Getting close to wrapping up the texturing. The pose is final. I realized yesterday when posing, that I didn't take into account flexibility when designing.
Caught a snag but I am still determined to finish this piece,
Here is what I came up with from my silhouette pass :
I originally was considering for the character to be a robot himself or be in a suit, I stumbled along the idea of a Big Robot carrying the War General and decided to run with it - Critique is always appreciated, this is my first time making a piece like this
And Here is what I have for the Low Poly Mesh :
(I am planning to post some texture work tonight)
@N-pigeon look up your uv's you got A LOT of holes everywhere man!
you'll loose a lort of resolution. if you use 3dcoat or similars you won't have problems with seams but the spaces are really importants maybe you shoul reduce them the most you can
Still quite a ways to go on the textures, but figured I should post an update since it's in the rules, etc.
All the blood... will probably change it to blue or green before submitting to keep within the "gore to a minimum" rule.
Ithoual: I think it turned out incredible. The colors are very easy on the eyes.
Levus: Yours is so full of character, I like it. : D
Some more progress, needs fixing in several places, and he's getting more colors later, but ehh, it's getting there. The patterns are giving me a headache. Crits welcome!
Hey. I know i'm late to the party but I just had to join in. hope I can finish in time.
Ah I'm glad to see i'm not the only latecomer! Good luck!
I was really excited about the pre challenge until I found out it was going to start a week before my wedding! I just got back from my honeymoon and I've decided to give it a shot anyway. Here's what I've got so far...
I had 3 concepts that I posted before but I saw an old sketch that inspired me to scrap my old ones so I did this new concept over the past few days in my free time.
If you all could be a little less awesome that would help me out, give a guy a break eh?
Seriously though, This thread is above and beyond. gosh. Anyway, mine is starting to actually look like something now, texture is far from done, but now it seems at least possible to finish by the 8th (hurray for extended deadlines) Im thinking of making her cloak black rather than red. It will fit polycounts banner colors better, and will probably just be better looking in general.
its nowhere near the level of some of these pieces, but for my first attempt at hand-painting texture, i'm pretty pleased to be honest.
hi all! everyone's got some ridiculous talent here. I'm truly humbled and inspired by all the professional work going on. here's my up:
Oh, and I'm an uber noob when it comes to rendering and that kind of thing. I've got maya 2011, and i've been trying to find a good solution with mental ray, but alls i'm getting is fuzzy images. are there any tips you awesome guys can share, or maybe point me to some online tuts or walk-thrus? Remember... uber noob here... plz help thx!
Didn't have a terribly productive weekend texture wise.
With 4 days left, I might still be able to get it sorted. See how we go I suppose. I won't be too heart-broken if it's not done in time. The character isn't super suited the comp anyway, so I'm happy enough to just finish it up as a portfolio piece.

There's no extension finally... We must finish our characters before 11.59PM, 6th December.
Hope I'll be able, as I've changed my concept 'cause there was an extension...
Update:
So this will proberly be my last progress submission before the final image.
Good luck to you all and lets hope the trophy goes to the poly peeps :P
@Ithoual: Gratz on finishing this badboy turned out great. @Aimbiz: Thx for your advise tried to apply it. @Bogdanbl4: Flawless transition from concept to model, I'am highly impressed. @spokelset: nice man, loving the feathers. @viv: So much style, this is one of my favourites. @weisheng: very nice, digging the pose.
So much more killer work around polycount is going strong
Totally missed posting those updates
Almost through need to add a glow map and work some details out, Pedestral needs more love too.
Learned quite some things in the process.
Deadline: 11:59 p.m Eastern Time, Wednesday, Dec 8th, 2010
Before proceeding to your team's submissions page, read carefully.
3D and 2D Submissions:
You are allowed to submit one main final image to complete your entry for this challenge. However, as a last minute system addition, you are now able to submit up to "12" extra 1000x1000px wips to demonstrate how you made your entry. These images can be the following:
Step by step progress shots that show the creation of your image from start to finish.
For 3d, you can show wireframes, texture sheets, lighting passes... anything that shows how you made your main final images.
For 2d, you can show your initial idea sketches, color studies, wips, etc.
You may NOT:
3d, show additional final presentation images of your model at different angles. You are only allowed to show "ONE" final image. The extra 12 images are to be used solely for demonstrating the creation of your single main image.
Wanted too write more specificly but I'm too tired.
Okay, calling texturing done. Still some room for changes though.
Got about halfway through skinning and posing. Need to decide about the pedestal, if I'm going to use any.
A first test for the final submission. I'm struggling with the lighting. It's Far from final. It really needs some shadow.
Effects are absolute wip. They will be fixed tomorrow as well as posing.
Another problem I'm trying to figure out is, that I have some strange texture distortions right on the breast armor. The strange thing is that this distortion only occurs in maya. In 3dcoat, where I painted the texture it looks perfectly fine. This issue occurs with exactly the same model. I don't have a clue how to solve this. UV's are the same, texture is the same, I switched triangulation.
A quick question for the ppl using Marmoset for rendering of the final image - Do anybody know if it is allowed to use the "post effects" function - including the"sharpen" effect?
