Just PM me your email address (never shared, for password recovery) and the name you want to use (real name in FirstnameLastname format, or your Forum name).
I would think it would be easier if 4-6 people did it, each taking a number of pages with description and type. Then compare between all of them.
I guess I can to it later. But all doing all of the links seems a little overwhelming.
I was wondering what people do with their own local references.
Currently I'm trying to categories everything into main groups like:
- Plants & Nature
....- Flowers
....- Trees
....- Landscapes
- Achitecture
....- Houses
....- Churches
....- Doors
....- Windows
and so on, however obviously often you have mixed categories. This is why I was wondering if there a good way to 'google' your referance folder. I'm currently using XnView and was thinking I could use it to write keywords to the images, such as locations, main features of the images, style ect, making it easier to find all related images.
What do you guys do to get around with this? Because at the moment I get a very complex folder structure, which makes it kinda hard to find just what you need.
Hey guys, where can I find reference (besides Google Image search) for references along the lines of Chris Seavor's games (IE Conker, Parashoot Stan etc.) The kind of cartoony War Machines and soldiers. GIS is only really turning up clip art.
My team and I are making a small game for our final year at University and we want to aim for a similar visual style, specifically set in a World War kind of environment.
@McGreed I also have trouble with that. Using folder structures gets very complex and many references can go in different locations.
I looked up some ways to create tags, like collections in Adobe Lightroom (clumsy work to tag whole folders and create collections) or various software (hard to search, bad interfaces) but none of the solutions were good enough. Being able to search some keywords as if you were searching on google would be perfect. I'm afraid we'll have to wait for a tag-based file system in Windows (or switch to Mac).
Hey guys, I Really want to model a ship similar to this, can anyone tell me what type of ship it is so i can find some real referance? upload picture
cant find anything like it
I want to do an alien/hi-tech enviro piece. Materials should have some lightness, depth, translucency to them.
I mostly do Pinterest, Archdaily searching. I'd like more concepts, less real (possible to build) architecture
Favourite artists doing stuff like that? Specific keywords? materials, styles?
I would search for things like "organic architecture" "organic design" "translucent scupture" "alien architecture" "plexiglass design" "frosted glass sculpture" "paper lantern" "alien membrane" etc.
Found this today, 4000 pages worth of photos from the Mid Century. It's on a Car enthusiasts forum but the photos contain a lot of non car related stuff too.
I recently visited the HMS Belfast, an imperial warship currently docked in London. I took around 350 high res images of anything I could find on board, from the top to the boiler room. Here's the link to download them here:

You could start small, just do the kind of ref you're most interested in. It doesn't have to be the whole thang, to be helpful.

Tons of hi res images (around 5x4k in size) of different kinds of swords.

Any references at all would be awesome.

Yeah I did. That's where I got the concept but I could do with
Some different reference before I start
I'll bet Alain didn't start from a set design, but derived his own look by mixing components from multiple sources.
Or style
