Arsh, you're nuts. I feel unworthy to use your bust.
You too, RobG. You're insane...
My eyes suck, they're too far forward.
EDIT: Ah, just realized that the eyes are too low on the face compared to the nose and ears. I should read up on facial proportions before I try this again.
Mojokey, thats lookin' awesome!
Everyone else, these are great keep going.
Buddy, you might have to put the "http://" in your image tag before it works.
Ah Yeah, thx vig, after I edited first time I didn't noticed you have to press continue once after saving changes, thx for reminder though, now it works.
MoP: It looks to me like you are also creating some kind of soft focus glow or quasi-bloom to the image in post, unless the dark & light glows are some funky JPEG artifacting, or a ZB shader feature Im unfamiliar with...
Nice style mop. hey i had a question for you mudboxers. i noticed like in slash's piece and on the jaw in scooby's piece on the previous page that people get a nice faceted clay sculpture feel. is there a clay knife-like tool in the program or is the basic toolset pretty similar to zbrush...discuss.
here's my less than detailed contribution, an hour from a sphere in zbrush.
Demoncage, I don't use Mudbox but I think you can get a similar effect just using the pinch tool in Zbrush. Your head looks great but a little soft, run the pinch tool down the bottom and top of your creases and you should see something similar.
right, i'm aware of the pinch tool in zbrush. my question was unrelated to my piece. it just seems that a faceted look is pervasive in alot of mudbox work i've seen so i'm wondering, you mudbox users out there, what the basic toolset is like.
The smooth tool in ZBrush works a lot like Mudbox's flatten tool if you knock the strength higher and set the falloff to a steep gradient (harder-edged brush).
Scoob: That's called Photoshopping
I emailed the ztl home and spent another 50 or so minutes on this guy 'cos I quite liked him:
cool, yeah, i know you can achieve this look in zbrush. i'm asking just because it seems to show up in alot of mudbox work so i thought it might be a more fundamental feature of the workflow. sorry for the confusion. so it's a flatten tool then, thanks. i'll have to check the program out sometime.
even with smooth set to 100 and 0 falloff it seems to require quite a bit of effort to get that super flat look in Zbrush. Even more so when the polycount is high.
Hmm, true. Seems to work best if you do it at a fairly low subdivision with Smooth strength at 100% and Std strength at 100% also... still not a very good replacement. I never found myself needing to use the flatten brush much anyway
i think that comes from roosters way of using mudbox. well from what i've seen before is he subdivides the hell outta the base and starting the sculpt with it at a verry high rez state. instead of building up the mesh slowwly low rez at first.. LIKE SANE PEOPLE
he still gets good results, but could even be better!
My first attempt at Mudbox last night using Arsh's base. Probably over an hour with not much to show for it.
I seem to be too anal to just sketch and define forms and really impatient to sub-divide.

Here's my humble contribution.. for some reason the mesh got borked and grainy, and i hadnt saved it, so this the actual quality..
1hour(almost) from a sphere.
started with my bust base, you can grab it here

First run at Mudbox with Ash's bust... hummmm Ash's bust... the sweet teat of creativity.

got to install z brush at work <finally> and decided to test it out
forgive the crappy dark screen

Here's a 25-minute zbrushing starting from a zb sphere (hence horrible pinching at top and bottom), waiting for the train after work:
I love that material. The way it shades. That's sweet.
Hehe, cool this is fun
Some awesome stuff here guys, keep it comming

We should have "1 hour mudbox head of the week/month/year" voting thing also !
baldie and hairy versions, I know I know, profile kinda ... oh well it gives him a character
Looking good Mop!
I call it The Guilty Fart
