done with the weapons, unless i decide to add a folding crossbow hanging from his belt, which can still happen
now left is the cloak/hood part, should be done soon

If you zoom out a bit and take a look at his overall silhouette... he has a really odd shape to him. He's got a very round mid-section. It makes him look like an egg with limbs. Obviously he's wearing that thick belt around his waist which contributes to his shape. But should that really stop you from getting something more aesthetically pleasing?
You could probably mess around with making his clothing a little more loose and allow them to have more shape as opposed to being cylindrical. His sleeve could billow out at the elbow... same for his pants. They could billow at the knees.
You could probably even take his coat and play around with the width and length of the front and rear flaps.
His head looks long. I would check the proportions on that. And, actually, if you pay close attention to the are behind the ears... the hair doesn't grow into the attachment of the ear into the head. There's actually quite a bit of skin there. Grab ref.
His hands need more work. Grab some reference and really take a look at the structure of the hand. Yours are way too soft. And also, don't skimp out on the hand details. Seriously. You have all this elaborate pattern work everywhere on him... but then you crap ou on the hands. It's like the hands have a seperate low rez texture that you didn't bother with.

I showed this around at work, it's really impressive. Here's some things I heard which I agreed with (which is why I am replying, ha!)
He looks like a "gentlemens assassin"
A pistol would really help sell the era he's in
Those hands...
The sword on his back seems to date him farther back than the era he's suppose to be in
What if his hand dagger mechanism was updated to make it a projectile device that has to be reloaded. Like a mini cross bow mechanism for launching little daggers.
"Do I want to use my last projectile to kill this guy, or save it for close-up assassinations?"
For the pistol, I think an ankle/boot pistol would be great. Something small but noticeable so it doesn't overtake his design yet suggests the era at which he's suppose to be in. I also thought the update to the mechanism would be a great idea but you're so far along with it that it may be something put on the back burner.
Overall, I fucking love it. I really REALLY enjoy this character and where you've gone with him.
No need for pistols at all, kills the style of the character. A more modern sword or knife, though -- a rapier or dagger that shows more modern construction, would sell the era perfectly without detracting from the concept.
Also, soul is right about his silhouette. I get what you were going for, this makes sense with the clothing, but the original Altiar had a bit of a superhero stylization to the way his cloak fit. Shaping up the torso a bit would do wonders.
looks awesome vahl, I only really have one 'complaint'?. maybe it's the angle, but the sword doesn't look like it can be pulled out of the sheath due to the shape of the sword. as I said though, might just be the viewing angle. Great work!

I'm talking more something along the lines of a NARC pistol that can be concealed in your fist. REALLY tiny. Just something to suggest that era as only swords are a bit off setting IMO.
working on my texturing skills, in need of a lot of work. so far 1024 map with lots of space for boots, hands, face, and accessories. Only a diffuse so far and bump map
Techno skull.. one face in progress for a ut3 pack, remaking/updating "The Corrupt". This one is headed for the MSU contest once the rest of it is done.
Re-learning hardsurface sub-d workflow. So far so good.
more skin tone practice. may stick it on a 3d model when i get time.
haven't done this kind of stuff for about 3 years, amazing how your skills are lost so easily
this one was done in pshop6 with airbrush and smudge tool
awesome, tacit
not sure I'm totally convinced on some of the forms up front. They mostly seem to be of about the same depth, I think you could push them a bit more
