started doing this on lunch bbreaks to learn the tool.. if you HAVE to i guess you can use z brush,, but that makes you totaly lame. rember hour or less! up first this guy thing i did today
No MudBox for me Blender sculpt only (new release candidate).
50 minutes from a cube. No ref. *I took out the earlier pics - since they were a little redundant*
..and this is about the poly-limit of blender's sculpt tools on my machine. Sadly I can't sculpt into this any more - I had to delete the lower sub-divs to free-up memory, and the brush chugs across the surface too much to be useful..
Just opened MB for the first time, not really a head... Its a 3 eyed section of a monster... But I wanted to see what kinda results I could get with the tools in 30mins... Like they say, and artist can just load it up and start painting... I L O V E it.
Vahl, that's awesome... would have been nice to keep the detail consistent though... great job for just an hour though, I might try something more detailed
okkun, nice to see some more expressive silly guys with big moustaches, good work
Fuse: Nice start, here are some hints for going quicker - set your brush strength up crazy high, and get all the proportions and shapes done at the lower levels before even thinking about adding detail.
Anyway, 10 minutes for this:
I've overwritten this 10-minute video with a better-compressed, double-speed DivX video of a better sculpt which you can find here (18mb download).
some cool sculpts in this thread. i cheated a little and used a base head mesh - my computer starts choking if i subdivide too much so i can't get much detail out of a cube. like 5 mins over the hour mark.
These are neat! I'm new to this forum, so I want to browse around some. I enjoy the ones with the mustaches and your last attempt, Okkun. It surpasses the generic heads many people start with.
Here's another I did tonight, about 30 minutes. Click the image for a double-speed DivX video (18mb download), or grab the 1mb ZScript below if you have ZBrush and want to see it.
I keep forgetting about zscripts, good point okkun, that's probably better than a video! Fortunately I caught mine before I closed zbrush, didn't realise it was even recording, I guess it's on by default
Here's the ZScript, I think you just need to open the .TXT file. Dunno how to speed it up I'm afraid, it's just over 30 minutes long. You'll need to put "64box.obj" in an accessible place too, since the ZScript will ask for in a file load dialog just after it starts. I've tested it here and it seems to work ok.
That absolutely rules Askhat. Makes me think of some freaky wind of the willows shit.
Very inspiring stuff in here overall. I really should pull my finger out.

it's fun to keep things fast and pretty loose
About 15 mins. I'll finish it later, have to go learn for a test
Thanks for the video Mop!
Looking good okkun
Thanks so much MoP, your video tutorial was extremely helpful to watch. I have always had problems starting with a cube for a head.
I'm going to check out MoP's vid now.
