Hello everyone, welcome to the Bi-Weekly Substance Challenge.
Like the previous challenge that was ran by Tejay, this is going to be running everyone 2 weeks to give people a little longer to work on the materials.
How it works- Every 2 weeks a new reference will be shared to be recreated, you are also encouraged to find your own reference, as long as it still fits the topic for that bi-weekly substance, for example if we share a mud reference, you can gather you own mud reference.
- You can be creative with the reference and make it look either realistic, stylized or hand-painted, it is up to you.
Guidelines- Try and give constructive criticism, giving and receiving this should help each of us artist grow.
- This is a Substance Challenge, so stick with that software.
- You can post Wip's and finished materials here.
- Don't share work you've done in the pass, if you done a material before, try it again don't try pass old work off as something you did for this.
- Final material renders to be rendered in a real-time engine (Marmoset, UE4, Unity, Cryengine, Stingray, IRay is also accepted).
- This is a learning experience for all, don't be afraid to ask questions.
- Learn all that you can and do share what you also learn.
- Please be respectful to each and everyone.

I'm new to Substance Designer, so i've decided to stick with the topic original reference.
Also, can you point me on some tutorial about exporting from substance to marmoset? I can't set my height map right, so bricks are just flat on sides of the cube, however in Designer they have volume.
I um actually did this a couple of days ago but forgot to post it? That's me, great first impression! Anyway great initiative and I'll try to be more active on the next one
Tons of great work came from this, well done to everyone.
CHALLENGE 2 STARTS! Check the first post on this thread (or the top of each page) to see the information for this next challenge.
Challenge 2 = Marble!
Good luck and look forward to seeing how everyone's turns out.
*Side note, I'll be streaming the start of my development on Friday*
Additionally Substance Designer 6 is out now! Get the trail version or upgrade now.
If anyone is having trouble getting started, I really suggest that you download Wes McDermontt's Environment Toolkit node from Substance Share and test around with it.

This bricks from my discord messege from 02/01/2017. Not exactly finished but I think it's important to send anyway.
I'll be using this material as a base for the marble tiles/patterns that I'll be starting on tomorrow.
here is my start havnt touched the roughness yet and really just base colours but this is where im going.
Here is my first draft. What do you think, is that already too noisy?
@Merlynn nice start, haven't seen any marble with that much color overlay, mainly I'd like to see harsher cutoff points in the color fields like the first of the references, hope that makes sense!
Thought of creating some gold inlaid marble and here's today's attempt, would really love some C&C on this!
@Spookinik definitely a good start
@Gruckel something a bit different I like it maybe make your gold lines a bit thinner and some more colour variation looking good though
I might be going off topic, but been messing about with the new curve node to get some big displacement shapes, got a little more work to do before moving to the finer detail and then the marble effect.
@Kazperstan that's a nice generator, pure PP math?
Looking great @Soph=) yellow/gold with black is always a hit and @acelmighty13 those fancy living room tiles are shaping up really nicely.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
Added some more roughness especially in tile breaks and started on a decoration, a bit dull so far mayhaps, but that's all I had time for today.
EDIT: Love the tile floor you have. Looks like it would fit well in a lobby for an office building or something.
@Adelphia This is looking really nice. The gold trim is a nice addition also.
@Merlynn I think the veins still need more work. The large white one I think is to big. Try making the veins smaller as currently this marble looks like it wouldn't cover much of a floor and tiling would be pretty obvious.
@Spookinik Looking nice so far, try mess with the depth a little more. With the roughness try and make each tile look different too.
@Gruckel This is a very interesting, I think your roughness could do with more variation.
@Kazperstan That is a pretty cool effect, looking forward to seeing more of this.
@Soph=) Awesome start! Look forward to seeing the deco. Great pun
Looking good
calling this finished unless anyone has anything to suggest
@acealmighty13 Really like the old warn approach.
Here is what I have going on right now:
Nice one !
Here is my take on a black marble, i'm done for now (i'm sure i will rework on it later)
very awesome materials to work on, hard to have a chaotic pattern like this but not looking too much procedural.
Nest step i will try a white one, and a tile between them later.
Any and all feedback welcome!
@_rethunk Looking good. Nice to see some more of that sweet green marble.
I did some small tweeks and added a little surface normal.
really nice marble
@N4meless very slick, love the veins!
@3DKyle very natural looking, the colours are top!
Nice variety of designs going on
Hi folks, looking good so far.
I made my substance with base shapes from crystal graphs, but the screenshot is with tile sample which uses circles for the base.
And two new ones
