ok i am about a 1/4 through the AO map of the model and looking at the above image i just have to say, that is major turd in comparison to what it is becoming, and it almost makes me want to take down the above image.
im guessing everyone gets this feeling when they finally see it with AO
Your thread is suspenseful!
Please show us your wip, not
the little broken link red cross
Happy to hear that normal baking is ok.
Can't wait to that big robot with normal map on.
im really happy with how the baking has turned out, as mentioned before, there are noticeable areas with weird normals but i will fix them in the textures.
im just glad how this has turned out so far, it will continue to keep me smiling when doing the texture
edit:
theres a dark area around the crotch where i forgot to bake an extra mesh in the AO, so it doesnt merge well with the loin thingy... oh well, quick fix.
Awesome bake, the char design is great, you nailed its similarity with the concept, I seriously hope this makes the top 50. Inspiring best of luck for the remaining finishing steps.
Off to a great start with the colors. Im liking the main green camo color. I would suggest some dark gun metal color for pieces like the neck and rib part. Then maybe a secondary main color that compliments the green, like that orange you got going. Keep it up!
Incredible job Fletcher!!! This guy has really turned out great so far and with the texture work you have going it looks like its going to keep getting better.
Been watching this one for a while from afar. Awesome concept and Modeling.
I'm new to game models (brand new) so I got a question. Do u retopo over
individual pieces and bake in max or xnormal?
stellar man! the design you have on the greentooth is great, not too fancy and it realy sells his realism i like what im seeing from the little orange bits'o'glow in his chest too!
I've been following this thread and found it very inspiring for my own machine entry.
I had a feeling all the details won't transfer well to the normalmap but guess I was wrong, well done awesome work !
aye, i split sections off which would just be a nuisance to try and merge into another part of the mesh and do them all separately.
and yeah, i baked in max, never got the hang on xnormal tbh.
started some rendering,
probably gonna do some paint overs of this pic to solidify my approach and see if i can pull any neat effects.
edit:
oh and the name is kind of a working thing, still cant picture what this guy would be called, and as a robot you kind of expect it to have some sort of combo of letters/numbers, hard to be innovative
As i mentioned this was very new to me so i spent like 11 days i think just dragging vertices around the high poly model like a fool. (although some areas i could just take the high poly, grab some edges and collapse them, they weren't "that" high poly actually i could show you the wire frame of the high poly model if you want)
Sometime in the future i need to figure out a better work flow for this kind of stuff when it comes to the low poly.
Nice work! I like the style youre giving the texturing to this. I would maybe suggest bringing in some more of that green into the leg parts and gun as well.. maybe the toes. Would really be awesome making a stylized background and base that goes well with the model.

Cheers MoP, your guy is looking ace
anyways, today i got some baking done, some bits are a little messy but nothing i cant clean up in the textures rather than the bakes themselves.
i still have to do an AO bake, and im getting on that now, just wanted to show when im standing atm
(yes quite a bit of the upper arm is missing, intended for the time being)
edit:
damnit, forgot to bake the thumb, lol
its made up of pretty rigid bits so i baked sections at a time

Gese! Your robot is awesome. Nothing to say
but "I'm jaleous"
Keep up the great work. Will be waiting in excitement for the texture!

moar work tomorrow
Your work brings lots of inspiration to me.
Can't wait next Dominance War

I think you need to make some room for a new Intuos 4?

liking the colour scheme and the lp mesh and bake are second to none
