Just finished texturing this...this is only the color map
the dark blade is looking really nice, it helps counter a little the size of the weapon and make it more fitable (in my opinion) to the character, great work till now
i would suggest to no go for bones anymore, there is a possible problem with chinese marked and he is not skeleton king anymore, he is wraith king!, you could keep the sillhouete but change the bones to other things, maybe gems or metal pieces..

Figured I'd try my hand at some Dota2 stuff. This is my first attempt at this, so I figure one item shouldn't be complicated. Plus contests are always good motivators!

Otherwise, I initially thought I'd make a weapon for Wraith King, but that seems to be the most popular choice (not that that's a bad thing, just not my thing). Maybe if I get LC's banners done in time I'll try to get my ideas for WK's sword down further.

Seriously, though, that's a rad sword! My only suggestion would be to try to adjust the colors of the physical part of the sword, as the hilt, grip, and broken blade feel a little too similar in color. Maybe slightly darken the center of the blade and give the handle a darker leather wrap? Otherwise I got nothin'.
@Tvidotto My only suggestion for your Relic would be maybe to make it more gold/yellow to match the armor of Wright more. Now it looks a little bit like it would be made out of copper metal. Other than that it looks really bad ass!!

I suggest you change the particle outline to a more particle volume like blade, so it doesnt look like something is supposed to be there, but rather, something really is there.. its just glowing.

I'm not sold on the frontal view, the silhouette breaks from the shape language he has (and the gold in that shape looks a bit like marilyn monroe hair). I like first sideview a lot though!

It is basically similar to what you would get when you use a normal map and bake a cavity map from it within nDo. This cavity map is much more subtle that the one you bake in XNormal. The tool linked by Motenai (link in here and also in Motenai's thread) does a better job since it also generates a very subtle highlight map with it too. The result, imo, is far superior to what I have seen yet.
Regarding the particles. Is it enabled for WK, or did you do a custom one yourself? If the latter, can you explain how you went about doing it?
@darkkyo: I understand your concern. Keep in mind that Sven at late game also swings his uber swords so fast too. Added, she is Legion Commander. She can handle it. Non technical justifications aside, we have other plans to address that.

Ok, I should have read/understood the lore better. I had read about gore/Chinese market but don't feel bones are gory so didn't think that would have even been an issue. (I assumed maybe Valve removed SK because of the SK in Diablo3 being similar)
I also understand the point of the other stylized bones. I just imported his base weapon, looked at it and came up with a concept. And as usual jumped in fast. (thnx for the link btw, I hadn't found that before)
Still, I am wrapping this up. For me it's more about practice and learning than it is to win the competition/get this item in the store. Maybe next month I will pay more attention. I still feel that even though it may have been a bad design choice it still fits the character due to existing items.
I have done very little sculpting before, this is probably the most I have done to date.
That being said, I would love some crits on the actual model/sculpting/concept as all I have heard so far is my concept background lighting is off (not really anything to do with the concept though I will consider that in the future) and the Chinese/bone thing
(I do want to work on the hand guard a tad more still)
I like the second one more. The first one looks too heavy, unbalanced and awkward to hold. Doesn't look like a weapon she would be able to use to attack, but instead just throw on her enemies due to its enormous size, haha.

Question for all people making Gyro hats. Why you no use lens bone for animation!? There is a bone that controls his goggles moving in and out, and a bit of his eyebrow, for the portrait. All the Gyro hats im seeing give this bone no love

I saw that when rigging it, but I don't think that it was needed on those glasses since they're super simple. I would definitely use the bone if I had something fancier though
Does anyone have a clue why the Fez isn't showing up on the Workshop? You can access it through a direct link, but it doesn't show up on the most recent feed. Tried to make it hidden then public but nothing changed.

Yup, revenue sharing is finalized. Also added service providers and all that stuff, but for some reason I can't get it to show up on the feed ):

Yeah, it's apparently fixed now. Probably a bug or hiccup on the servers, since I checked some other items and they also were submitted a couple of hours before appearing on the Most Recent feed.

I get the concern about the Chinese market, but to be fair, WK's stock sword has a spine running up the center of the blade as well...

If/when I do go for WK's sword, I'm thinking something more along the lines of my 4, 5 or 7 designs-- I'm digging the hook-style sword right now!
