Started working on a new character in a kind of Dishonored style. Started here not sure if I will continue down these lines but I thought I might as well post him up here since it is kind of relevant.
I am really looking forward to seeing this thread continue.
Heres a wip of progress so far, few hours in whilst fighting my cat, just gotta sort out his hair and work up his cloth, think me and scudz had the same idea on the mutton chops haha
alphajayel - no you dont just make something cool. be it a sketch, a sculpt a model, whatever you can think off
great stuff everyone lets try and get some constructive crits going so to help people out. It was a problem with the daily sculpts a few years back where people dropped stuff in but had nothing to say on others work so lets try and help each other a little bit
so here we go haha
dado almeida - I really like them, not very constructive I know haha, maybe you could push them into a more dark place to fit in the dishonored world?
LadyKnowles - looks great so far, look forward to seeing textures
Kot_Leopold - looking good, maybe some attention to the forms around the mouth could push it more
Duncan - great to see you again I really like the profile of the neck, it might be a direction you could push him, the sternocleidomastoid (big ones on side of adams apple, I googled the name to look smart haha) could be tapered in more towards the inner collar bones.
Torch - looks cool, a few tips on topology, try and make the arm loops more uniform and straight so they dont angle down the arms, you will be surprised at how much the normal map will pick up, if you have irregular shaped polys its best to triangulate them so the bake will come out nicely and helps with deformation, try for full edgeloops around the shoulder/upper arm so to help in skinning. you also have alot of tris in the shoes which could be used in other places instead that require more shaping. hope it helps, looks good so far.
Scudz - looks great dude to try and push the style a bit more it might help to push some of the forms into a crazy direction in a lower subdiv, I found rat features really work for the skinny dudes but maybe pick an area and emphasise it, like the chin maybe? I had it on mine where he looked too pretty to fit into the dishonored universe and didnt have that european feel which I still need to push on mine.
alifarsangi - nothing to say on this, its awesome haha
Speed87 - great start, it might help to drop to a lower subdiv and nail the forms a bit more before detailing. His back and chest need slimming so to not draw the eye, and a bit more form to the head. great start though.
Guedin - you sexy beast, looking good, Im getting a more leprechaun feel at the moment, maybe if you gnarly up his face some more. looks great
Daphz - great to see you again, the snout might need balancing more, you can super play with his proportions aswell to fit the art style in a lower subdiv.
Bek - looks good, are you going to texture it at all?
Dchung - hello again looks awesome, the cloth will be easier to resolve at a lower subdiv I think, hes got a red skull feel at the moment, which is really cool
Frump - thats awesome, love his teeth
Battlecow - he looks shifty haha, you could probably push the style a bit more in lower subdiv now that you have a good base, it shouldnt destroy all your work if you are careful hehe.
mats effect - thats a really cool blade, any viewport shots?
going really well guys, remember new theme on friday, if you run over then post it in here anyway we aint fussy!!!!
Here's a bit of progress on my Dishonored heart in a box. I spend most of the time getting used to Livestream. Going to try and stream my process with these ArtJam deals.
Whelp, I re-did the ears on the high poly, and got the dome of the head pretty much fully low-polyed, but someone had a car accident down the street and took out a telephone pole, and I lost it. This is what I currently have, the normals and uv map on the low poly were just to test out how it would look after I had normals fully done, the uv map will be re-done and the normals re-baked when I'm done re-topoing, I will have to redo the ears, I know, and finish the retopo, but I should be done by thursday.
Highpoly:
Here my final render for Corvo's Mask ! Close enough haha !
Man, I love your mix of soft modeling (the dents and forms of the plates) with hard modeling (the bolts and stuff), amazing work man, just think you should put more into the wear, like scratches and stuff, looking good though!
Edit:
Probably final update for today, should have enough time Wednesday, and/or Thursday to finish it up. Btw I ended up having to completely redo everything below the mouth, and everything above the eyes, apparently I had lost more than I thought, oh well, live and learn, SAVE MORE.
Ladyknowles: Nice little scene, it might benefit from a vent or two, for rat entrances.
Duncan: Dude, just... dude Daphz: Woof man. The face/head could probably be a bit longer and rat-like but it's a very nice start
dcung: That guys awesome man. Not sure he's quite the right style, kinda looks like he belongs in a Mike Mignola comic, but very cool.
Frump: ... when I look at that all I see is "Simple Jack." Sorry dude
Stromberg90: Is that a whal-oil pen?
gilesruscoe: Nice start man,
EtotheRic: That expression is crazy man, love it:)
Jeff Parrott: Interesting Idea, looking forward to more.
3sm: Very nice
weisheng: Maybe a bit more age/weariness in the eye's, but that's awesome so far
alifarsangi: Some overall color variation could really help push that.
Andreas: I really hope that's the start of a crazy party mask.
crazyfool: That's an awesome start, and you're totally right about pushing the forms. Your guy could probably do with some larger ears. I've also noticed that there's a fair bit less detail in the hair and more just a few bold stokes. Thanks for the feedback on mine, I've spent a bit more time with it and pushed out some of the forms along with putting a little effort into the clothes.
ScudzAlmighty: Jes, that is indeed a whale-oil pen... a whalecom perhaps
Here is what I got done during this lunch.
Lowpoly is done, right under 4k tri's but I really don't care I just want to try and texture it before time runs out :P
Also did a quick bake test for "fun", auto uv's nothing special.
Whelp, this is what I've done so far today. I'm probably going to spend the rest of the time in this jam cleaning up and finishing out the diffuse, and creating game ready eye's, which will be a first for me. Also I did a little gif, if it works, you guys can see how the normal map turned out, I was pleased with it.
Replies

I thought I'd be the first one not making a dude but Daphz beat me to it.
It's hard to find reference of the whales from the game. Mine doesn't look as savage.

FancyJames : Haha, nice!
and the Livestream: http://new.livestream.com/accounts/220259/events/1841452 (most of this is just mucking around).
Decided to chip in:
Thanks for the compliment! Glad you like it.
@Crazyfool
You like the teeth? I was thinking of reworking them. I think they look too goofy and detract from the coolness of the guy.
@Suidae
Yup, I haven't even played the game yet but I know whales are important, seemed an obvious thing to make.
haha it never even occured to me to do a lowpoly. was only thinkin sculpt
Thanks! Finished it up today posted my finals below.
Didn't really go into making it fold etc but quite happy with it
