Thanks everyone. I will change the cloak so that it just heavily thuds on the floor, I like the idea of it being super thick like a floor mat, being more of a burden than a majestic, flowing cape.
Firebat:That's really cool, your character is greatly balanced in colors/details, really pleasant to watch :] .
JFletcher: You character is insane, that's so strong visually! I love it! You are a master of painting!(btw: for me too the cape looks like a matress, but anyway, great job)
Seven: I really like your paiting and colors dude .
Eazy: Nice modeling, it's really dynamic, and you seems to be good at texture painting too, you should use a 60>100% self illum mat, it'll help you a lot and make your texture pop out. (and color your ambiant too it's really helping a lot)
I've made the Pedestal and tweaked a little the overall texture to make it more balanced to watch, it's really hard but I'll continue until the end. I could get a couple of triangle by making the FX with single face rendered as double face, i don't know if it's hallowed. I'll try to make few seals at the bottom of his robe because i feel the robe part is a bit too simple and pop out a little because of that.
Anyway Thx for your support and feedback! it was really rewarding to get so much help : ] .
That looks great man I see your traditional favorite color scheme is in it . I'm begining to think your not a fan of rigging, doo eeeet make him do something he wants it sooo bad. He does look pretty stellar and clueless in his current pose which isnt bad either.
@ Ithoual - That looks marvelous man! Mind if I ask how you are painting your textures? Photoshop or some type of projection like bodypaint? Thanks! Gl
Noth : Thx ! Actually i use Photoshop mainly and Bodypaint to make the anatomy parts , and the precise details that are hard to make with the UV deformations. For example, perfect circle or small geometric draws on the armor, when the deformation is too hard for me to compensate in painting. Anyway i usually just make a rough in Bodypain and finish in photoshop. :] I don't know Bodypaint well, i just know how to import/paint/export, maybe if i knew it better I'd use it more.

Hmm, do you mean, whether or not it's allowed to let flat faces simply be rendered as two-sided, instead of using a separate back and front face? Because I'm wondering this, myself.
Someone asked in the QA thread and they said that double-sided tris count once. IE, a sheet made of 2 tris counts as 2 tris whether you render both sides or not.
great work ithoual- I really like your entry. Your material work is impressive. But on top of that I'm impressed about your polycount. your are 1000 under the budget and it looks just damn great. That means if I'm not mistaken, polybudget is 3000 right? If not I have a serious problem.
Awesome work everyone. I've come this far but I am really struggling on the last 10%.
I just don't know what to do with it. I know it's not good enough but I can't put my finger on one definitive thing I should do to fix it. I feel like I'm just not experienced enough to know the nice brush or painting techniques other people are using to get the nice looks everyone else is getting.
@Sp0kelset: Looks promising though I think the colours are a bit too neutral. Needs more ambiene of some sort. Perhaps make everything have a cool or a warm basetone.
@Ocarian: I like it, specially the head. The polycount logo piece feels a bit off though as everything else has sharp shading while it is very soft.
I know im freakin late to the party but here is something superspeedy
Just rapid prototyping.
Inittially i wanted to do a halfdragon/halfman kind of thing.
but i guess it just turned out to be a corrupted dragon kind of thing
I try to give him alot of bird like anatomy. Make him really light with very strong breast and shoulder muscles. Basically i try to construct something that would be able to fly unlike most of the dragons. Thats also why the tail is shaped like that.
The head should resemble serpent features to give a little twist to the whole thing.
While i just started modeling, my gf actually passed by and asked why im modelling a starved chicken
I don't have time today to make some feedback on each work I see (and I'm sorry and I'll take time later), but everyone have make really interesting piece!
Almost finished with the texture, still keep a small time extension to polish it.
Now it's time for a lil pedestal and rig/skin for a cool posing.
I'm hesitating on the "skirt" color... So far, I get kinda blind from working on it.
Let me know what are you thinking guys, I think go with the left one.
@madmuffin- your colors feel a bit slapped on and random. Pick a color scheme where the colors will work together. Use some compliments. Check out like...fletchers or something and look at his palette!
Hey guys, thought it might help some of you that might be picking up Marmoset for the first time. Its an awesome program and I don't know half the things it does. I am in NO WAY and expert, I just thought this might help.
thanks for the video lewis. very helpful. I've seen some of my friends using it for their projects at school but I hadn't thought much of it. Gonna buy this when I can.
alemja - thanks. onelunglewis - that looks pretty sweet, I'll definitely try it out when I get a change. madmuffin - One thing I would suggest would be to add some ambient occlusion to define the shapes more. and perhaps balance the contrast on your textures. The skin around the feet is very light while the shackles have seriously high contrast and there seems to many variations of colors, try creating a color scheme then tackling the textures again.
Thanks for comments, yes AimBiZ I knew there was something boring with the colours, will have a go with what you said.
Also: nice model, would perhaps do with some blue veins?
@Bogdanbl4: awesome! @onelunglewis: nice effects, also thanks for tutorial @JFletcher: great textures, I like the colors @Ithoual: good job, i like the way you paint armor
I've made hp model and baked AO from it to lowpoly:
LP model is 2933 triangles, so I have some place for effects
@b1ll I idolise your work in every way, thank you so much @Bogdanbl4 breath taking! @armians loving it @Levus very clean. i LOVE clean sculpts @JFletcher the way you approach surfaces is dayum sex'c, hooooge fan @Ithoual great design and execution @ocarian nice forms so far, can't wait to see it finished @AimBiZ liking the color scheme loads'n heaps'n lots @Arkhange slick design, i'd agree with the left one, breaks up the tan colors nicely @onelunglewis very stylish character, great work
@weisheng -- awesome work! are the effects around the eye areas painted on the face or on cards? when camera distortion happens on bright lights the streaks tend to go to the same side. I'd also love to see them trail over the hood a little bit so the face is planted more. i'd also love to see the bandages on his arms pushed just a little more. there are some areas where they start to blend in to each other. fantastic pose ... seriously nice work!
@bogdan: you truly know your shizzle @arkhange: i'd go with the left one, definitely @weisheng: that's a really cool character! what's there not to like.
I missed quite a bit here. So much stuff posted. I had a bit of a workload so i couldn't progress on my texturing as much as i would've wanted but will finish in time no problem!
I'm not sure about the shark eyes, but i felt like she needed a bit more 'evil' there. Working forward on the shoulders, trying out a few things on the 'should be poison spewing' top part before moving on.

@ Seven, Very cool, I love the warm colours!
JFletcher: One of the best work here. As I said before you have great textures craftsmanship.
Up (this time render, without flat):
Basic test to see how it looks in Marmoset, because Maya's viewport is acting up. Too bad the texturing is shite.

Great work as usual,
Your fanclub-
@Bogdanbl4 WOW! Amazing
@murph Great texturing, love your work!
@JFletcher Your artistic painted textures are impressive
@weisheng interesting character ) Why bad?
@Firebat like colors and accents on texture. good job!

Anyone know?
wow there's some awesome stuff in here haha.
Did some work on mine, here it is, really going to have to crunch in order to get 'er done!
Do you mind posting your wires again?
Some progress on texturing, symbol on his legs will not be in final.
Like what I'm seeing in the thread. It's nice stuff and keeps one motivated.
New up

Moar experimenting. Gotta turn up the pace.

@fletcher, bogdan
just amazing! wow...
@Firebat
very nice. a bit too much black i think. It would be nice to see whats going on in some areas but thats a really really minor crit.

Slave_zero : Actually i think it was 2940, hehe i was distracted when i wrote that :].
Arkhange : Left too, i prefert the rythme of your overall colors on this one! Nice job !!!

Q:
How much is allowed in therms of "added" effects ? Can we do stuff like "god rays", "realtime AO" and lensflares for this competition?
THIS IS FANTASTIC! NEED MOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@arkhange: i'd go with the left one, definitely
