Hi @Carabiner! I haven't posted the finals yet, but I have it on my list to do very soon!
Sometimes it is fun to just sculpt something frivolous, with no intent other than for the joy of it. I started this in my lunch break back when I was at the studio and have pulled it out to finish up. I love Piper Thibodeau's work and I love bluetongues, so it makes perfect sense. I can't wait to sculpt his little tongue!
I am very aware that I should probably be working on other projects, but this one is a lot of fun and pretty fast. I like using Piper's concepts to learn some new things, and I did pick up a few tricks from this.
Currently playing around in Marmoset to try and capture a cartoony feel, very nearly finished otherwise.
Finished the blue tongue sculpt today, and jumped into another Piper Thibodeau concept because it made me laugh and is seasonally appropriate! Alongside getting in more Designer practice, I want to up my skill in Zbrush too and these concepts are a fun challenge to try and knock out some fast sculpts using new techniques.
I promise I will post the blue tongue soon, along with the other two I finished, but have been avoiding doing portfolio shots for some reason....
It has been a very busy couple of weeks, hitting a work deadline, and I am tired and drained. On saying that, I felt up to a quick 20 minute session on this dude! (very fast Zbrush render)
Finished! Concept by Piper Thibodeau, I just love Blue Tongue Skinks, and also blueberries..... more images on my Artstation - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/D52owo
I've actually finished a few pieces! Just need to put together the screenshots. In the meantime, I am playing with some animal sculpts. I think it would be really fun to try and 3d print animal stuff in the future, just need to actually sit down and research printers. I also want to make lots of different fish models, because fish are fun.
Male Plakat Betta, about 30 minutes of noodling around.
I decided to wrap this one up quickly, rather than continue refining too much or adding color, as it is time to move onto new and better projects! I am still pretty happy I actually finished this piece - I started it ages ago!
A companion piece to Hamster Ramen that I made a while ago, this is based on a concept of three adorable shops (artist unfortunately unknown). I really liked the Siamese cat owner! He looks like he gets exasperated a lot.
Based on the concept by Piper Thibodeau, I love her creatures and this dude made me laugh. Practice in sculpting character and personality, also trying to do more polypainting.
Poor Roger was shelved for a little while due to lack of inspiration on my part, but I dragged him out and gave him some nice heels, and it shouldn't be much longer to completion!
Nearly done with this version of Roger! I am really enjoying sculpting humanoid anatomy and I am thinking this year I will try to improve my human sculpting - for fun, not career, as the idea of trying to keep up with some of these amazing character artists gives me palpitations. It would make it easier to do more sculpts like Roger though!
Well, it has been an interesting week, stuck in the insane Texas freeze.
We were very fortunate and not affected half as badly as a lot have been. I am very, very grateful.
Very tired of the chaos that the weather causes here though!
Yes, I am aware I have a rule not to start any more pieces before I finish my older ones, but due to various internet nonsense, I had to go back to an earlier version of Zbrush and all of my current pieces are made in a newer version so are currently inaccessible. Good excuse for a new piece!
I love Roger. I love his personas. Some in particular are just so great that I have to model them. I made a couple a long time ago and had been contemplating making myself a new base model so I could continue this project, when this persona showed up in an episode and I loved her so much I knew I had to dust off this old project and make a new Roger!
I originally started this piece around March last year just before we went into lockdown so it is bittersweet that I finish it on close to the one year anniversary of all this mess.
I need to decide which persona to do next, there are so many good ones!
I am still arting, just a little slowly at the moment, and feeling like sharing WIPs is a bit pointless - but it's also fun sometimes, so have a very weird WIP.
I have two other projects that also need final images made, but for some reason I find that one of the hardest things to be motivated to do!
I finished up a piece today - images to follow - and decided to start on a new project tonight; an idea I have had bouncing around for a while. I wanted to do another Stalenhag weirdness inspired piece, but with my own twist. I recently found images of an adorable cassette player from the 90's, and now I am going to do really disturbing things to it. The more disturbing the better. Ehehehehe, this one is going to be fun!
It's been a busy week and I am extremely tired, but it seemed an appropriate moment to pull this dude out and continue to add more scales. Both therapeutic and frustrating!
Trying to make sure I carve out some time to work on personal art - can be hard to find the time these days! Still noodling with this piece, it is a complicated one!
Have so many projects in the works, I have set a new rule - no new ones, till the old ones are completed. It's very hard to obey that rule!
Work has been very full on, so the thought of sitting and doing personal art has not been appealing - until today. Dusting off an old project, the Crystal Gems house! I cringe at how old this piece is, but there was a lot of potential to work with, so I stripped the textures and started again. Not a lot to show today, but it will get faster now the project is re-organized!
An older contribution to Orcs Must Die 3 that I forgot to upload. I love doing lighting, really hoping to get the chance to do more soon. Worldbuilding.... is a staple in my career these days!

Getting close to calling it done! I need to make a base of some sort that I can use on future Rogers too
