Hey everybody! Brand new to Polycount here and I just have to say everything I saw in this thread just blows my mind. I've got my finished ArenaNet application to show. If it wasn't for the fantastic community here I never would have been able to complete it. It was only my 3rd time using Maya, my first time using ZBrush, first time to do a normal map, really my first time putting everything together.
I learned so much from just this project alone. I think my biggest failing was poor UV layout. Not nearly enough space was awarded to the face and the final product suffered greatly. I'm done with this gobliney guy, but if anybody's got recommendations for me to keep in mind for future projects, bring 'em on!
Josh, my eyes are bleeding from the awesome. Thank-you Rayph, so yeah, Epics about the only word that fits.
cross-post, won't be able to finish commicon so going a different way, Dynamesh is just killing my already weak ability to stop fidling with things and call em done already...
Schebbe @ you little praise whore! But you do deserve it You should hand out here more! You know i love it, any thoughts on making a whole dragon? That would be fucking epic!
Trying to get my 3D focus back.
Though the wood is kind of crap. Anyone know of any good techniques for aligning photosourced textures to stuff (like bending it and whatnot)? It'd be really nice to have a function in photoshop where you converted a layer into a plane mesh complete with vertices and all.
Some gears of war fanart for a DA contest...totally got in waaaaaay to late so this isnt polished to the level I want but ill spruce it up before it goes in my cghub folio.
Here's and update to go along with the awesomeness in this thread.
nice- I liked the first shot, I think it's the best one and third shot is my distant second place. I always love lighting- there's just so many color combinations you can go with this. great work dude-

Transform>Warp pretty much does that. Filter.Liquify too, but it's easy to get messy that way. Also, in your 3d app, you can project different uv layouts around, like a bendy mesh with straight uvs baked to your actual model.

If you have CS5 you can also use the puppet warp tool. It's really, really good for things like realigning and I've found it easier to use than liquefy. Worst part is it's new in CS5.
Been playing around with the new dynamesh in R2, just a few quickies from a sphere
Theres finally a "make my model better" button, and its called Clay polish XD
Maybe I'll make something a little more serious/finished next time ^_^;
@n88tr
cool idea but why does the barrel get wider at the end, that doesn't make sense at all.
and the same goes for the raised up rail, dosnt seem very practical

looking at the gun and you thought it was supposed to be practical?
First attempt at ever painting. I'm trying to develop a style but I feel like I'm cheating with just using the default brush and pen pressure opacity control. Any advice for a complete art beginner?

Now that you mention it he does look alot like Scar. The red eyes don't help either, I might change that.
Torrrtilla: Very nice character, when I first saw the face scrolling down I thought it was Don Quixote.
urgaffel: Syndicate I take it?
Yarp. Seeing all the talk about the Syndicate remake made me want to revisit the original
Without textures
Singin' "Eeeeeyo, where'd my arms go?"
I made a big door by the way.
Here is an update:
