Sorry for the very noob question. In some threads lately there is mention of hand painting normal maps, what does that mean? Is that painting black and white and then converting it to a normal map? What type of details lend well to hand paining normal maps as opposed to a highpoly model bake?
Hey @v13r1, congrats on finishing! My critique would be that the roughness/glossiness seems out of hand, particularly on the exterior. To me this makes it look like everything has a coating. I would recommend looking at real world reference image and potentially use scanned materials, either as a base or reference when…
Had another topic, but its 7 months dead. sooo... *ahem* Long story short went away for a good 6 months due to a combination of me being an idiot on the forums, and moving across a few states. Im going to try and make some time to get back into making various textures. Just one texture for now. Going to try and pencil in…

Hey i'm going to practice doing hand painted textures and will post my updates here and hopefully get good feedback. I have done a little bit of hand painted stuff but not much. So here are the first one.

I've tried to hand paint plaster walls, as seen in this screenshot: So far, I've only acomplished this, and I'm not very proud of it: Ive done it with a difference clouds layer with a multiply layer style. Does anybody have any tips or comments on…
