@rico: You could save time & resolution with a symmetric uvs, and be careful you almost reach the 3000 goal polycount, my suggest is to set up all volum first with basic forme and after that upgrade the mesh, kepp it up ! @ocarian: hey, nice!!! maybe a posing dynamized could put your character a bit more expressive )
@ishii I think the general rule is as few photoshopping as possible, otherwise people get angry. If its subtle enough not to be noticed then I see no harm in it. I rendered this pass in Marmoset, and I tweaked some stuff in post. Actually I do think the changes I did were quite noticeable so don't what I did.
@rico271 Nice texturework so far. Are you going to add gas/electricky joints? You have enough tris to spare. Also I'm curious why you drew texture symmetry. Since you don't have perfect symmetry (unlike mine) you can really abuse asymmetrical designs and stuff.
Heres my last texturing update before the submission. Still a lot of tweaking to do, so if you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Mainly, I'm debating the colors, they seem a bit off.
WOW! lots of cool stuff here.
Almost done with the modeling. I will have to finish my mesh tonight so I can have at least 1 day for texturing. that sounds insane. Wish me luck.
Here is one of my last previews before final image. hope you like it. I'm maybe posting the pose once its done. good luck to all. It's been a pleasure to see the creative work on these pages
anyway here is a bit more concept sculpting. Not to crazy about handpainting this one tbh i might just turn this into a fullblown sculpt since i kinda like the feel of it
triceps is pretty off hehe, more focusing on overall flow and proportions. There will be additional "fingers" holding the wings ofc.
updated textures and increased multiphasic resonance!
rico271 : is coming along nicely ! I like the shading and texturing on the torso but the legs seem flat in comparison , what about making them have a raised edge down the middle like the hexagon armor plat just below them . I think seeing that type of shading on the legs as well would help them resemble the other peices more. ^_^ greentooth looks cool like that like a ferocious happy emoticon, hehe.
Wharkk : new update is so cool , loving the material treatment . Shield looks super nice ! , would like to see that level of polish on the boots and neck area as well.
I don't think it will be. I'm pretty sure they're not going to come back and announce the original deadline is sill in place after a temporary suspension, and then have half the participants not be able to enter because they, rightly, didn't expect it. So yeah, take your time I guess.
Pretty crappy news isnt it? Big ups to Emil tho, we wouldnt have noticed otherwise...
Well Im just going to keep chugging along...and hope this all gets straightened out soon...
Am moving onto the painting now...going to start with a details sketch, then greyscale, then color glazing and finally painting in the shads, mids and highs...
Im so far behind...oh and final polycount is 2999, hehe...
don't know if i have time to finish this, got swedish test on wednesday.
spent whole day trying to get transparency work, first in udk then got it somewhat working in marmoset (what a little wonder engine, might just buy it), can't get her glasses to look properly through though, eventhough I tweak the alpha texture...
(also placeholder pedestal)
Levus - Great sculpt and transition to the low model - I must say I don't fully agree on the colour choices. Think it would have "popped out" more if you had limited yourself to 2-3 main colours and no pink . Dig the model though
Update:
Post pwn eh? Well guess not much we can do but hope it gets resolved quickly.
It came to my attention that my monitor at home is much brighter then the avarage screen. When watching my model on a different monitor the dark areas was completly black and way off. So I lightened the overall texture quite a bit and hopefully it fixed the contrast issue.
A quick progress shot, I am pretty much done with the texture - still need some fixes and a pedestal. I fellow student and friend of mine came up with the idea of an animal skin cape which I felt fitted the character.
I love that ishii! The texture work looks amazing!
Started working on my final presentation, see how it will all look once it's together. I'm not completely happy with the pose, still working on that. I also need to paint a bit more lighting into my texture and fix up the skin areas.
@faf : Cool model, I really dig the proportions. My only crit go for the folds on the butt who seams a bit weird actually (looks like wrinkles), maybe just remove few folds here and there. @JacqueChoi : Really clean work as usual man !
It's purely personal, but I found that the details on the mantle (around the polycount logo) don't really fit with the rest, maybe just aerate a bit this part... just my 2 cents. It's still brilliant work anyway @Ishii : I really like your texture work mister ! Really cool render, I'm waiting to see your final ! @Levus : I agree with Ishii on the color choice, there are too many right now. I always try to keep a ratio like : 60% of main color, 30% of secondary and 10% of tertiary color. It's just percentage, of course you can use more colors here and there, but personally I just try to stick to this rule for the main colors.
Your lowpoly looks really great and the bake seams really clean !
I really dig the work on the face so far, cool cartoon style ! Great job.
Took me long enough to get off my arse and finish this contest. It's definitely not top-tier stuff (granted I don't think I have the experience to put that out anyway) but I did finish, so I suppose that's something. Lessons learned: Cylinders are mean to your UV space, hard surface detail is "interesting" to hand paint.
It's been fun to see all of the different designs to come out of this forum, and I wish everyone the best of luck.
@ishii, Arkhange, lampekap
Very thanks for your feedback, much appreciate! I will be working on color theme tonight, I have a lot of similiar oppinion, so I need to fix this. Thx!
I'll be surprised if this mini-challenge re-open, but anyway, let's finish what we start :]
muchas fun art here, congrate faf, jacqueChoi, ishii ( I love the idea of animal cape), fresh style and great technique !
here is an other presentation, with the character standing up, most understandable i think, critics & comment are welcome ! :]
Viv: It's looking real good, u have done a good job at making the character come alive in the pose. Also, love the smile he has
illusion: Great to see your work complete. Awesome little fella
ishi: animal cape made it more interesting. great work on that. It's looking great.
skylebones: Looking good. And as u said, a different pose would be nice. Perhaps one that is more dynamic. Think about what kind of emotion u want to express with the character or just make a cool pose.

Not much time to work on my entry but here it is an update on where I'm at for now.
Keep up the good work everybody.

Drama commencing.
In other news, I'm DONE:
I guess I'll put my finals together and just wait for word.
Having said that I myself might not be able to finish mine in time for the deadline. I'll still try and finish it though.

To do: finish the boots and other details, rig and pose, model a base.
Edit - Omgawd, just saw DW has been suspended...
Anyone know if the deadline is still in effect?

@thiel_joe: mysterious with a great style, one of my favorite, congratz! it is possible to see some wire ?:)
Oh well. Here's my minor update:
Got plenty of changes coming, as the Mighty B1ll gave me a solid paintover and I might receive a ninja-punch to my gonads if I don't do them.
here's my update:
just working on a few finishing touches, wish I had a little more time xD
Edit- working on hes fur, still looks like shit.
JacqueChoi - Hats off to you sir

C&C are welcome for colors and for everything else.
Now we wait. Regardless, I have a portfolio piece that I didn't have 2.5 weeks ago, so keen!
