Ohsomogilicious...that kind of sounds like Ozymandias. And your little desert scene there definitely brings that poem to mind.
I met a traveler from an antique land,
Who said two vast and trunkless legs of stone,
Stand in the desert, near them on the sand,
Half-sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read,
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear,
My name is Ozymandias, king of kings,
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.
Nothing beside remains, round the decay,
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.
It looks very good so far. I would like to see some example of character sculpture, though. A statue missing its head, or a weathered torso.
very nice jaco! really love the trasition between the biceps and the shoulder/chest muscles! great stuff! one crit: i think the legs don't flow over into the stommack/belly smooth enaugh, i think you overdid those bones there. but other than that it's great!
SDK for the base mesh??? :P
Thanks Japhir, I haven't spent too much time on that area so it's looking a bit rough.
What do you need this for if you already have arsh's perfectly good basemesh?
i am currently working on a head (just to take a small break on my other streetguy project textures) an i was trying to get a good polygonflow and this one seemed very good so that's why, but your right and i think images are already helping enough.
ow and i also just discoverd that the hand looks twisted in a weird way... or it is just that the bone on which the pinky grows later on :P sticks out too much.
keep it up!
Hands are a bit of a mess Jaco, palm is hugely thick and the fingers are way off the right shape. Doesn't look like you've sculpted there yet, though, so I'm sure you'll sort that out. Looks cool everywhere else.
Looks good, but I'd add some brackets to those supports. For example, the main pipe typically has a square block that the front hoop bolts to. So, there's usually a square chunk of metal on the back side that matches the one on the front.
You should also add bolts to your backboard texture to show where the two side braces are secured on the front side.
Thanks for the crits about the hands SupRore and Japhir, I'll fix it soon, I haven't really sculpted in that area yet as you said. I should fix the ugliness on the basemesh though...
Some photoshop work. Just bored and started making a picture beased off a screenshot I took in WOW. Trying to get better at painting in PS. I'm really proud of the Horns and hair tentacles, but the hair and some facial properties need more work.
hey guys, i have some new drawing pens/fine liners and i experimented a bit with those. (also was inspired by cyi's thread)
gonna work on it a bit in photoshop for now. (i only desururated it and moved the small thumbnaily bits a bit, no photoshopping other than that yet)
the bump on the panel's black paint is inverted, the paint looks inset while it should look like it's over the white paint, the bump is too strong too, paint is thin, yours looks 3 cm thick
that clay sculpture ownz, i was just wondering where you get down with the life modelling classes? i'm living in sf, i'd be interested in going if it's an open thing...thx!
Yeah... Vahl already pointed out the bumping. The only other suggestion would be to lower the pole now. Like I mentioned earlier, the hoop bolts onto the plate on the pole. Right now, your pole meets in the middle of the backboard, yet the hoop is on the bottom. The hoop is right, but the pole isn't.
Oz: I wouldn't mind seeing a version with either no normal map or a very minimal normal map. Right now the paint looks to be really thick, which doesn't happen unless there's years and years of paint layered on itself.
yeah it is thick, but it is for the source engine so it may not even be visible in there, so i'll have to wait and see how it looks in-game. Source always lowers the bump on normal maps (what i have experienced).
Ok started working on this, its very wip because I dont really know where to go with this. The metal holders dont really have a texture yet, its just red metal overlay atm. Will work on that when my normal is fixed.

Nice work so far. Especially the jaw.
How did you model that? Did you use box modeling or modeling from plane?
I always use plane for modeling a head (starting from the tip of the nose) but I´m having trouble to make a good "joint" between frontal and side-view.
oh i had fun with this one, i was sitting in the backyard, and i saw birdies
i just had to capture one, though it took some time before i could get close to them, and everytime i took a pic, the camera said "click" and the birdies flew away :P
i did manage to capture a couple, cant wait to go to france this summer and capture alot more nature things.

Really cool, how you get those sharp lines? It is a lot of pinching or just working with a very high subdivision?
@ Daz
Cool, mudboxing in real . Looks like a lot of work.

Good texture and model.
Is that an emissive texture in it?
