Added the blade, and quick retopo using Modo's topo pen. Did a quick paint pass using the concept art for most of it. Getting a rough idea of how it will look and what needs to be changed, as well as what can be added.
So far sitting at 420 tris. Imported into Dota with just a rough color map and a normal map, plus two blank mask files, just to get a rough visual idea of how it might look in game.

the textures looks a little dirty for me, i think you should try some more gradients and less random btush strokes, also some edge definition may help too

As Tvidotto stated, the textures could be worked a bit more.
Also, for some reason I'm getting a techno/mecha feeling in the concept. Looks like the spear is made of scrap metal of a robot or a mecha, something like this, maybe it's just me seeing things. :poly121:
Drawing is not a skill of mine so keep that in mind! but blocking out an idea for a Wraith King sword that keeps things a bit simple. I like the idea of a purposefull large blade for him!
I'll probably refine this a lot once i get it through Max and Zbrush
@Runforest: That's defenatly a original idea, but like Vayne said maybe give it some own animations because it would more be a weapon to stab with than hit someone..

its looking very good looking forward to seeing it finished with the masks
That is the main question!) for now it is only possible to see how does it look with base LC set:
Not bad for me, but possible could be a little thinner in the middle...
It looks very bulky against her figure, have you tried it with a thinner blade. It is a nice shape, if the blades width reduced i really think it will go a lot better with her
Here's my progress (not made much since last time, been hard keeping motivated :P )
Decided to refine the flagpoles to better reflect wings, dropped the two longest flags as they muddied her silhouette. On to finer details and painting next. C&C welcomed as always!
Nice, will it move ok with the scarf bones or are you building it as a solid model
i just stuffed it into the importer and it doesn't look tooooo horrible solid. going to try to get at least a bit of influence from the scarf bones though.

Just saw this competition, so I would really like to throw my hat into the fray. I might be a little late, but hope there's time.
Anyway, it looks like fun. So, for this, I am going with Legion Commander since the character has a lot of possibilities. For starters, I like the default helmet, and the Roman-style hair coming out of the top, which was their custom, and thought that it would look cool having it be her own hair. I messed with several different design ideas, and settled on this one, where her hair comes out from behind and is tied up in metallic bands, which are yet to be added - sort of like a holding basket. It is very rough still - as said: a start from a rough sketch in PS. Edges need sharpened, it all needs shaped and cuts will be added. I really hope I can get away with not rigging the hair. I know nothing about how to do more complicated rigging.
Anyway, lots of interesting designs in this thread, so it'll be fun. As said, this is a rough start, but plan on being done by the weekend.
Looks awesome from the in-game/loadout angles, Ike but from the portrait view it looks like it's hovering above his hairline an inch too high instead of resting on it.
Well I felt that I had to make some changes to the general design to better fit a) the silhouette and b) the final polycount. That meant having to cut down on some of the decorations, which I have hoped to make up for in detail modelling.
ZBrush WIP shown below:
What I have here is a wooden pole with a few metal rings and a wrapped segment. The head of the weapon is covered in metal spikes surrounded by a metallic plating, which in turn shows evidence of battle damage and scuffing.
So, joining in for fun, hopefully I can get something done before this month ends.
Drew something up and mocked it up in 3D:
It's for Wraith King and I really wanted to not make another sword. Might make the side blades a bit larger to show that even more.
Also, I'm not up to date whatsover on what's on the workshop or what's being made, so if it looks suspiciously much like another item, please let me know
@vikk0: There seems to be a little bit of 'distortion' (for lack of a better term) near the end of the sword that isn't in the concept. There are some other differences, but I imagine that they are your own take on how the shapes should be/preparing for easier retopology.
Regardless, it is looking great and I'm sure you guys will go well in the workshop.
@two_larsens: Looking great, a really nice way of getting hair on LC. some of the wear an tear probably wont be visible in the 256 maps though.

Anything you guys need in the mean time, Bounch is a moderator too and can help. Dont steal concepts or try to start a voting mafia while im out! =]

sometimes I ask myself - why don't people design their weapons for hurt? :P
I really liked your! will make some blood
tested the cloth on the flag of my blade, i would like to animate it by hand, it is so much easier

btw, the colors are just a quick test, there is not much into the shaders and colors yet. just some simple gradients and bakes
critiques and clicks are always welcome
legend of gyrocopter
from an old old concept
the hat is giving me a loooooooot of trouble for a glorified cone. also gotta enlarge the google dents a lot, they're pretty much invisible
rly digging this one!
Please give us a vote if you like it thank you!
It would be realy great if there was a possibility to add an inffinite rotation to the spike.
Any Ideas?

oh good i actually finished.
not too many workflow kinks, other than a few silly mask shenanigans.
Wow, so many cool WK Swords here
Working on Magno's concept, still WIP

Might as well post my progress while here. Next up will be scratches and a bit of wear and tear, but not too much. Then mid poly, low, and texture.
This is after wear and tear.
Thanks!
