Very nice stuff, Mansir. Have you ever seen any sketches by Mark Gibbons? He used to illustrate Games Workshop's army books... I always loved his pencil work, and yours reminds me a lot of his work.
well this is fairly straight forward playing with everyone's favorite, the painter 6 style "simple water" brush, that for some reason has a wonky default setting in painter 9, but is otherise the same...
KP and i had some fun, "demon princess" was the only prompt... this was about half an hour. KP totally faked me out into thinking he was going to bust out some totally unorthodox interpretation of a demon, otherwise i probably would have drawn more standard demon. but as you can see from his post, it was all just a big fake-out
little too much photoshop post... otherwise completely done in painter. probably should come back to it
Theres a little bit of a story that goes into this next one. There is a guy on another forum I frequently go to who has started posting some nice, pretty original (in execution mostly) work. However when people asked him some questions about how he worked, or what he thought about his own work he just gave cyrptic single line answers, or none at all. This "too cool for school" attitude totally cheeses me off, so I set about making this piece to post, and originally was going to call it "Too goth for my own good" ...but then cooler heads prevailed and I realized that would just be stupid of me....but I ended up liking the end result...though it is kind of a rip of that guys style, since it was intented to poke fun at him. So I'll take the cowards route and post it here, called Barcode Goth..the message is still kinda the same though.
cthogua: well i looked up his site and though i don't know what kind of antics he might indulge in while posting, his work does in fact stand on its own. you go through the motions, yes, but the relatively unfocused nature of your mock tribute just goes to underscore how much he's able to accomplish with such a restricted palette. again, the guy might be a real prick, but his work is genuinely interesting.
"The man is nothing; the work is everything," to quote Gustav Floberg.
agreed Gauss, as I said I thought he work was rather interesting, and your right, I misspoke about his work not standing on its own, since despite being put off by his online personality I still thought he work was good. The "mock tribute" started as that and then as work related render-watching boredom set in it became more of a play around using his style plus some graphic stuff. I didn't post it over at CA cause he really doesn't seem like he would care much for people "aping" his style...not that I did a good job of that really even...but it bore enough resemblance. Also my original reason for making it was kinda childish, but I liked the end result and wanted to see what other people thought of it, so I wasn't sure what to do with it for a while. So I dumped it in my sketch post here...as I said in the original post, the cowards route.
I still think his attitude is crap though
I do like your piece quite a bit...the figures creeping up out of the fog/smoke/miasma are a really nice touch. It would be cool to see the trail they left as they move through it. The bottom of the mount seems to sit on top of the fog rather than receed into it though...if that was your intention.
not sure where to go with this one. I haven't drawn sexy girls for a long time, so trying to get a bit of practice in... should have used reference to get the body right but all the (porn) postures on my HDD are un-inspiring
Been trying to work on a mechanical-myth creatures theme:
The last one I tried to paint instead of just sketching.. there a lot of stuff I flubbed up (light sources, etc.) so I guess I'll call it a learning to paint experience..
hey roach neat drawings but you should work on your hair and lips. The way you're drawing the lips (solid shadowed upper lip) makes the men look like women, and the effeminite hair isn't helping you much either. Crits crits crits, yummy yum yum
AWESOME work everybody, i hold this thread close to my heart dearly
I put a post on the zcultfm comic book forums saying I would like to make a comic book but I needed a writer, and this nice guy emailed me with a pretty awesome idea for a Detective story in the near future... here is the main character concept i drew up last night, yeah the anatomy is all fuxored and it aint perfect but I'm tryin'. Should be a good drawing exercise.
French and Dutch love! Reallying liking your sub Vahl, but fix that box like I said on msn! Make it something sexy like a bald eagle or cover it in stars and stripes.
And I think I see some Squatted/pestibug stuff up higher, I'm realling digging the chick in heels with the giant sleeve.
so after 9 yrs out of drawing, i decided to start sketching again, drew thes recently... I definitely need to practice line work and what not again, feel free to advise

Here's some rather recent stuff.
blah.... I think I'm going to cry, I can't come up with anything good. Browsing conceptart.org makes me feel depressed.

the second one is real nice.. i wish you worked on it more
little too much photoshop post... otherwise completely done in painter. probably should come back to it

learning how to "paint" in photoshop (more fine art type stuff, not production art)
tried to use what was shown by the ubi/steambot team at the concept art workshop this weekend
first real try at painting a scene tho...so no fancy angle, pers, etc, tried to keep it simple...
