In photoshop draw any ordered, precise pattern then have rulers enclose an 1:1 area. Crop image and offset to check you have cropped correctly, if not, undo replace guides and crop again. See above link.
For Mudbox simply make a plane grid with 9 squares and enlarge the central square UV section to the whole size of the UV-map. Repeat this with all remaining squares. What you will sculpt on the central square will remain tiled no matter what you do. Bake normal, depth, bump map of your tile, what you want, this way you will have a nice tileable alpha.
Haiasi: You be rocking man! Super: What's all this silly business about alphas? Whip out your slash3 brush and get sculpting dem scales by hand already! Duncan: Thanks man. Lonewolf: That is seriously gorgeous man! Makes me want to do some gun models as well!
Spatz: very great caracter design, between Akuma of naruto and solid snake! :smokin::thumbup: Nick: Awesome! FirstKeeper: beautiful stuff! Razorb: Your works is everytime gorgeous!
For the trunk, i wanted to test the Dynamesh in Z-Brush4, i can tell that it's very nice for create an organic props. I love this new way of creating!
But if I had to choose, I feel like 02, 06, and 17 work really well. They feel pretty solid and I really enjoy the prominent curvy parts in 02 and 06 that break up the silhouette.
So I've been doing mostly high poly lately for class assignments. Still WIPs except the lantern head.
