I am going to do a series of "speed sculpts" to improve on workflow and to learn Zbrush to a greater depth - and as I love the work of Piper Thibodeau ( piperthibodeau.com ) I thought it would be a lot of fun to use some of her daily sketches as a starting point! This model took around 6 hours to get a feel for the workflow and each one will get faster.
As this is a fast sculpt, there is no low poly, only a decimation from Zbrush.
Continuing in the series of speed sculpts to get a more indepth understanding of Zbrush, this is another concept by Piper Thibodeau ( piperthibodeau.com ) As well as being horrendously cute, I liked the idea of translating the flowers on the tail and arms into 3d. Also gave me a chance to play with fibremesh!

Thanks guys! @pmiller001 - thanks! @sprunghunt - thanks, D - hope life is treating you well! @monster - very foxy indeed... @EJtheArtist -thank you, it is so fun making cute things.
Now for something completely different... hard surface practice! Low poly finished, onto the high poly. Based on a beacon concept from Fallout 4.
Have just gotten over a short stint of the flu, but back on the wagon today. Been working on hard surface projects with gusto, and have also pulled this beast out again to tackle… Determined to get this one done!
Finished this a little while ago, just got around to uploading! Hardsurface and Substance Designer practice - concept from Fallout 4. Two versions - this is the clean version from before fallout...
Now for something completely different... more hard surface practice! Beacon concept from Art of Fallout 4; brilliant book with too many interesting things to model...
Finished up the first of 3 little shops - I found an illustration of cute characters with different things to sell, and thought they were very sweet. This hamster sells noodles! Upon completion, I think I will set them all up in their own little square with other assets.
It's been a long time since I updated! I landed a job working in VR and it has been brilliant, learning loads and working very hard - the only downside being that I have very little spare time to work on personal projects! However, I do have a few pieces at different stages of completion. This was quick practice in high poly realistic. I saw this case on an antiques website and thought it was gorgeous. It was also $$$$$ so I decided to model it instead.
Ugh, took two evenings to get this basic bake! First Zbrush crashed every 2 minutes and then Substance Painter decided it didn't like my naming convention even though it was technically correct... had to reexport and reimport everything. But I finally have a base for tidying up tomorrow night and then on to proper texturework.
Finished up the Warcraft inspired piece today. Trying a new technique and enjoying making some hand painted textures - been working PBR at work so it has been nice to paint at home! Found this concept online (artist unknown, would appreciate it if anyone knew who it was) and thought it looked very elvish indeed.
@Pmiller001 - hi hi! I used colour gradients in Photoshop to get the base colours down which I can see being very useful in the future.
I've been so busy that I haven't had time to work on any 3d in a long time which has been very frustrating - but I got a couple of hours tonight to finish the block in of Daryl's bike (and catch up with a couple more eps of season 7!). Onto the high poly next.
This is going to be a Cat Cafe to join the Hamster Noodle Shop I finished a little while ago, Hoping to finish modelling tomorrow inbetween my really large list of tasks!
I'm putting Daryl's bike on hold for a little while as it's a huge project and I want to have a couple of new pieces in the 'folio for the end of the year, and it's just too big to get done that quickly!
I just moved into my very own house! No more renting! I can paint the walls bright colours and finally have a garden all of my own! My dogs are utterly thrilled with the extra space and one of the best moments so far has been sweeping up the leaves while they sundozed in bliss.
Also had time to throw some colours onto the Cat Cafe - hope to finish it up this week
I can’t remember if I posted anything here, but I am taking part in Artstation’s Beneath the Waves challenge and thought it would be an opportune time to get to know Unity better. Very basic stuff so far, but I am absolutely loving Unity’s new post processing stack!!! Starting to feel like I am getting somewhere with it.
(And yes, I know I am once again in the middle of too many projects, I have a problem, help me)
I'm making art until the last possible second, naturally. Playing with lighting and adding a few more assets... I like this stage, when things start coming together, albeit slowly....
Working away on my Artstation competition entry...trying to focus more on blocking in a complete game scene, rather than focusing on finalising individual assets. Trying to keep an ethereal, bright, busy feel to this piece!
Last of the corals blocked in, promise. Felt like it needed a couple more taller species to break up the space so I made those today. Also have the main rock piece in the scene. Tomorrow, definitely tackling the kelp animation and then start texturing finally...
Less thank 2 weeks left and I thought it was a good time to add another terrain texture, for some reason! Still, getting the texturing underway at a good pace now. I am also very excited as I rigged and animated my first asset, and got it into Unity with no issues - it's just the kelp, moving in the current, but I am still very happy about the whole thing! (next; learn how to make videos of the scene...)
I've actually had time to work on personal projects this weekend! High poly done, just working on retopo for this piece - really looking forward to texturing this one!
I am doing the thing again, when I jump from project to project.... but I have about 4 projects scattered from last year and am determined to finish them, albeit a bit randomly. This is a very quick update to the Cat Cafe project I have been working on, on and off... although I made a boo boo and actually started modelling the character that's meant to be in the plant shop instead of the cafe... what can I say, Shibas are cute! He will be standing in for the cat for a little while
Hey Ally, wonderful sketchbook! I love the evolution from page one till now. Also love that you re tackling different subjects (organic, hard surface, environment), the motivitation is all there. It's pretty inspiring
@natm - thanks! I think it's a good idea to get experience in all aspects of modelling - although the motorcycle is a big challenge! It's been pushed to the side a little to explore some other ideas but I am looking forward to coming back to it at somepoint. __________________________________ Ugh, well so much for hoping to finish Ghreg this weekend - so busy! Tons of gardening and cleaning and other stuff, then my 3d program borked out on me! But she does have some scales so that's a start.
Wow, it's been ages since I have posted and even longer since I have finished a piece! That will change, going to try and get all of my unfinished works done by end of year. I'm working full time at a games studio on Call of Duty and its been surprisingly hard to get any personal works done in the evenings recently - but watch this space! As well as the above bits that need to be finished, I also had a craving to start this piece which will be hand painted... any ideas who it is?
I have been so. busy. including a 10 day international trip to catch up with family. I’m still very jetlagged and not quite sure what time it is. However, back home means I have time for some art and doing some hand painting, my favourite! (model isn’t mine, texture only)

Can't wait to see the finished motorcycle
