Ok, seriously, I need to move onto the hard surfaces or im gonna have to turn this dude into a floating nightmare! lol
Oh and the smooth, kind of non sculpted pieces will be covered by other polys...so I didnt work em. his belts, which didnt work, will be kind of smoke, or someting, not sure, am making it up as I go...oh! Souls! He can be surrounded by souls he's captured...perfect
@SpeCter: oh man that really sucks. You know there are some softwares that can bring it back. Maybe you should try some? Hopefully someone has a bit more in-depth info on this.
Unfortunately i can´t do something else, because this is where i installed my stuff and before i got at least my important data back(Bought tutorials which i can´t download anymore, Model files and stuff) i can´t install something else. Remodelling my little fella is one of the unimportant stuff, i can do that in one day, but losing the rest would be bad
Hello all! I'm really impressed by all the great work posted up here! I just heard about Pre_DW early this week, so here's what I've got so far:
Concept Stuff:
Finished (?) Model
I'm working on a Shadow character. My guy is a synthetic alien construct, powered by an inner fusion reactor. He can produce electromagnetic fields to control metallic objects around him, as seen by his various sword blades floating behind his back. Depending on the situation, he can attach a different blade to his forearm and adapt to whatever opponent he is facing.
I'd really appreciate any comments/advice. Thanks so much!
So, a crazy person would start now with the intent of going full force for the next week right? Well I need something to do in my free time for the next week so...yeah.
@MattQ86: I'd say B if i had to choose! The waist needs some form, like a belt or something! Otherwise it's pretty straight vertically.
@kirian: Good work dude but somehow i feel like one of the first color sets was better than this. This last one is a bit "little this and little that" and a bit boring. Hard to explain but i hope you get my draft. One thing is that the lower part doesn't match with his upper half. Also think about what sections of your character you want the viewer to focus on? If you nail this it's gonna be one helluva char! Keep it up!
hello polycounters :]
been lurking here for a while now.
Watching polycount wips, technical talks and of course "Thread of Awesomeness, Hilariousness, Youtube" (XD) had become everyday activity of mine now.. and so i decided that joining polycount team in DomWar challenge would be a good opportunity to introduce myself here x]
and that's what i have so far:
it's a technomage (well at least it should become one in the end)
I'm kinda of the schedule right now, but reaaallyy hoping to find some free time before the deadline...
Nice stuff coming in Darn its cold here at the office....in Sweden...so much snow.
JFletcher: LOVE the texturing and the character. I'm also impressed by the uv-unfolding. Nicely compressed.
Sirdelita: Looking good. One thing I think you could improve is to break up the big texture shapes and create some secondary and tertiary patterns just to make the cloth a bit more interesting. But I think it is coming along nicely. kirian: Looking good. I'd like to see the shoulder pad increased in size by 30% or more. II feel it could make the character look more buff and powerful. Also i think it could create a better rhythm along the arm as I have indicated with the green line.
And here is a WIP on my character. Started texturing a couple hours ago using 3d-coat (absolutely love the program). Blocked in the upper body colors. Still got the legs and the arms to go. But now I think it is time for me to take the snowy road home *_* Keep up the great work warriors of polycount!
Well this is my update, kind of struggling at this point, you guys all make it look so easy. Are there any tips or tricks anyone can offer a fellow polycounter as for programs or whatnot to use for painting details in? I've been trying to use the Viewport canvas tool in Max but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I want/ need.
Anyways, anything would be great, you guys all rock
Thanks!
I'm new here and this is my first 3d-challenge. I'm doing a technomage, who is using electricity. model is finished for now and I'm starting unwrapping. Still have 21 tris left though.
After seeing murph's vid. I decided to have a go of this 3DCoat lark. Downloaded the 30day trial. I had quite a bit of trouble with it tbh. Navitgating will take a bit of getting used to with the wacom. Painting seems quite laggy even in a very simple scene (DX version)(2k poly model and 2k texture) and I had tons of trouble with the Layers. They seem a bit buggy. Layers wont go invisible when i want them too. etc. Also found that when I export the textures then bring into Maya the textures had moved slightly in places so it doesnt look like it does in 3d coat. Anyway. I'll stick with it and get the base stuff done then tweak it in PS.
Also. I decided to redo my UV's. I've mirrored most things now.
Some basic color layout and forms. I also did a first pass on shading but this will only be used for overlaying and basic lighting. Starting with painting materials and details this night.
I couldn´t restore my files, but i learned to backup my files to another partition now), Nevertheless I´m back in the game
Changed his walker legs a bit(i hope for the better).Still got to add the hands and little stuff, but at least i think i´ll make it in time.
Enough talk more art, please comment on the new legs
@JFletcher&Murph: Damn guys thats absolutely awesome, i wish i could handpaint like that.:)
So halfway through the the first texture phase I decided to redo my model/concept a bit since I wasen't completly happy about how the character was turning out.
Just finished the new model (it's on 3000 tris) and moving on to the uv's.
Let me know what you think of the new design vs the old one
Are people doing their textures at higher resolution and scaling it down/sharpening for final or do you work at 100%? If you scale it down, what resolution is good to work at?

Unfortunately have to remodel my Goblin, i hope i will make it in time
http://www.google.fi/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=bringing+back+deleted+partition was the first thing that came in mind.
Think I'm ready to pose this homeskillet!
Looking great everyone!
(edit: image removed)
Almost there..ish.
@ Specter, sorry to hear about that Hope you can recover it.
edit:
Done for tonight, should hopefully get the rest done tomorrow or the day after, then some polish, didn't wanna post 2 pics on one page so here:
loving the work you all posted so far
here's my concept...still not sure what to do with his back but i'll figure that out in 3d i think.
Update: "Dont you just hate it when you don't get enough resolution around your nipples"
I'm not sure that giving everything unique texture space was a wise choice. But I'll stick with it.
Very very quick colour test. Just working out the best workflow, etc. This is ZB polypaint then photoshop.
As for crits; since he's got a bulky body the breast muscles(pectoralis) would cover the clavicles like this:
http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/242833/242833,1248120712,2/stock-photo-male-body-builder-torso-abdominal-muscle-34122808.jpg
At least those light lines above the pectos reads as lavicle bones to me.
thanks for support Guys:**

More boxer shit, needs more style. And more tattoos. Also top hat? or Crop top?
@JFletcher: Your diffuse is out of this world man, keep it up. Tons of personality to boot
@Murph: Loving the warmth of the skin
@Homes44: Killer silhouette and concept, digging the painterly feel of the diffuse already
@mutilatedjellyfish: I like how sharp some of the brushstrokes in your texture are
Way behind on this one , but here are the wires nonetheless
~2980 tris
i made another little video, i put it up on the lunch crunch blog:

Rigging this low poly stuff is MUCH easier lol!
Jfletch, awesome as allways
Long time no posting, but still wish to finish, my hp is done

Time for texturing. (yay)
you're going to sell more copies of 3d coat than their marketing department.
- So, here... This is my concept for my version of War General.
Good work and good luck to everyone.
Also. I decided to redo my UV's. I've mirrored most things now.

@scurmworks: Thanks, I've had a look at those shoulders fixed them - I hope! :P
Once more, progress!
He's a bit too shiny in places right now, especially on the chest.
and just in case, here's the wireframe.
Anybody know of any good Mudbox painting tuts?
Still plugging away at it. It seems like I have an endless to-do list.
