What I meant to say is it looks like he's just throwing in a bullet. Not sure if you'd be able to tell it's actually a speed loader ingame if you'd never read this thread.
I think anyone looking closely would see it, especially once it's textured, and especially once they considered that the speed loader is as wide as the whole chamber of the gun, they show regular sized bullets in-scale, and the gun is fully loaded once he throws it away.
oobersli, have you ever heard of the LeMat? Like your Big Tex, it's a revolver with 9 chambers, but due to the huge space available in the center of the cylinder, it revolves around a second, smoothbore (eg shotgun) barrel instead of a pin.
Also, I think the model could use a catch on top of the cylinder so it doesn't look like it's just sitting loose. Just a small switch locking it to the frame. When the Engineer reloads, his hand can push it back to release it.
Anyway, just putting it out there. Good work, and I look forward to seeing your stuff in the update!
just saw the new TF2 mac trailer,
and noticed this rather interesting addition to the Engie's shotgun, maybe it's been there all along but I never noticed before and imeadiately thought you already got your's in-game officially
so i'm thinking for the pda I'm going to replace it with a mechanical/extendable arm to help the engie "build" his stuff. it wouldn't actually do anything, just a visual swap. The arm and joystick are just a blockout atm, i'd give it a fancy claw.
This way I can keep it in theme with the rest of my stuff and call it the "Big Hand"??
You could put a giant satellite dish thing on that telescoping arm.
You could call it SETI (pun on the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence, which is a bunch of satellite dish things listening for transmissions) and have it stand for -

Maybe call it a "Big Ol' Helping Hand" instead of just "Big Hand" it just seems a bit more lofty and you'd be able to throw in some Texan vernacular like Helpin' or something.
still working with some designs. gotten a tad busy lately, so haven't had as much time to work on it much lately. Probably try and make a big push to do some texture polish to current stuff and finish up the pda. trying to see how I can put a small dish on it without it looking weird in first person.
For Big Tex, I'd have him flip it open and unload the spent cartridges in a one-two motion with the right hand by itself, and as it's turning back from emptying the shells out the left hand puts in the bullets immediately after which the right hand would flick the chamber closed. I'd skip the tossing of the empty speed loader altogether, just have him drop it as he puts his left hand back on the butt of the handle.
recently gotten pretty busy at work and wedding planning :poly142: so i'm just addding a bit of polish to the textures and some new AO bakes, but nothing major. once I get home I'll try and post up a comp page of all the weapons. I'll be glad once this is over and I can get this comp out of my head.
Thanks guys, appreciate all the help and comments I've gotten through the process of this. Thanks to Karkasmolenklok for throwing the "big tex" name out there for me and thanks to twigbag on help with the bmmh! Also thanks to Psyke for working on some kill icons for me as well. :poly136: I think spark did most of the animations, but in case he doesn't submit them i've setup the weapons to basically fit their replacements without much clipping or other chaos.
Even if my stuff doesn't get in, I'm just happy i've got some finished art to put in the ole` portfolio.
sucks i didn't get in. I've got some side projects i'm doing *like the ghostbuster TF2 theme* but I'm going to start concepting designs for a sentry that would fit in my "bigger is better" theme.
Actually surprised that with the Engi update he didn't have a single weapon that used metal for ammo...
When using The Wrangler you have to put metal into the sentry for ammo and rockets.
Anyway as Kthon said, it's not over. Apparently they'll be picking more winners sometime. Also there's a pretty good chance your items will be put in a community update if they aren't chosen for the second wave of winners.
They revealed half (as close to half of 9 as you can get) of the classes. There are still 4 classes with submissions that stand out. (like yours and swizzle's)
Valve can't neglect the best submissions. In short, yea I think your in.
I'm not overly keen of the rubber mallet idea, but the sheer awesomeness of the other two more than make up for it. Definitely my favourite Engineer pack, well done.

replaces the shotgun, pistol, and wrench.
Comes with lawn chair and lemonade.

Are all the previous animations final?
