I'm building a composite material in 3DS Max and I'd like to add a MASK to a layer. I'm wondering...does the mask need to be an entirely separate image? Or is there a way to plug in the alpha channel of let's say...a targa or another 32-bit image? It doesn't seem very resourceful to need to create and use another image.

In the Max Normal bump material it has a spot for additional bump..The Maya equivalent doesn't seem to have this..how do you Maya users usually set this up?....thanks
just discovered that photoshop can import obj files and texture them, my problem is that default lighting is so ugly, i was wondering if is possible to have a 100% illuminated material? thanks
hello. i have no idea what happened. but all of the sudden...all my basic materials in max8 are white. tried reverting to startup layout. nothing happens. s'gotta be something dumb. just never needed to fix it.
