love it fatcap.
crazyfool great start.
About the rock man i agree and the feet were bugging me too they need more
work. This started out by placing platonics along the bones of a existing rig
so the feet have 2 rround shapes but there was no bone in the heel. Going to adjust that.
If i were to give it a unrealistic stance id add some zorbing and blue
particles to the individual stones
Lonewolf your current one is better even though it looks like a gunshop at first glance.
Never been a fan of machine click thing websites.
Scoobydoofus looks really great! If the hair of the head would match the beard
a little better sculptwise it would be perfect.
You kinda look like Tom Yorke without a hanging eyelid ha
kite: oh man you are killing me with this stuff, please continue with this bunch of characters. dont you ever listen to your internal censor if it makes you want to make changes to that mechanic character.
fatcap: really inspiring stuff, crisp and vivid.
as for me, please do not be alarmed this is a serious THREE-DEE MODEL for the first time in... what, 5-6 years? following along with racer445's AK74SU tut and he picked a great gun to learn/practice certain sub-d techniques. i modeled the whole trunnion and trigger guard and everything. taking my time and maybe overdetailing but i'm getting there, having a blast
Lonewolf / almighty_gir: Yep, it's an RG 548 in natural ash with an edge bridge. I've had it for about 8 years now.
CJE: Render settings are super simple, it's Mental Ray in Maya 2011 with Final Gather and Ambient Occlusion enabled, 1.5x secondary bounce weight on the FG with 4 diffuse bounces, a single Area light casting shadows, light blue environment setting on the camera. The entire scene is in a render layer with a Blinn material override (easy way to get same material on everything without losing my default material assignments for other renders).
Finishing up this guy - been in the works for what seems like a looooong time now!
I had to change the old logo he had on his leather vest, to this new one, after I got contacted by a reprasentative of the Hells Angels. It seems they are quite protective of their logo and pretty litigious about that sort of stuff so I had no choice but to design, remodel, re-texture etc a new logo which was a bit of a set back!
Not sure why it looks blurry on here or if the brightness/ contrast looks OK - I am in the middle of trying to calibrate my two monitors at home and not sure if they are still off?
i'd desaturate the skin on the arms, looks abit too "new" doesnt fit the age of the face, maybe abit more yellow and pink, less red
other than that, very impressive work, u have some good stuff in your site
Lonewolf:I think the best advice I was ever given re: portfolios is to always assume the laziest angriest, most generally annoyed person in the world is looking at your portfolio. A lot of people who end up on portfolio duty are not happy to be doing it and will take any opportunity to pass over a site if it annoys them. You always want only a single click to get to the art, which your current site does very well (together with informative, tantalizing thumbs).
Not to say your work is in much danger of being passed over (kudos especially on the KZ2, that's a star weapon model as ever I've seen) but I'd retain the current configuration. Your new one looks like it's another click or two to the actual art.
edit: the one thing I would change would be to remove the "My Idol" button. Not that it's unseemly or anything, but it's kind of a baffling place to find such a link that is too close to your actual work. If I'm looking at your portfolio I want it to be strictly business, the Satriani link doesn't belong.
Ohh, I see what you mean. Well, so long as it's clear that it's opening up a gallery--on your original gallery it took me a second to realize that clicking on each picture actually meant a couple of images per and not just the single image.
So yes in that case I support the new design, but to help hint heavily that you are in fact opening up a lightbox gallery and not just a single image, I would label each of your categories with "10 images" or the like.
On balance however the issue with the new layout is the inability to open up on a per-thumbnail basis. So I'm still overall leaning on the origingal layout, personally.
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many triangles+ngons, looks cool though.
yes, i can probably take it down in the triangle count, but i have no ngons, and it wouldnt matter if it was any there either.
Edit: took it down to 1568 tris.
Lonewolf: I think the site you have now is great and doesn't need any changes to its format. It's simple, sleek, and to the point. That's not to say the new site wouldn't be as good or better, but I just don't think you need it honestly.
The My Idol button should go though. I clicked that thinking it was going to be a list of artists you follow or something.
I think having everything displayed now is better than clicking one random image and all the Guns are shown. Someone might not want to look at all the guns and might want to one specific one first. The thumbnail should hint them what they are going to view. If you bunch them all into one thumbnail there's no hint anymore and people don't want to spend time playing, "find the cool shit". Your stuff is cool for the most part so for you it probably wouldn't matter, but just saying.
I can recognize the cgtextures.com source too easily.
And this is important exactly why? I mean even if there is a few dozen artists from around the globe, who can recognize its source, doesn't really mean players who will be playing whatever game its made for, would care. Unless its bad, or cgtextures licence require artists to produce completely unrecognizable final textures. Which is, as far as I can remember, not true. Oh, and btw I can't recognize it, even tho I spent quite some time on that site
Yeah, as long as it looks convincing I don't see what's the problem. IMHO you could adapt the photo to fit your piece a little better, maybe get a better understanding of where mold would surface on a piece like this, right now it feels a little random.

not really, I think it's pretty ok in the tris department.
