IMO, the barrels need a warmer shade of grey, and the rest of the metals could be a bit cleaner. The engie seems to be a very clean-cut kind of guy, and not one to let his firearms get dirty (a wrench, maybe, but a gun and a wrench are very different).
i'm tweaking the base colors before I add any detail brush strokes, so I'll see if warmer looks any better.
I finally remembered to import the engy model in so I can show some scale of how big my stuff is. For now heres him with the big bang. it fits in his hand perfectly, but I might scale the handle and belt clip down a tad.
@contrails, theres a huge hunk of rubber missing on the other side. From the engys PoV you'll see both of the slices on the left side and the chunk missing on the right to help give it a unique silohette. I had thought of giving it a ton of slices, but I thought that would go against the style and be too busy.
You should make the shotgun clean and only have grunge around the middle area where oil and grease might have leaked out of the constructed parts.
I know your theme is BIG but that mallet looks a tad TOO big which gives it too much of a cartoony feel. I'd like to see the size toned down slightly. It's looking awesome though. You said you might scale the handle and clip down. The handle seems fine, I vote for scaling the mallet head and clip down a tad.

I agree, it looks cool but a bit too much like something Wile E Coyote would use.
My concern is that the idle wrench animation when the engineer is patting the head of the wrench softly in the palm of his hand, the large hammer head might have clipping errors, unless you angle it in the engineer's hand.
I think the hammer's fine. Consider that the engie's wrench is a bit oversized itself, and that mallets are pretty big in general. I think what might be giving it the cartoon feel is the texture/shading of the mallet head. It looks too rubbery, like a cartoon mallet. If it's possible, try making it shinier and more metallic.
I do not have a problem with its size, but I also wouldn't have a problem with it being slightly smaller.
Considering the name, big fits. It also fits with the cartoonish proportions of Team Fortress (note that the heavy's hands are bigger than his head, and with gloves are bigger than most class's whole torso)
i'll post up a pic in the morning of the slightly scaled down version. The mallet head is actually rubber, so thats the effect I'm going for. I thought it would be funny if the head wobbled slightly when it crit someone.
Also, these shots are from the viewport of max, so when I get done with all the texturing I plan to venture back into "getting shit into engine" adventure. Last time I got my american hat in game I wanted to punch a puppy in the face being so frustrated. If anyone has an awesome and easy way of getting stuff into game I'd give you absolutely nothing but an empty promise of a huge amount of cash.
I'm not really a fan of teamcolor based weapons. almost all of the weapons in TF2 dont have team color on them and are neutral except for the engineer buildings /the pyro weapons and the medic weapons.
ya I'm not a fan either, but it was brought to my attention that if i'm going for something that has peices or tech ripped from his dispenser then it should probably resemble it in color as well. I was going to add some logos for each team underneath the tube that feeds into the pressure tank. Of course I could just forget it and go with the original neutral color I had planned.
I like the team color idea a lot. I would just get it to closer resemble the dispenser colors. Idk if you got it already, and it is just a thing with lighting and AO baking. Looks good tho.
i'm hoping I can get some help with getting some animation and jiggle bones setup. I would love to have the door jiggle a bit. As for the colors, I used the color pallete they provided, so it should be spot on with tf2 colors. It probably just looks weird since I'm using a viewport shader and the lighting isn't spot on with tf2.
Do remember that this logo is going to be tiny and on the side of the tiniest TF2 character's shotgun, so unless your resolution is friggin' magnificent the only place you'll be "reading" that is on the "you just found the Big Mean Mother Hubbard" screen
I feel it should be like this, the view model looks imperfect when inspecting this point, it could be the difference between you winning and losing imo.
EDIT: You'll kill me for saying this, but I think you should go back to the drawing board with the hammer.
Looks too much like a non-sense FPSbanana job

good call. Something small like that usually slips past me. excuse the lack of correct ao on the right one. but i lowered the metal peice to allow the back of the barrel show more. It has a smoother more narrow look to it now.
As for the mallet, I have other ideas of melee items that could replace the wrench with some function still, but i'll only explore them if I get enough time.. and even then I've taking a liking to having a mallet so much I might just be stubborn and stick with it. Appreciate the idea, and if I do decide to go with something different, I'll give you credit for changing my mind. lol.
heres with the updated barrel *right side" and with the provisions logo that psyke provided for me. I might just add a white bg to the logo so it doesn't blend as much in the red version. also, the chipped metal paint stuff on the end of the barrel is just something I'm messing with, not sure if I'll stick with it or try a different approach.
1 provisions label, doesn't matter where it is to me tbh (In viewpoint I feel it could detract attention from the rest of the weapon if it's seen).
Get rid of those semen stains at the end, I know you're excited about how cool your weapon looks and all.
EDIT: Remember that you should stop at some point, a hair-dresser that continuously cuts and cuts hair to improve it will eventually have no hair to work with, or leave with a very bad haircut.
EDIT2: If you really want something on the end of the barrel, you could put a single, small, triangular 'chip' in it.
Yeah I agree that while some discoloration might give the barrel some character, it doesn't look quite right the way it is.
Oh also, have you considered doing something to perhaps make it look like a stock was somehow attached to the pistol-grip shotgun? I dunno if that's your bag but I think it could have some potential.

I hope I can model like that soon.

It would be a good idea to make it big enough to look like it weights almost the same as the current wrench.

and heres the bb scaled down a tad. this is all I can budge on it before it starts to look like a small sissy mallet for non-texans. :P
Keep the team colours, brighten the barrel a bit (like sun exposure) so the light/dark isn't so contrasting.
I mean, it still looks big and cool, but it doesn't look Acme big :O
Not much you can do 'bout that though.
what?
i offered to make a higher resolution image of the "provisions" logo for his texture of the gun
where the fuck did you pull stats from?
unless you qouted the wrong guy?
