top work going on in this thread, that's a rare and beautiful use of poultry funky bunnies
thanks for nice feedback everyone
caseyjones- thanks casey, yeah polycount for me this time!
here is tunkini the warwhale in his custom tooled speedo power armour, got a bit of a bennett from commando going on with the mesh vest, wonder if he could stand a moustache, have about 20 polys left
was totally down on this brief at first because of all the restrictions but it's been a really good way of gearing up for the war.
Kite & Funky Bunny: Your entries are both amazing!
I love the fact you guys are striving to tell an elaborate story through just the character design (rather than go cheese whiz crazy with packing in as much detail on as you can). Feels like every decision you made in your designs have purpose (rather than masturbating a bunch of detail).
A VERY important thing you guys are doing, is creating a character that people who aren't artists can enjoy.
GoSsS, Porkpie Samurai, Snefer, Rory_M, Solar, rooster, Wicked-J, coldkodiak: Cheers guys, thanks for all the encouragement! So many awesome models in this thread!
Snefer: I did a test-bake during lunch today with bobo's unwrap, I think it turned out good with most shapes intact:
I still have to add some asymmetry to the model, going to use my precious 500 for that.
Here is my first post, its just a rough sketch of my Gen with no color. the team logo will go over his eye and one on his chest. also on his armor he will have other team logos that will be crossed out.
@Demon Princess: I really like your work in progress pictures so far. I see you're putting a lot of effort in the texture. I think you did a great job on the gravestone teeth. Your model looks fresh and clean as always.
@Skiffy: I love your undead battle hog. That has to be the most evil polyblob ever. Those 3D teeth are a very cool feature. It looks like a critter now.
Hadn't said it before, but all these entries are awesome and very inspiring. Glad i went with Polycount on this one. Anyway, an update: made the eyes and detailed the beak a little. Now it just looks evil, though I'll have to move the monocle. Also make two planes for an opacity map. gonna give him some bushy eyebrows, so he'll look evil-er.
@Kite: Your war general reminds me a lot of Quake 2. The colors and design really fit with the theme of the game. I still love the look of old fashioned hand painted textures, so that's a good thing.
Just some mini-updates as I need to stay motivated. Having a good run at the moment . Here's a screen from ZBrush and a bake test in Maya. Fixed the monocle and made the eyebrows, but I'm probably going to change them.
Kamui, neither did i know I was going to sculpt a bird. It came to me while doodling.
Some really great sculpting in this thread. Put my composition together. Still not done tweaking and open to suggestions. Having a blast with a different style for me. Hope you like the direction I took.
Hey Snefer that looks awesome!!! Now.... can I borrow your computer? :P
Did another bake/test and it's still going OK, the only real problem is the back of the neck/tube.
^this is a max-viewport screenshot of the lowpoly with the normal map and some basic lighting.
There's only 4 days left, this is my plan:
1: Make him more general-like(OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS!!!HALP!)
2: Subdivide the sculpt one last time and sculpt some details
3: Bake and make some basic normal/spec/diffuse maps
4: Refine spec/diffuse maps and make a final image
Rooster - Awesome bake!
Kite - One of my favorite entry so far.
kawkkie - Nice sculpt!
Snefer - Superb character, feels very fresh. I like the direction you are taking on this.
Wow some really great stuff here. I don't have much time so I can't comment on as many as I like but snefer and rooster those are looking good.
I'm entering a little late so I'm just going to do straight diffuse. Here is my concept and my model. I have almost 200 tris left so I'll add some more stuff. Yeah I forgot the teeth I realized that now.
I didn't realize we didn't have much time left, I'll try to finish this guy in time!
The horn is a seperate object that meets up with the basemesh. Tomorrow, I'd better figure out what my treeman is wearing, and up the detail level, then onwards to texture world.

Hehe!...Well it took a while but i think he's water tight now. It took a while to get all the sticky shite off my hands.
I did go a bit mental with the clay tubes though. :P
Anyway, here is final, or close to final sculpt.

getting there anyway
edit:
irreal, looks nice but- is that the original base mesh? the horn part for example looks smooth in your mesh
Some of the work on display here is amazing. Makes me want to work harder and get better.
