Started Practicing Hard Surface sculpting, made a rough conceptsculpt for me to model the plating on.
Still much.. much... muuuch to learn.
Looks great, but it looks a bit like rock? I assume you're going for metal, which would have flatter planes instead of the slight bump you've got on your surface.
As I said, it looks great, it just doesn't look like the material I would expect.

Chunkier, stylized armor stuff always tends to have this look to it. (and honestly looks more pleasing to the eye IMO than trying to add rivets and plate lines that damage the flow) He did a good job in my opinion, and I'd honestly would like to see the finished product that could come from it.

Thanks for the critique and comments, I hope i'll be able to hit the sweet spot between convincing metal and clunkyness.
---EDIT--
Take a look at the Mike Jensen hard surface tutorials....it has everything you need to know. And you'll be able to take your design to the next level.
I'm actually using Both Eat3Ds DVD's Hard surface tech from Mike Jensen Great stuff I recommend them to all, It's still the rough concept but i've already added waaaay to much detail, went a bit too bananas I think.
Finally got some time to work on it this weekend. Tweaked the shield and the eyes and a couple of other things. I'm just working on the platform/composition that I want to try and put him in, also gotta rig this bad boy as well.
EmJaeR I love what you've done with this man; the quality is consistant across the board and it's a really cool take on Link. I feel like the shield could have benefited from some form of Celtic take, but it's sick
Hi everyone, I've been working on a personal project for a bit trying to create a nice roman soldier based on a character from HBO's Rome, and really wanted to share it with everyone, hope this is the right place :P Also hope you all like it, I'd love to hear your opinions
Nice progress, the head feels a bit narrow from the front though. Normally I see batman as portrayed with a wider jaw i think, unless this is a younger/youthful bats, in which case never mind.
Worked on this some more today (all day) in the hnagout, need some final texture changes here and there and a pose for his face but it's starting to come together.
Decided to go ahead and put together the rest of the diorama/lighting, then double back and finish off everything else.
Took me a while and I still have some little artifact (UDK + Dynamic shadows = nightmare) but the overall result looks good enough. I'm still wondering if I will project the shadow of the clothes or not...
and in udk finally. ran into some hiccups.. just the overlay diffuse, no detail textures yet. have a water material i'm exploring to put in as well. will have to massage some areas, heightmap has some wonkyness from WM.
Hey, Polycount! Man, this thread is full of crazy marvels of all sorts.

Sculpted a tiling texture in ZBrush. Trying to do some more ZBrush texture examples.
This is looking nice man, can I ask what material that is?
