Alright bitches, here's a thread for everyone's Blizzard contest art. Or start your own if you want to feel special. DO IT.

Here's my take on a Protoss. Been a long time since I drew anything with an actual pencil, so its pretty sloppy. And then I went and got 5 minutes of photoshop all over it.

Oh Yea!! forgot about this contest. My chances are prob. low but maybe I can pull something nice enough that can help me get a job lol. I was thinking of trying either low or high poly environment i doubt i can get both done..unless they were the same scene (but I dont think that is allowed) Is a concept required? I dont remember what I read. Look forward to seeing what you peeps can pull off.

I was thinking of entering this contest as well, I had another project in mind but could put it on hold for this. Th eonly problem is that my knowledge of Blizzard stuff is kind of low :P

I agree, if you don't win with blizzard you have a shot at winning in the polycount contest!

Nice start Sectuars, but from what I remember, the protoss were significantly taller and more slender.

with a bigger boat that you should be able to access (well in theory if it was a real map) and maybe some kinda of open area/market ifront of the houses.

gonna make a better scetch or mockup this weekend and we see how it goes

The only reason I didn't wait for it to be a contest here, is that I wasn't sure people would want the contest forum tied up for two months. especially those in the wrong countries.

How do you guys know what characters to do?and the specs for each character?
I have been to Blizzard ssite and although they give you an idea of what the categories are (ie 2d,3d etc) it reveals little else.It just says that details will be announced on 31 july

Jerome, i doubt there will be a world of starcraft, as at the same time the idea wouldn't surprise me. Somewhere in the back of my mind I convince myself I've read that Blizzard will make another mmo of one other of their franchises (Diablo?). The only thing I've seen covering your question was the announcement by gamespot, which obviously was an april-fools joke. :P

I just figured while I start on this new project, that I'll also go ahead and make myself a new base mesh for the future.

Hey guys this is my first post here, and i am also going to work on a model for the blizzard contest. I'm doing one of the ancient of lore concepts from the warcraft art book. I'll post a image or something tomorrow after i work on it a bit longer.

I'm playing with idea's, I dont want to recreate an existing Blizzard creation, maybe redefine the style and create something fresh??


so yeah, this is a paint over in progress on one of several sketches I did last week. Not exactly diablo, but like I said, fantasy needs a new direction.

Check out the '7 soldiers of victory' 1st graphic novel spacemonkey. Theres a great new direction taken for the camelot knights, a good example of a reimagining of traditional fantasy characters.

I had this grand idea to recreate some fight scene (2-3 characters), in more of a hardcore style, but still 2d textures. May still go ahead with it, if i have time.... which is long for 'not going to happen.'

While you'll no doubt to a superb job with that piece DH, one has to wonder whether you'd be better to do something a little more striking and original. After all - every kid with a pirate version of Max and Photoshop is going to model up his world of Warcraft character. In a competition that will undoubtedly recieve thousands of entires, you might want to think about something that'll really stand out.

I started on the armor the other night, nevermind the skull and the face the looks like the "scream" mask, zbrush will take care of their detail.


Jackablade, for some reason I've got feeling you'll see more 2d submissions from WoW fans. Probably of their character drawn with an anime style too, haha.

damn, I have narrowed down that I am not doing Diablo style, but how to choose between Starcraft and Warcraft, on top of that what kind of class or unit, soo many to choose :S How do you guys make these kind of decisions?

No offense Doomed but, what the hell is that? I know it is a character of some sort but I can't make out what it is. I see no head, I don't know if I am looking at the back or the front, I just can't make it out.

none taken, it's one of the ancients of lore. In the warcraft art book that came with warcraft three it has a few pictures these tree type eldars. They are very trunky and alot of the detail i'm going to be doing will be in the textures. It's going to be very low poly so it can run in a game engine of some sort. I'd imagine it will have some of the same poly counts as a WOW creature. It will start to come togeather when i get started on the texturing. uhh i'll try and scan my drawing and post it.
