking the 3D character course from the 3D CGAcademy https://3d.cgmasteracademy.com/programs/character-arts-program-updated/

    Does this seem like a good place to begin my character creation journey? Please give advice on the best places to learn about this. I want to maximize time/gain. I have purchased courses on udemy in the past that taught bad practices so I figured this time it would be better to ask from more experienced people. I am willing to invest money for education. Thank you for your time.

    Ok so here is the extra info. I have been interested in 3d work for many years now. However I ended up going to college to pursue a different career. Now that I am stable with a job and life I find my interest returning. Due to time constraints I have decided to limit my scope to characters. I am just fascinated by designing and looking at good topology. I am an overwatch fan and have spent hours just staring at the models and different skins. I want to be able to create things like this some day. Below is an image of my first project. I did this before deciding to limit my scope to characters

But we don't know what programs are available or what to start with. I have heard of Blender and C++, but don't know what's a good program for beginners. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi there, welcome aboard:

    In answer too your question, I'd recommend starting with Gamemaker which is pretty much geared towards those seeking a soft entry into gamesdev. So really no need learning how too code or learn DCC (Digital Content Creation) workflows for now, cos everything is bundled in this one app. Also comes wiith it's own visual logic system (GML) just the first step creating fun interactive experiences. Anyway have a look, see what you think, perhaps even download the free trial if you like and test it for yourself.
