Saw a guy at zBrush central who used zBrush to design toys, so I got inspired to try my hands at making a plastic cartoony dude. Rendered in VRay, and comped the fuck out of in Photoshop.
you're doing a great job, i enjoyed tuning into your stream while working on this dude. but if this is the style of the end product, i think you need to re-evaluate the time spent per piece.
when i was watching, you were arduously masking off one of the wood pieces jutting off of an arm or a leg, and not a damn bit of that detail reads in the piece from what you posted, and neither would it at three times the resolution.
it's exactly the same as painting a concept piece at 10,000px for something that is only ever going to show up unmagnified at screen resolution: you are doing very good work, but you could be doing what appears to all the world like the same caliber of work for the fraction of the time cost.
please stop yourself from zooming too far into the model. you know how that shit bakes out, and what never does--don't let yourself get zoomed so far up the model's ass that the detail added to the high resolution model is known only to you and God.
and as the saying goes, the strongest advocate for temperance is the reformed drunk. i love getting in there and doing insane details that don't really make the bake either, but i am trying to respect my own limited life span and time on earth to do art and i hope you do to. your work kicks ass and i want to see more of it, not see you spend weeks on a piece on detail nobody will ever see.
I am sure I could quote the entire thread, I think everyone is doing awesome work though for this page I love these, excellent work both of you!
havent given up on this kid. i WAS doing a tut in modo on him but my motherboard on my laptop died and i cant access those files anymore. Plus i ended up retopologizing like fuckin hell, reuving him, and retexturing him. i was realy unsatisfied with the uv layout and the resolution of certain things. Also his topology wasnt utilized for animation. This is a paint over of some stuff im going to give him to fit him within a certain gamer steampunk theme. gonna start modeling these thangs today.
yessss lookin awesome. can't wait to see the pack and gun all 3d'd
fan-art ;D Damn I wanna play this game so badly...my fingers are aching. Soon....Sooon my child. Im not a creep...i'm not. Ughhhh *mind is blown* What class will you guys be playing? ;D
@eoq Beautiful. How did you manage to get this effect? I'd like to try this out some time myself.
this is a nice rest from gun lineart hell. Relaxing in my own 'style'. Gotta go to work before i can finish this chick
Dylan, loving that, nice clean start.
Daphz, endomi, you guys are magicians.
gauss - you're totally right about my workflow, I tend to pay attention to small stuff instead of the bigger picture. For my next character I'll stop zooming in so far and worrying about tiny stuffs. Thanks for the advice man!
fingus - I like that creature! awesome proportions.
DylanBrady - thanks bro, and nice sketch man, dem hips!
@eoq Beautiful. How did you manage to get this effect? I'd like to try this out some time myself.
It's pretty simple really. Just draw some random strokes with your Lasso-tool (like reallllly draw random shapes!) and then use various of layer settings with different texture brushes. Experiment your way forward - it's a superfun technique to just doodle around with : )
Working on a statue in Zbrush. Kind of got inspired from Skyrim shrines.
Mind, statues (unless made from metal) can't actually stand on their legs; their ankles are too thin, which is why they have a tendency to be standing close to treestumps, holding drapery or having babies humping them. Now if you're really wanting to go for a Bethesda style not knowing how statues actually work is certainly the way to go, but do be warned that it looks fake.

Not to post without actually posting art of my own, here's me attempting a likeness of a famous person:

apparently polycount doesnt display images from dropbox -__-
How did I miss this.So bad ass, is the weapon on his back modeled and textured??????
Uncookedtrout - That Kogmaw looks a tad ripped.Did you model and texture him??
Uncookedtrout: if I were you, I'd flip the UVs of one of his goggle glasses so the highlight comes from one direction. The highlights in the middle are technically possible if the light source isn't to his side, but it looks a bit cheap and careless regardless IMHO.
Been really inspired by the Gears of War characters recently, so i decided to start making something similar. Just blocking out upper body forms at the moment.
homes44- workin on dat gun first mang! Marshal Banana- hahaha i love that art style from psychonauts! thanks man Eight- thanks dude! when i first posted it my dropbox link wasnt working.,, was showin up on my screen but others were telling me there was no image there -__- i fixed it.
alsoooo. that stuff is just a paintover but ive started modeling it out yesterday ^__^
Daphz- thanks!
Daphz, OrganizedChaos, Uncookedtrout- super pro lol arts! Looks all right out of the game! I hope riot is watching ;P
Uncookedtrout - I am interested to know how did you pull him out of game....screen cap?I don't even think you can get that angle of him in-game I believe.Everything is pretty much top down view ya know.
BetelGeist - Gawd bless dude I thought it was 3d.Ppppffffffffk your 2d skills. So nasty.
Hey guys, awhile ago I decided I wanted to model a blade liger from the show "Zoids". I loved that show growing up. This isn't done, I'm still unwrapping it, and making the high poly, also its missing its tail. haha
Nice, do you just use the decimation master to make your low polys? My friends say thats all they do, but I've been wondering if its a common practice.
cross post from my WoW bust thread. just started this texture back up today. need to finish it...adding some particle effects and hair (ugh). oh and lens flairs.
Loving all of the league fan art! amazing stuff all

There's this super distracting tangent on the left... The crack on the ground goes right through the seam between the wood and the metal.
