That's why the show fails, 90% soap opera and 10% zombies ... should be the other way around. About people trying to survive not people having crappy arguments (yes, yes I know that's how things might actually play out but we have other soaps for that crap).
I tried replying with an essay, but words really can't describe how wrong you are.
i love this show but cant stop thinking how much more fun it would be if there would be "special infected" like in Valves Left 4 Dead series, some mutated ones with special abilities, imagine that

It's amazing that they could make me feel so bad for Jim after only essentially one episode of character building. The actor that plays his is doing a great job.
This reminds me of how long it's been since I read the comic, I confused Jim with Allen.
Raise your hand if you think the CDC scientist is going to try to infect somebody to replace the fresh samples he lost? "for the greater good" and all that.
Was one of my favorite episodes too. Were no disappointments anywhere in it for me compared to a few of the other episodes. Can't wait for the final episode!
Best show ever!! I even like it better than Dexter.
I am wondering though, what's gonna happen with Merle (I think that's his name, the rednecks brother anyway)? Also, are we gonna revisit the guy and his son from the first episode?
Love the fact that they set up the redneck to come back and kill the people at the camp, but instead had the dead do it. I did get a little worried about the show when the gangstas showed up. That shit is so tired, and played out, I can't stand it. But luckily it didn't last, so yay.
And I love that they're showing people dealing with the apocalypse, as opposed to just run and gun action the whole time. I'm pretty tired of mindless, characterless TV, or overwrought bullshit, so I'm happy with the way they're treating it, and US the viewing audience. It's not lame like another Doctor, or Cop drama, and it's not insultingly stupid like reality tv, or brainless action flicks. It's a breath of fresh air from tv, which is such a rare thing, I can't think of it ever happening before.
Any news on when the next season will start? PLEASE say it's not like Dexter, where we have to wait an entire year before we get to see new episodes.

Really liked this last episode, one of my favorite ones so far.
Is Shane starting to break down mentally? Or was he just pissed off with Rick when he had his shotgun pointing at him?
Love this show, and this episode was just as good as the others.
I seriously thought Laurie's sister was going to turn, and bite her at any moment during the first part of the episode. So much tension just from expecting to see her all of a sudden raise up, but the way they handled it was much more emotional (although incredibly stupid on Lauries part).
ok so biff from CDC is going to inject Andrea next week to get 'fresh' skin to work with since he just burned up all the samples last night... poop I hate being able to see this shit before hand.
really? i would think that maybe he would try to convince them to go back and get whats his face that they left behind by the tree for testing. i doubt that thats the last time we will see him, i think he still has a part to play.
17 minute behind the scenes documentary. Pretty cool stuff. Atlanta SWAT was called on set during the rooftop filming when Merle was sniping zombies. HA!
i want the black dude and his kid back (from the first ep). also, i really like Darrel as a character, i think he's really cool. he's like the anti-hero of the group, knows what has to be done, bit of a douchebag, but still goes along with "the good idea".
I don't understand, how do people want the show to "pick up the pace"? As in action, as in they move from camp to camp more often, or something else? Honestly, I would just like to know what people think would make it "less boring" during certain episodes.
Maybe this is a good thing....the show has been painfully slow all season. It's a great show, but it could be even better if they picked up the pace.
"Out of the six episodes that will make up the first season of The Walking Dead, Darabont ended up writing two himself, while also co-writing/rewriting the remaining four."
They're following the UK television formula which AMC did on Torchwood. Has nothing to do with being dissappointed in the writing.
This. Also that article said that Frank wrote/rewrote most of it himself, so what's the point of paying a writing team if whatever they write gets rewritten 90% of the time.
Hopefully they can retain the same quality when they're writing 13 episodes instead of 6.

If you ask me, I wouldn't be surprised if the writing team didn't 'get it'.
I literately sat down and watched all five episodes last night so I could get caught up in time for the sixth. Absolutely fantastic show. It's been a long time since a zombie film was done right: It's not about the zombies, it's about those surviving. Once you've seen one of the walking dead, you've seen them all. The real chewy center of these stories is the interaction between the survivors, and how they cooperate, or fail to cooperate, in the post-apocalyptic.
While some of the characters feel like they're thinly written, the actors have done an amazing job at bringing the emotions you'd expect to see in such a stressful existence. Even the kid actors in this show are the first in years that haven't made me want to break the screen.
After working on a zombie mod for five years, I got tired of zombies. Real tired. I think this show has reignited that passion for better or worse.

Actually feeling the same, have had so much left4dead 1 & 2, and several other games, all with a million zombies in them and so much firepower, got a bit uninterested in it after a while.
But now I want something new.
Maybe it's time for the character-centered zombie-rpgs to get the spotlight? :P

Glad I was wrong, TV has rarely surprised me glad I was wrong made the show that much more enjoyable. Wish more TV was like that.
Would've been nice to have had (more than 3) zombies in the season finale. And good VFX. And no Star Trek computer.
At least the computer is dead now and they won't be hiding in there any longer than 1 episode
Unless of course they find another one, which would be lame and boring, so hopefully that won't happen
I posted this on the front page, thought I should probably post it here in case people miss it. FXGuide.com posted some of Stargate Studios before and after shots along with some interesting text.
EDIT oops looks like luke beat me to it. That's what I get for not watching last nights episode and not wanting to read the thread...
so far it hasn't been bad. hope s2 is better than what was here though. given the comics own rough start, there were a lot of times where they improved on what was there, can't agree with the direction they took in the last 2 episodes though. someone mentioned the dramatic tension of what's happened to the rest of the world been lifted, especially mentioning what's happened to other countries.
also weird how they missed out on what was an incredibly important moment at the end of the first big arc in the comic, (itll no doubt happen later.) cause it served as some important foreshadowing for what the survivors were going to have to fear the most. also, too fucking soapy, stop crying so much and hugging the fucking zombies
that being said, it can be its own beast separate from the comic. hope it works out in the longer run.

No way, can't knock dexter off #1 that easily!
have to wait a entire year for breaking bad as well

now you gotta eat your shoe. >[
Can't beleive we have to wait nearly a calendar year for the next show.
SO many loose ends created in 6 episodes.
The Black kid and his father, Merle, The Helicopter Rick saw, The potential cure...
I'm hoping a bit that this doesn't turn into another 'Lost' and actually ties up some loose ends.
Really didn't enjoy that last episode :P
