scaling the arm is a route i was considering taking, and it looks like i might just.
thanks for the crit.
@ marshal banana,
noted! However for a rig pose shouldn't be too big of a deal
@ AimBiz
that isn't the complete ankle, just a little plate at the front of it, i would never make it 'that' thin, heh cheers.
thanks for the support guys, will show the back once ive shined it up a tad.
Haven't done anything today, got my brothers PS3 hooked up and played some CoD5..
..i completed it in 5 hours god that was an easy game, and i swear pretty much every battle has been done before in the other games or even MoH: pacific assault.
but anyway, enough about ww2, theres a real war going on here.
upon looking over, resizing the arm might make the proportions even worse (imo), whilst it is correcting the overall arm length, the point where the elbow joint is doesn't really fit along side the torso very well, ok yeah its a paint-over, though just trying to make some observations before hand.
gonna push centimeters each way and tweak everything a little bit without losing the long armed stumpy look.
--
i also think the shoulders could stick out more, thanks for the crit on that ^
EDIT:
bah its confusing me, one moment the elbow seems a bit high the other it seems fine, heh, will have to see what holds my eye the longest
Really nice work! My only question is as to the size of his feet... I assume that he's about human size, and built as much for speed and power, based on the size of them?
Great work so far Fletcher! From what you have roughed in for the ammo bag thing it seems like it should be pretty awesome. Makes me think of the ammo crates for the APU's in the matrix for some random reason. I can see him like running over to a supply area when he runs out of ammo and squatting down to drop his empty load and then butt bumping an ammo container to stick a new bullet pack on, lol. Keep it up dude.
Great modeling mate! love to watch your progress on that piece:thumbup:
Only one thing troubles me - the size of the feet compared to the size of the hands and the head, the feet seems to look very little and fragile on that massive mechanical body
also the size of the hands and the head makes the robo to look little cartoonish but maybe i am not right just thoughts:)
I may sound like a idiot, but I think that it would just as good with a more human approatch to the upper chest and head,
Dont get me wrong I anit no stuck up 't##t, i do actually know my place as a recruit but still i think it would flow better.
just a thought anyways, back to sucking up
It kicks arse even like that, !
I think that i remember your last compo entry, i was just starting on 3DSM then, am surprised you did'nt win,
your wip here is really informative to watch, and the character is coming along beautifully. I've been checking in on this a lot, and you really know what you are doing!
yep feet are gonna change, something i noticed earlier on but i also wanted to show the back so far thanks for the crit.
@ lazerus
i went over the idea of a human (or part human) head but it was hard for me to take it seriously, and without it reminding me of taehoon. (i think thats the name of the dw2 winning model)
thanks
@ valandar
kind of, although i wouldn't say it was my intention that it would be the same size as an average human, perhaps twice as big, but not a giant robot im gonna scale up the feet a bit though, thanks.
@ gaganjain
Yeah don't worry theres still alot i wanna do to the back. thanks
did some of the ammo crate + holder today, fixing the feet now. most likely gonna change that thing hanging at the back, just seems lazy to copy the front one, heh.
Looks absolutely brilliant! 10/10 !! maybe could you tell me what method of modeling you use to do your necromancer its brilliant! sorry for offtopic ness!
Looking awesome. I agree about the flap thing, loose it. It makes the back look cumbersome as opposed to the front which looks more sleek and efficient. Maybe try to mimic the curve leading down to the pelvic region on the top of the ammo box. The square top isn't looking right. It looks as though it was thrown in as an after thought. I would work on making it fit better with the overall asthetics of the bot.
for most stuff i usually just start with a plane and drag out the side shape with more polygons and fill it in a little bit at a time, i often use cylinders to rough out the shape of arms/legs like most people, so nothing really special.

@ nooby
i guess i didn't want to over do it, i preferred the idea of the ammo crate(holder) being something bolted on last minute in preparation for war not necessarily an entity the whole robot was built around, but rather, more optional.
anyone else think the same as nooby? i guess i could change it, never really came up as a concern to me.
@ Xaltar
could you rephrase that please? not sure what you suggested doing, you mean it curving up and backwards?
I do agree a bit with nooby; I think it's the boxiness of the ammo crate that makes it clash a bit. Everything else has quite an elegenat curve to it in one way or another, but the ammo crate seems to lack this. Perhaps something more like a cylindrical ammo drum mght fit a bit better.
No probs jon
Sorry lol but i have one more question. Would you use a plane or a box for heads ? I always find heads hard.
Thanks alot.
I will be on topic now.
10k triangles should be enough, thats like, double what we had last year which is pretty amazing though it will probably still be a challenge but ive always wanted to try and pull off a kickass robot
changed the ammo crate thing, its like a semi circle drum, still slides in and the ammo reel is curled back around and fed out to the weapon:
also made the change to feet, they should look quite larger now. i will show progress on the gun soon!
new ammo crate = the win. I wasn't sure how to say it in your last post, but I was hoping it would take up more volume somehow. I was going to suggest maybe a few random pipes or wires connecting up to the circle part but I am not sure if it would make much sense. Changing the size and proportions of the crate satisfied my thirst :P Nice work!

Loving the style, gives me some nice quake vibes by some reason. Keep it up!

I like the hand wich reminds me of a gothic armour gauntlet.
Can't wait to see more.

still not much again, but the feet:
ok im working on the back mostly now and cleaning some stuff up, i feel the feet should be a little bigger in general which i'll get on tommorow,
the ass hasn't got much going on, so i did a quick paint over to kind of show the container for the ammo as a sort of hanging crate-bag-thingy.

In my humble opinion anyway.
A pic is worth a 1000 words so here
Just an idea I PSed very quickly. It should help the box to flow better with the overall design.
