You don't really even need that many to get accepted. An item will get in if VALVe appreciates it, regardless of votes. 5-10% is common on votes per view.
Edit: In fact, around 25% of my views came post-acceptance.
Hey guys, I'd like to learn the process for rigging and animating in dota 2 and was wondering if anyone has some really good resources that helped them with any part of the process. I also remember someone streamed their process but can't remember who that user was!? I'm studying animation but need to learn this process!
The thing I'm looking to find out is really just how to get my animation cycles into the game and working (as well as any rigging tutorials that are very relevant to dota 2)
Its because the thumb up thumb down voting system is black and white. Some items I can look at on the workshop and say.. Well I don't think this item is awesome.. but I don't hate it. It's not deserving of a thumb up or thumb down.... so I don't press anything.
They really need a better way.. like a 5 star system which makes it easier for people to rate on a scale rather than on a binary system.
I feel a bit of the same way about green light. I think the rationale is that if its not awesome enough to elicit your thumbs maybe it shouldn't take up valuable shop space - its valves MO I suppose..awesomeness must be agreed upon by a large community to be eligible to join the fold. I think it works less well here then in greenlight or employment opportunities however.
The Workshop is far from perfect, it does a good job of highlighting the most popular items but discourages looking anywhere other than Most Recent and Top Rated this week.
I've rarely seen bad items on the front page and good items entirely overlooked so it's doing a good job in that regard.
Also, for those doing stuff for him. They've changed some of his requirements. Lowed some poly limits but increased the texture sizes, so check your limits again!
Vlad: Looking great man! How did you manage to see the items in-game?
BrontoThunder/DashXero: Thanks! It'll be hard to make the glove, the tri count is too low in the requirements. The original one has 650 triangles and the custom can only have 400 in lod0.
Anuxi: Thaaaanks! Your enchantress is awesome too!
Mdk: The weapon is already finished. And the skirt is part of his body.
And the rest of them are looking really out of place not just in Dota 2, but even on the workshop with the designs being over the top and really unfitting. As one of my friends pointed out "i am slightly worried that these were 'designed' by professionals" and i couldn't agree more.

Oh god. Valve, I know they're your friends but, no, just no, don't even consider adding any of those to the game.
Those items look so bad it even hurts.
that looks really sweet but at the moment i'm reading it as more cute than terrifying. maybe it's a head scale thing.
Hmm, I see what you mean.
It could also be the blobbyness of everything too or a dangerous combination of both. I still have spines, scars, cracks and boils to add so hopefully during this process he becomes something you'd prefer to flee from as opposed to something you'd want to cuddle.
Eh, I don't think so. My Doom sword was accepted like 4 months after I submitted it, my Mirana mount was maybe 2 months after.
I think trying to read into their selection process any further than "The coolest single items from this month" then you're just asking for a headache.

Yeah, I saw the name WETA_workshop as the submitter and I though, 'well, well, they better live up to the name they're stealing...' Then I realized it was actually WETA and cringed so hard T.T Those guys are usually so awesome, but this is pretty subpar

Fair enough, i never really knew there was a monthly thing at all until you said it tbh So they have a monthly chest theme going on?

I'm happy you liked the idea. When you finish the courier you can put my name in the workshop discription :P
I can't want to see how it will look though, cause when I saw the sculpts, the image instantly came to mind and I registered just to post it. Guess my lurkin' days are over.
You got it! I'm glad you posted. Thank you!
Don't worry about not lurking any more. It's a great community. (Just don't engage in the rare, random, minor fits of drama that pop up from time to time, and you'll be golden.)
A little more rat progress. Had to see how these would look...
Wingsuit Variant
Pros: Could save a ton of texture space, rigging this variant would help me figure out how to rig this character in the future. Death could be great!
Cons: There's not much comedy that can fit in an idle aside from the fact that the fat rat has to work his ass off to keep on flapping...
Winged Cheese Variant A
Pros: It incorporates the flying cheese. There's immense potential for comedy, the cheese has great potential as a character in and of itself.
Cons: The physics of this setup breaks my brain!
Winged Cheese Variant B
Pros: Again, good potential for comedy, especially when bursted. Physics of it can make sense...
Cons: Due to in-game camera angle, it might be a little difficult to read the plight of both the rat and the cheese. Rigging and rope Physics potentially problematic (but doable).
Wings 'n Jetpack Variant
I just had to see how this would look...
Winged Cheese Variant C
Pros: Same potential for comedy as the other winged cheese setups. Huge comedic potential in idles, bursted run, and death. Relatively simple to rig and animate. Plight of the characters could read well.
Cons: Drawing a blank...
Any other thoughts? Things to consider? Things to beware of?
@Paskie
Is... Is that a periscope?! That's awesome!
Just make sure to have the mouse trying to get at the cheese with the animations and comedically never being able, because it is suspended from a frickin' winged cheese.

Click and upvote this glorious greatness!

"Horns" finished, only the glove left!
This are the items i found in the schema. They may or may not be added.
That's what I said.
Grats!

Announcers were in the old chests too, one at a time or something like that. They just had a lower chance of dropping from the chest.

Grats on getting into the chest!
Also, I think the timing for the submission is more important factor than we actually think it is.

Even that doesn't hold up, that's the problem T.T

Wip for Skywrath mage set! C&C are very welcome!
When did they add the old keys back to the store?
So I'm guessing the paychecks we got yesterday didn't include those old keys.
I want to do a collaboration since im stomped with concepts pm me if your interested:):)

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I've learned a ton from Polycount so I thought I'd start by saying thanks!
Here is my latest set, submitted a few days ago.
I'm hoping to really just, well, get a lot more stuff done, and make use of this incredible forum for critique and motivation
Thanks again!
I remember reading something somewhere that taunts would be consumables.
Chest items will be revealed next week.
