I'd go with either team coloured or brown; green only barely features in TF2's palette and not in the Heavy's at all. When you do such colour studies, be sure to compare it to an overall picture of the Heavy, because you can't pick colours without context.

Whoops, forgot to add in a pic of the Heavy. I'll update that right away.
The only problem I have with changing the color of the star is that it would no longer be a CCP hat (they're known as 'Red Army' caps for a reason)... I'd rather keep the star red and tint the hat towards red or blue, if possible (like in '5' and '6'). However, if people feel really strongly about it, I can be swayed.
Also, a yellow star makes him look like he's trying to be the Sherrif. :-)

Really, just keep it green with a red star for both teams and send in the red star with slight team colored hats as an extra if Valve decides they want that.
What about doing number 6, only with a more neutral shade of brown like Ritz's concept? You can have a team neutral hat that doesn't look out of place color-wise.
To green, or not to green... that is the question...

Or to take arms against a sea of lost premises,

will it blend? that is the question...
by this I mean why not have a patch of green, it would give it some contrast and you could make it look like the heavy stiched it up, just a suggestion.
or maybe a gray-green color (if that isn't too abstract for TF2)
The problem here is trying to put red (a team based color) as a neutral color.
So except if you put your hat teamcolor based (AKA having a red star for red and a blue star for blu) then you'll have to color the star to a true neutral color (yellow, grey white, beige, etc)
Ok so, so far I'm leaning towards making the base color of the hat team-colored (5,6,7, and 8...)and leaving the star red... so now it's just a matter of determining whether people like 5 and 6 better, or 7 and 8.
Ok, so I'm back to working on concepts for the Batterin' Bolshevik, and I've made a quick mock-up for the right hand. I added a green shader to the straps, just to make them easier to see. I'm considering making the straps leather with visible buckles, but I'm wondering if I should just make one large, thick strap for the arm, or go with 2 thinner straps, as seen in this pic. Anyhow, I'm working on a similar mock-up for the left hand, so stay tuned.
I am NOT making Heavy parachute pants. NO. That will NOT happen.
...ok, maybe. :-)
That is awesome.
Thanks!
Anyhow, I've got a mock-up ready for what I had in mind for the left hand... keep in mind that it is simply a preliminary mock-up.
As for the bit of metal that connects the hand grip to the sickles, I'm thinking it could be either just a piece of scrap metal, or some miscellaneous tool or item that Heavy might have found lying around. The idea is that it is supposed to look very crudely cobbled together, so the screws going through the metal brackets should look like they're splitting/damaging the wooden handle of the sickle (having been forced through by Heavy), and any metal parts can look as though they have been bent into place.
Anyhow, I also snapped a quick screenshot of both hands together...
...Now tell me you wouldn't feel pretty bad-ass running around with something like THAT strapped to your hands!
I am sure this was the first time he posted the left fist.
I recall the creator saying that the handle was needed so the blade wouldn't slide (realisticly)

I'd suggest swapping the weapons around, purely because the heavy does the crit uppercut with his right hand, and it'd look pretty painful with the sickle.
The way the sickles are, the hammer would be more effective for the critical (more weight behind it) the sickles pointed end is at an angle where it wouldn't pierce.

Agreed... the placement of a sickle's sharpened blade actually makes this a rather ineffective weapon as is, but it looks like Heavy, in his patriotic enthusiasm, ignored this fact... However, I was thinking that I could always make it look like Heavy had the outside of the blade roughly sharpened as well... the inside edge would be neat and professional-looking, while the outer blade would be jagged and amateurishly done.
Although, it would be awesome if either fist could uppercut. :-)
Ok, so I've been kind of stuck for a 3rd item for a while now... I've been trying think of either a minigun replacement or a shotgun replacement (there's so many sandvich replacements, I wanted to try to do something different). So far, I have one item from Communist China (the hat), and one from Communist Russia (the hammer and sickle), so I thought I should make the 3rd item from a different communist country as well. So far, the only idea I've had would be to do an item relating to Cuba, and naturally, the first item from Cuba that comes to mind is cigars. Now, I COULD do that as a misc item, but I thought I might take it a step further...
Now, bear with me here, as this idea might sound kind of silly... what if I made a shotgun or a minigun that fired Cuban cigars? The design could incorporate a humidor as an ammo casing and metal cigar cases as a shell. For game mechanics, perhaps a vision-obscuring effect could afflict the victim (kind of like the Smoker from L4D)? I'm leaning towards this being a shotgun replacement.
Personally though, I'd love to see a shotgun replacement for the Heavy. I've only seen one for him so far, and I haven't seen that thread update in ages.

I agree with you, personally... I just wanted to see what everyone else thought before I finalize this hat.
Anyhow, one thing I forgot to mention folks... feel free to mix 'n match these options if you like (i.e., darker hat with greenish-blu, etc.).

The yellow is fine Thrillho.
Green with red star is the whole concept.
Cool little model btw, fits the heavies huge head nicely (in an ironic sort of way).

having red color on blu team = no.
It's just a tiny star.
Oh, I rofl'd heartily...:)

....Aroused? *raises eyebrow*
Looks good, and I agree with the cobbled together look.
hmmm
...To what?
looks VERY similar. same design and everything.
The hand, or the weapon attached to it?
Because it's Heavy's hand model, taken straight from the game.
If you're talking about the weapon, though, I've never seen it anywhere else.
I recall the creator saying that the handle was needed so the blade wouldn't slide (realisticly)
Look further back in the posts. That was me.
kiddin'

Heh, I know you're kidding, but if I remember correctly (haven't seen Predator in many years), weren't Predator's blades all straight and barbed?
Then again, sometimes Heavy can be one UGLY motherf---

Does anyone think that would be TOO crazy?
