Here a WIP image of my Metroid fan art. I created the model as part of the Hard Surface Character Modelling Course on cgsociety instructed by Josh Herman.
I am still experimenting with some poses and rendering techniques but wanted to share some of my progress.

I've just started this thing tonight, It's meant to eventually be a statue found in the forest.
It's the first thing I've ever made starting with ZSphere instead of a base mesh, so far I'm not sure I like zspheres but it's probably too early to say just yet, I'm probably using them all wrong
the pictures are so busy, the most eye-catching things are the electric-orange stripes and text, you've got information coming at me from all sides like pop-up ads.
just show the art, man.
*edit* art itself is coming along, though overall seems very high contrast. you've also got a few stones in your wall that look like they're floating on top of the others, as they overlap the basic brick pattern you've established. generally you won't find two stones in the middle of wall shaped like 'L'to accommodate another randomly offset stone.
fightpunch - Been a fan of your concepts for a long time, nice work as usual!
Arno - Loving the metroid character, prime is still one of my fav games.
future-fiction - Love the softness of the image, great work!
I have never posted on WAYWO thread and thought it was about time since I am always looking the amazing work people post in it! I have been working on my second set for dota...
It's not based off of a real gun, but rather, I merged my favourite aspects of many. And while it isn't completely functional, I think it looks pretty believable.
Thanks guys for all the positive feedback on my Metroid image
To answer your question Maio ; yes I am planning to make a 3D print.
I'll post some pictures when it is done.
Actually I think the model shown by Coridium would also make for a nice 3D Print

Cool work overall guys, keep it up!
( Srry for the double post, my connection speed was kinda slow, and suddenly my post appeared double )
ysalex - Love this! The lighting is really nice, the water line on her eyes especially, the skin turned out really well. Goldo_O - this guy has so much character, awesome. imijatov - Really great textures, the fresnel effect on the skin looks really nice! May I ask how you rendered her?
Finally finished something I started aages ago then got really sidetracked.
This is badass man, I love it!
My initial reaction was thinking of Ilia from Twilight Princess, but then again, maybe I've been so engrossed in Zelda stuff that it's deforming my mind...

Pretty happy you finally did post here, your work is amazing
damn those color are hot!
Thanks very much for the comments, I followed this awesome tutorial for the zbrush settings.
Arno - Wow, wish I had your hard surface skills, good job! Coridium - I love this, especially his leafy backpack and logs, great colour pallette and the lighting is also awesome. Kot_Leopold - Really like this, the eyelashes are pretty, I feel like something is a bit off about her gaze though? maybe if her eyes were pointing at something offscreen like she's looking in a different direction, I'm not sure though, I'm terrible at positioning eyes without making characters look crosseyed. sheckee - This character is so cute! [SF]Three9 - Haha I've never seen this character before, but it is a bit uncanny! Especially with the mini deer/goats in that artwork.
Sharing my latest wip. Still some stuff to do, replace beard, fix some kind of cloth / t-shirt so you cover that part of the skin and some texture and material tweaking.
Real-time in CryEngine 3.
wow! any chance you can do a break down on the beard? maybe you can also do some different lighting situations as well
Looks great, but it's pretty monotone in terms of lighting. Maybe you could add in a few gradients in photoshop and play with different colours/blending modes?
gametime: For the skin diffuse and spec I used Mari. Then xNormal to bake normals and occlusions. Beard is fibermesh from Zbrush. Just tried to see if it worked, going to change it so it gets some more variation Thanks a lot!
e-freak: Cheers! The beard as I mentioned above is simple fibermesh, I chose to do it like that instead of using textures on larger planes, since I only will be using this for viewing. Getting something to look like this from fibermesh is really easy. Was also thinking to try a more dramatic lightning when it's nearing completion Thanks!
A small update. First time for me using CryEngine actually. I really like the skin and eye-shader materials!

Yeah I've been using vectors for my Velocity fan art ship and pilot, it does create a nice crisp style- nice use of gradients in there as well
VERY VERY VERY!
Since I have seen this type of thing many times recently, I'm going to go out on a limb and say..
...You guys really have to stop putting photographic backgrounds behind your models...
Reasons...1. They are visually distracting and do nothing to help the viewer to keep focused on the model.
2. Can be used to enhance the color and mood of a model...(see mapping)
Suggested Alternative : Find a nice Complimentary gradient that won't detract from the model, but yet make the thing pop for presentation......
..oh and those little thumbnails are easy to miss in this thread....O.K....'nuff said.
was lookign at my portfolio, have some gaping holes in it..
saw one piece that was looking shoddy so spent a little time tidying it up and updating its texture.
WIN !!
Check out Blender 2.67 if you aren't already using it, has some nice Cell shading features now.

Arno: Awesome, loving It.
Future-fiction: Make a game in that style naow! :poly136:
In love with that.
Please finish this, this is excellent!

Keep up the inspiring work everyone!

Coridium, the set looks dope man. Love the fresh colors and presentation.

BRONSON (Charlie Bronson) .
-Sculpted and rendered in Zbrush. With some Photoshop.
