Hi there guys, I was wondering the propper aproach to make the band details on this sword. Is it more efficient to add them to the base mesh in zbrush? or make them with the base mesh and then bring that to zbrush for detailing, or just texture work. This is an explanatory concept art
cheers
Hey that's my model!
lol that was a bit surprising to scroll down onto :P
I modeled out quick bands and sculpted some details in zbrush for this one, but sculpting them right on with a clay brush or inverse masking and "inflating" them out from the rest of the mesh can work great too. Personally I wouldn't recommend just painting this type of stuff in texture since the ingame lighting and specular can really turn out lacking.
Here's my highpoly base for the model above if you're interested:
Beats - axe set came out great!
zaphk - great work on your tusk set, awesome illustration again

@Nikey
I like the silhouette of the weapon. If I had any crits about it, it would be that the nicks in the blades are very uniform on both sides. Almost regular.
Another week, another Dota item. Seriously though, it took me like 4 8-hour days to make this. I need to increase my pace. Vlad would have lapped me 3 times and all 3 would have gotten in.
I hope I don't wake up sober tomorrow and realize this is terrible.

Not sure if that was a compliment
Anyway, i think that if you blow out the barrels end it'll look way better. Kinda like his original weapon. Yeah, i think increasing the barrel size will only help in differentiating from the other guns and will add to the look.
And also, your screen are proving the point i raised about adding the testmap. While it's a great addition, somehow everyone still tries to get the closest possible shot which is redundant because we've got loadout preview. I'd suggest you post the most ordinary camera angle screenshot, i guess the scale issue will be clearer there.
The lenses could use some self-illum too, they'll be clearer in the portrait view
Speed should not be a factor, Frump. How quick you can make something comes naturally with repetition and consistency. Focus on the craft, the technique -- make mistakes, try new things and take as long as it takes for you to make something you're proud of. Speed does not dictate the quality of the artist.
That being said, looks great! I'd suggest making the gold/brass more closely resemble his eyepiece, same with the lenses.
@Frump
I'm inclined to agree with BrontoThunder. The speed will come in due time. Just work on getting it right. That being said, I really like that gun! The yellow on it kinda looks plasticky though...
@Nikey
The new sword is improved over the old one, but for some odd reason, I like the middle of the old blade a little more than the middle of the new one.
Hey guys, I have a problem, suddenly all my items have disappeared from the workshop, I can only see them through my user but , with the search form , ordering by date or anything, is that normal? ever happened to you? (
Submitted! Clicky to get taken to the collection and the two separate items
If those are accepted, and I hope they are, would they be two separate items, or just one item that changes based on the team you're on. I am really hoping for the latter. I think that would fit much much better.
I have the same issue for the HUDs, I don't understand why something that like would act as to, plus it annoys the hell out of me to have the radiant skin as dire and vice versa.
Hey man I know you're not getting much love on Reddit but I think the set would work really well if you didn't bring so much attention to the jester theme. Personally I love the silhouette, back up a bit to make the textures and theme more serious and I think you have my favorite PA set so far.
@konras - dont worry man, you did an awesome job, its that the idea of the championship =]
guys, i would like some feedback on a courier, i never feel confortable with my textures
thanks in advance =]
Your colors are all kind of wrong. While the colors are complement, they're muddy and bleak. The heaviest coloris on top, while it should be on the bottom. First, i'd switch from the complement colors to the triad, second of all i'd crank up the saturation a bit and made some adjustment to the hues.
Nex up is the change to the value distribution, this will add more volume to the model. I did a quick explanation in images. I guess the problem is also in the feel thatthe cat is bald, you may want to add some noise to emulate short fur, if you don't want to sculpt it, and i think you need to bake some more maps, add more AO and push out the shapes.

Reddit what... I didn't add it on Reddit. I don't even use it... or should I say used it as now I should probably explain myself there
Thanks for info Starmony!

Well I was thinking of a new weapon and wanted to use a heroes that still is low on items. Although last month it was used on the unofficial contest I couldn't think of anything that time, but this morning a burned turkey came up as a Ogre Magi weapon:p
Still a rough block out, but what do you guys think of the idea?
I think it's mostly the heads size compared to the body. Try to make it either smaller, or make it go further down and give it a hunchback or something

@Zaphk
*Whistles* Impressive!
Polypainted the rat...
I tried painting my own gradient in this time... Eeeegh... I also tried trusting the old gut a bit more when it came to color selection.
I also think I've come up with a name for this courier:
"Rufentumbl the Red"
I guess retop is next...
Yes please. So much win in this one =D

I agree, except I think the addition of the cloth wrap was a nice touch.
The item is the set Sacred Justice, I can only see it through this link http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=142538945
Concept by DoubleLeaf and model and textureing by me

Nevertheless, they look fantastic!

Illustration/textures/concept were made by Madzia
Very unique look, that came out great! Also, props to Madzia for the illustration, looking exceptional!
might put this Medusa shirt concept up for grabs.
I was wondering if Valve plans to sell the HUD skins or just make them rare drops, anyone knows something about it?
cheers guys keep it up

What do you guys think? Too frilly for invoker's hard corners? :poly124:

Oh man, I've been having the same issue with textures as Vid, that really really helped a lot and of course raised more questions ^^

That wasn't you who posted it? You should check it out in the dota2 subreddit, there's a thread on your set.
Starmony that is not reddit, that is steam. Reddit is a completely other website that some of the polycounters post their set on as well.
Yeah, I just posted the reddit link but didn't realize it went straight to steam instead of going into the thread.
Ah, ok. Well then you should go to the comment section and link that. Then it shows the reddit post instead of what the reddit post links to

Has he left cuddle-monster status yet?

really chubby but still imposing
