Aaaaaaaand my little sculpt that was meant to be just a quick little thing is now a finished prop instead. Well, the world can't get enuf of concrete barriers! Next up is a AK47, a Box and the old SD art test :P
OMG thats just so cool. Can you tell me about your workflow for this. I am trying to do a popbot sort of thing and a space ship. Can you tell me about how you did each piece here?
Too be honest I thought I was doing it wrong the entire time I was modeling it.
The topology of the central "box" body is terrible. I should have made it 2 different objects. I notice myself using swift loop, bend, connect(2 segments with a wide pinch), and shell.
I would start off with simple primtives and I would always have a box at bay for me to shift+drag into position to get out general proportions first. Simple geometry with quads then I would go higher poly.
So yea:
Simple block out to get proportions(using quads)>Get in subtractive details(this is when you decide what should be a floater and what shouldn't>Add in supporting edges and fix the topology.
After some long (3 min) intense diliberation with my panel (my brother) here is the finalized clothing silhouette gonna start working on the color scheme now
ps. would be nice to get some crits on the design so far
@Sandro That is looking very nice, is everything hand painted? Because at first glance it looked like concept art, then I saw it was in game and was stunned.
Some more work done on the NGHS contest environment. I think a cubemap will make the floor look really nice once I get the rest of the environment done.
@Sandro- Sexy! Im guessing there's gonna be some cool light to balance things out? @Raiskul-I like the design reminds me of Fullmetal Alchemist, but something see,s a alot off structurally with his body. I can't quite put my finger on it.
Been working on a car, little over 5k in polys. textures are still in progress. Also found a use for the married to the sea post setting in marmo.
Here's a couple of my final images for my Comicon entry:
YES! Awesome bats! Looks amazing, any chance of posting the wires and textures?
I ended up picking up my sculpt from yesterday and put some ears and a symbol on him. But hey, it doesnt even begin to compare to yours afisher! Kick ass job mate.
I also did another quick sketch. I am trying to force myself to do one sculpt a day with an hour and a half as a deadline. That way I force myself to finish something as fast as possible and try to improve as I go along. Im not so happy about mine today but a deal is a deal so here it is:
Anybody has any good tips on how to improve speed and precision while sculpting? Since its my first two days in my sculpting challenge, any tip is more than welcome. Also, what are your opinions regarding the new scultris (alpha 6) I used it for both sculpts and I am quite enjoying it. So it would be nice to hear the opinion of more experienced members here. :poly136:
@biofrost - Not really, just carefully tweaked/colored curvature map to help edges pop more.
@MrHobo - Thank you. Initially I was going to follow concept art more closely (which is pretty much analogous red color scheme for this location) but after your comment thought I'd experiment with complimentary colors a bit more. Think it works better.
Great work Adam! I like that you went with "reasonable" proportions on his musculature. If there really was a Batman, he would't get much use out of a body builder physique. Good luck!
@Sandro- Shiiiiiiiit! Thats some sweet ass contrast. @afisher- The face came out really well on him, which is impressive considering how little space it is on the model. @Rottingbone- Moody, I like it. @LRoy- Sorry it was just a test. Not going to keep that style. Here's one without all the grain. Also I know about the tail lights, I'm moving them around now. Textures are still in flux.
@fewes, You shouldnt really use coloured spec maps, their only real use is for materials such as gold that have coloured highlights, generally most materials dont. The being said, the axe looks quite nice, a little flimsy perhaps, and the wood looks very much like its been literally torn off a tree, but the head looks great.

Its pretty much a variant of this workflow.
Building little scene in UDK based warhammer Bastion stair environment. Turned out harder than I anticipated.

Scuds that conan looks fantastic. That skin is polypainted?
Hobo it's hard to see the textures with that post. The brake lights look a bit strange to me.
I wrote another song today.

Sure, here's the construction and texture shots
Thanks! Really appreciate it! How long did it take you to finish this piece?
Thanks achillesian.
What was your texturing process like? Looks like he's ready for Arkham.
Now I feel hesistant to post my stuff haha.
Thinking of removing the undershirt and replacing it with some type of padding.

Played around a bit with some zbrush materials and bit more work on my doodle head.
@ Shad0wForce: Yes, they made it with a milling machine.
@ Hboybowen: Indeed, it is.
please, tell me you are joking.
