Ok. Heres my latest project. A big greenhouse. If anyone want to come have a look its here. I think of it a North West of spawn. And if anyone want to come donate glass that be cool. I want to make a complete dome of glass if possible. The sphynx is in this area as well.
Chrissakes, maybe I'm planning for enemies on MP too much and not thinking EPIC enough with my designs on the Cryptic server.
That being said, the "Brick and Bloom" texture pack combined with the HD texture patch is damn nice on the eyes, only downside being the compass is unreadable (but I never use it anyways).
you people might want to avoid straying too far from the spawn and if your stuff isn't really visible on a map render you might want to mark it somehow since the current map will probably be cropped to reduce the load on the server. random exploring does take its toll.
IE: Making them massive? Also, I planted a tree on-top of a tree and it worked once before, but it seems like it's not anymore.
I first thought that each tree seedling was a clone of the mother tree, so I only got the biggest tree's. I was probably wrong... was fun to travel to find large trees though.
Just a heads up, the tree has to be loaded into the ram to grow (so someone has to have it in view)
I just thought to make big trees you just make a big building out of Wood blocks. Then normal trees grow out of that. Is this not the case?. Can you actually grow massive trees.
Had a wander around the map a bit for the first time. I thought what I made was quite big until I found (damn I cant remember whos name was on it now, began with a T), the big tree bonsai sculpture house with the insanely massive mine below it. Awesome.
EDIT: remembered the name. Tores. That castle is pretty damn cool.
Trees grow relative to its surrounding, so if you build something very tall next to your tree it will grow higher. A tree in an open field won't grow very high at all. Check the minecraft wiki, it's on there, and probably in more detail!

So that's why trees keep growing really tall near my castle wall and putting leaves over the roof...
Awesome Hellboy Johnnysix. You might know this and it might not be what your looking for in your character. But you can add noise to the texture in the skin editor menu. I think it breaks up flat colour quite well.
I've been thinking about a fun community project lately.. like the 'Polycount 100' where we - thats you guys - create 100 unique and recognizable skins for Minecraft and we offer it up for download as an entire package.

I'm in. Got a few already. And I'll be making more thats for sure.
Honestly, that program is junk for creating the skin.
I love importing my skin in-progress to preview, so it has its uses. Why would you (already knowing Photoshop very well) jump to such a limited painting/editing toolset though? It makes no sense.
Work in Photoshop, save png, open in skin edit to preview. Make changes back in PS-- win!

Simple: live updates. For me I typically do the bulk of the work in the skin editor, only bringing into photoshop to tweak colors and introduce halftones.

I did figure that Fraps works with Minecraft though.
